“Quaint and friendly”

We were heading over for a family funeral and as it was fairly short notice, we were unsure where to book. One of my cousins recommended this B and B and so we booked it.
They were very helpful on the phone when we called and gave us lots of advice and information. They ended up giving us a double room for myself at a single rate.

The B and B is located in Winterbourne Abbas which is a few miles away from Dorchester. It is really a collection of houses with a garage, B and B and a couple of food places. The road its located on is fairly busy. It is handy for driving around the countryside as its close to the coast and the towns etc.

The house is quite big but as its 300 yrs old, the ceilings are lower upstairs with beams and different floor levels. I liked it all but especially my double room on the top floor.

My relatives had two twin rooms on the first floor and I thought they were adequate for their purpose. There was a cute sitting room on the same floor so we didnt have to stay in our rooms.
My double room was bigger and brighter than the rooms lower down. All the rooms had decent bathrooms attached as well as tea and coffee facilities.

Breakfast is served on the main floor. The owners assign a table for each room so we were all on one table each morning. Breakfast was served from 8-9 and was delicious.
There is an array of cereals and juices to choose from. You can also order a cooked breakfast which I did. The bacon in particular was really good.

Parking is a bit tight as the house is just off the road. There is space for three cars out front and three at the back. We had no problem as the B and B was quiet the couple of days we were there. I would imagine it gets interesting when its busy though.

I liked this B and B as it was easy to get to, close to all the different places we had to get to such as Weymouth and Portesham. The owners were very forthcoming with information and advice.

I think it works best for those who want a quaint base to see this area of Dorset. It isnt luxurious with great views so it would not be ideal for anyone who wishes to spend a lot of time relaxing rather than sight-seeing.

I would stay here again.

Room Tip: The first Double room at the top of the house was the best of the rooms that I saw.

We came late and without booking with our little son, but there was a very warm and
friendly welcome. Immediately we got an extra bed for the 3 of us in the room, which
was very cosy and tidy. Though located next to a busy road, we did not hear a thing during the night, as the windows had double glassing. Fantastic new bathroom, very good
breakfast and nice talks with the owner. We extended our stay for another day.
Great view on the church!

This B&B is very well located for those wishing to walk on the South Dorset Ridgeway, or visiting Chesil Beach, for instance. We all had well-equipped and comfortable rooms. Breakfast was excellent and served by friendly staff, which gave us the start to the day we needed for the hard work ahead! I would have no hesitation in recommending Churchview to others.

We have just spent 5 nights at Churchview Guest House in Dorset. The owners are extremely friendly and pay attention to detail which helped to make our stay so enjoyable. There were several lounges that we could use with loads of leaflets and books to read. Our room was well supplied with hot drinks, biscuits and chocolates and the breakfasts were really excellent. The property has old fashioned charm with attractive gardens. It is on a main road but one does not notice this once inside. The location is good for many of the local attractions. I can thoroughly recommend Churchview.

Room Tip: Our room had a modern, recently fitted bathroom that was excellent.

We stayed in a double room with a window facing out the front. The room was large and cheerful, with fresh and perky decor. We prefer accommodations with history and charm, and the Churchview had both aplenty. The owners could not be nicer or more helpful. My husband had ancestors who were on the ship that left from Dorset and founded present-day Boston. Jane gave us a map of Dorchester and did all she could to help us set out retracing their steps. Breakfast was delicious and we had a particularly delightful chat with Michael about the differences in American and British table customs. It is such little personal touches that make a holiday special. We enjoyed everything about the Churchview and look forward to returning.

The room was clean but small and dated which made it feel like there was too much furniture in there. The owner was friendly but had a bit of a thing about parking. The moment we arrived we were marched back outside so he could lecture us on the rules of parking. He seemed quite amazed that we'd already managed to put out car in one of the parking spaces without the aid of a diagram that he was trying to give us. The night was uncomfortable. You had to shut the windows to drown out the constant 24hour traffic on the main road 2 metres from your head. That made it stuffy and hot and twice during the night the person in the room above me seemed to fall out of bed and wake me up with a massive thump. Paper thin walls AND ceilings it seems.

To top it all, there was an obnoxious bloke next door to us that decided to have a mobile phone conversation in front of our door so as not to disturb his lady friend in his room. They then proceeeded to bicker at breakfast. I know you can't choose your guests but it didn't really add to the atmosphere of the place.

Breakfast was very nice though.
