Just returned from holiday with Shearings staying at The Majestic. Despite few problems with the room which was dealt with efficiently, we had a pleasant stay. The food is good and also the service, albeit eating times need to be a little more flexible avoiding particuarly the early morning rush to the cereal bar. Drinks are expensive and it would nice to have had the vouchers. You should be aware that this hotel is not very near Bournemouth centre unlike the Savoy and to older visitors you do need the public transport, which is exellent. Having stayed before at the Savoy and indeed we visited there for a coffee on this holiday it is a much more pleasant hotel and much nearer the centre of Bournemouth. As with both these hotels, the bedrooms do need a makeoverAs to the size of the beds, i.e. double 4ft 6ins in this day and age is too small, unfortunely this is not an uncommon thing which is why we tend to have a twin room, but this was not possible on this occasion. Windows at the Majestic all need replacing as the seals have gone and almost impossible to see out of them. I understand that this is on the agenda!Would we visit Majestic again, answer is definitely no, but would go again to the Savoy.

Room Tip: Choose a suite or higher floor preferably overlooking pool

Hi Patsyj42
Thanks for your comments we are doing the windows as part of our ongoing improvements and these should be finished soon. We do offer bar vouchers on some of our breaks as do the Savoy keep an eye out for the voucher breaks when they are on sale. We try to keep our bar prices as competitive as we can to the high street and are cheaper than most other hotels near us but unfortunately we can’t mach one large high street pub chains.

my husband and i enjoed our time in bournemouth, hotel is in middle of revamp but in no way did it affect our stay never once did i see mould or smell anything bad in hotel. staff are so freindly in this hotel and willing to help always, food was of a good standard with a good varied menu bar staff came to your table every evening so you could order drinks. entertainment was ok but with it being a lovely week we only stayed in for entertainment once. we went with shearings and would come again thankyou to all the staff who work very hard and to laurence our driver. not 5 star hotel but great hotel for money we paid.

Hi geordieWashingt….
Thanks for your great comments I am glad to see you enjoyed your stay with us. We have just about finished the big jobs for this year now and are finishing off some small jobs We all try to keep things as unobtrusive as we can while work is going on and I am pleased to see this didn’t affect your stay with us. I will pass your kind words on the staff. We try to offer 1st class service here and like to think we are great value for money. Hope to see you again soon.

We have just returned from a weeks stay in the Majestic and can honestly stay that it is by far the worst hotel we have ever stayed in.Everywhere you went there was a strange smell
The state of the dining room is unbelievable with food ingrained into the carpet, wall paper hanging off the walls and signs of mould.
Whilst we could not fault the food or the menu this aspect of the hotel was its only redeeming feature.
The entrance lobby was tired the stair carpet was threadbare and the general decoration was endlessly covered in scuff marks.
The room itself was filthy with black mould around the window frame, the wardrobe doors off their runners and jammed so much so that my wife could not move them and as for the rubber hose for a shower, how dated is that!
How people can say that they actually enjoyed staying here defies logic.
Somebody must get a grip of this place!
We will never return!

Hi Christopher b
I am pleased to announce the main part of this year’s improvements have now been completed and the front entrance and ballroom are looking nice. We like to pride ourselves in our service and I am glad to see most people comment on how friendly and welcoming we are. We are always looking at ways of improving and making our guests stay as enjoyable as possible yet still remaining value for money.

No Access for wheelchair in lift ?
Rooms need repair ( brown ring around bath and hole in ceiling / paper hanging off walls)
Reception mixed up room order (Doubles instead of twins)
No Access for Wheelchair ( 6 steps) in the dining hall.
Wheelchair member given room on 1st floor (booked ground floor)
Work going on at hotel with bad smells and work starting at 8am in the morning (not told this on booking).
Food and entertainment ok.
Would not recommend to anybody.(hotel needs to enter the modern age re rooms and service to people in wheelchairs.)

Hi HILDA C
Thanks for your comments about our hotel. I was concerned to see your comments about mixing up your room types and checked this straight away I see we indeed gave you what you had booked, as we don’t have any ground floor rooms at all we did however give you our disabled room this is indeed on the first floor and we do advertise the hotel may not be suitable for people with limited mobility and encourage people who have concerns about access or steps (there are 2 steps to the dinning room) to call us as we can answer any questions they may have. Due to our small lift (Pictures can be found on Trip Advisor of the lift) and 2 steps to the dining room we normally recommend our sister hotel The Savoy on the West Cliff if anyone calls us who is looking to holiday in Bournemouth and needs to use a wheel chair. They have level access to the whole ground floor and has a number of ground floor bedrooms as well.

Spent 5 days at this hotel with Shearings, really enjoyed and well worth a visit.Although work men was there it didn't spoil the holiday, they was as friendly as the staff. For what we pay, it no one should complain.

Room Tip: We had a visit to the Navel Base in Portsmouth, which was really enjoyable.
