Really great place to eat out, very nice food, chilled out non stuffy atmosphere.
Food & drink prices very reasonable, service was fast & polite.
I eat out almost every weekend and this is for me in the top three Bournemouth restaurants.

There aren't many genuine Japanese restaurants outside of London. Most of the ones that do exist are owned and staffed by Chinese, Thai etc. That doesn't necessarily make them bad, but the majority that I've tried lack authenticity and I'd be very dubious about eating their sushi.

Bournemouth doesn't differ in this regard, with Funki Sushi and the other places that have opened, and in most cases closed, not being 'Japanese' Japanese. However, Nippon Inn breaks the mould and is Japanese food cooked by Japanese people (possibly family run?) and therefore wins hands down in terms of authenticity over other options in the area.

It's more home-cooking Japanese than fine-dining, and doesn't have the delicacy of some of the best Japanese food. However, the layout of the restaurant and the style of food is more like an Izakaya (Japanese pub serving food), and the dishes available are a perfect accompaniment for the on-tap Asahi and reasonably priced Sake. The standard is consistent, and the service is friendly and fast. We go back regularly for the tempura, katsu kare, agedashi tofu, nankotsu (make sure you know what you're ordering if you go for this!), sushi of the day, gyu don and karaage chicken, and whilst we've had better of these elsewhere (in London and outside the UK) we never leave disappointed. It's a great place to go for a couple of hours, have a few drinks and slowly eat your way through their menu in a tapas style!

I can't give it a 5/5 rating as it dips slightly below that level, but it's one of the best places to eat in Bournemouth and it's always in the top 3 of our choices when considering where to eat in the town.

I have eaten here several times and always found the staff incredibly friendly and welcoming. More home-style cooking than a lot of Japanese restaurants the quality is very good and prices are just right. Some nice one-pot don dishes such as gyudon and tendon with prices usually sub £6 for a very satisfying meal. The decor is nice as well, all in all a very pleasant evening out and much recommended.

The food was amazing, top notch if you're looking for authentic Japanese food. However i suggest you book a table first before you came.

Went to this place last night having read mixed reviews on trip advisor. My SO and I only stopped for a snack after learning that ramen was only on the lunchtime menu, we were disappointed by the lack of variety compared to the sushi/Japanese restaurants we usually eat at. I'd recommend the yakitori but not the sushi. The ambiance was not that great with loud Olympics in the background and a staff who, though polite enough, didn't seem all there. It is a place that cannot decide if it is a bar, qwerky sushi cafe or authentic Japanese restaurant. Don't think I'll come back sadly. It has an identity crisis but the potential to become something much more!
Good luck to staff and future customers

Thank Richard K
