Description: The Wise Man is where traditional village pub meets rustic gastro cuisine. Situated in the heart of the pretty village of West Stafford, only two miles from Dorchester, Philip and the team ensure a friendly welcome to all and will endeavour to make your visit a memorable one. We are also close to Hardy's Cottage which can be enjoyed on one of the many beautiful walks or popular cycle routes in the area. Our head chef Leigh leads a passionate team who endeavour to create great flavours and experiences. All of our dishes are made in house using the freshest ingredients and where possible we always buy local and in season. To sum up our menu its a collision of world flavours with rural Dorset and Great British Classics.

“A Country Experience”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

My husband and I visited this Inn as a last minute thought. We arrived at the beginning of the service at 7pm so we had the restaurant to ourselves. That said we did not feel uncomfortable or lonely as the staff we attentive and friendly. We both had starters the tempura vegetables and sausage roll, both ver tasty! Both of us opted for the rack of lamb from the specials board, which was fabulously cooked and very tasty. The bed of savoy cabbage was not so good in that it was undercooked and impossible to eat. We were asked if everything was to our satisfaction and explained about the cabbage. The young waitress offered to replace our meals for us which we declined, which resulted in her offering two dishes of cooked vegetables as an alternative. We accepted this alternative which on the whole was very nice. My only comment would be that where I like my vegetables to be "el dente" the carrots and mange tout were just little too 'dente" other than that the atmosphere service and attention to detail was excellent.

“Lovely lunch”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

The pub was packed and as a result we had to wait a while for our food to be served, however the staff advised us of this upfront and prior to us ordering our food. Would recommend and return.

“Best Sunday Roast In Dorset”
Reviewed October 13, 2013

We dined at the Wise Man for sunday lunch and had to leave the positive feedback as it was simply 10 out 10.

My wife had beef and I had roast Lamb it was excellent and the selection of vegetables also very good.

For desert cheese and biscuits with a nice port perfect.
My wife had treacle tart with clotted cream both very well presented and tasted even better.

with the good selection of beer and wine we will be back soon.

Well done to the staff and keep the good work up.

Reviewed October 13, 2013

My wife and I have had several meals here, the latest being last Thursday. Staff excellent, attentive but not fawning, atmosphere superb, lovely "local" feel. The food excellent as food all sourced locally. . Cannot recommend enough.
