“Insanitary and the management are sharks - be warned”
Reviewed October 3, 2009

We went for a conference at the BIC as the Croham was about a ten minute walk away. I admit the room rate was cheap. But, cheap or not, we didn't expect insanitary. The first room we were given in the old part of the building stank of stale smoke, the sheets and bed covers had fresh stains all over them and there was a thick layer of dust all over the surfaces. The carpet was also damp as if something had recently been wiped up from it. If the whole of Bournemouth hadn't been booked out for the conference we would have stayed elsewhere. As it was we complained and were moved to a room in the new extension bit of the hotel. The room was very small, but a slight improvement on the previous room in that it didn't have the stale smoke scent in the air. However the bed linen was still heavily stained.
The mattresses in both rooms were very soft and full of broken springs.
Didn't try the breakfasts as I wouldn't have risked it for hygeine reasons.
The really cheeky thing was that the manager tried to charge us an extra night because we switched rooms within 10 mins of checking on the grounds that we had "used" the room. He argued with us for ages saying the bed had to be re-made. We explained we had only pulled back the heavily stained cover to see if the sheets were equally soiled.
Vile.
Unless you are very desperate for a place to stay in Bournemouth, avoid The Croham Hotel.
Oh and they charge you £3.50 a night for parking.

My partner booked this hotel for the August bank holiday without checking any of the review sites first, if he had we would never have gone there!

Firstly we had to pay to park the car, £3.50 per day, in a very small car park that had no security and people from other hotels were using it, making space limited.

On arrival we weren't given a particularly warm welcome and the receptionist was unable to give us a map of the area. The halls of the hotel had been newly decorated in cheap blown vinyl but there was awful 1960's carpet on the stairs and water stained newer carpet in the halls.

The room was adequate in size but the curtains on the window were flimsy with very thin linings and were hanging off, they were also stained with make up. We struggled to get to sleep at night because they let the light in. The bed was the smallest double I've ever seen, more a large single and not very comfortable. The television was a small old portable with only 5 channels and the volume was hopeless, hence everyone had their tv's blasting out (another reason why we couldn't sleep). We could also hear the people upstairs (there appeared to be about 25 bunked into the room judging by the noise) clomping elephant like to the bathroom to have a pee, which we could also hear, at 3 am in the morning. The bathroom door was a 70's sliding wooden door only attached at the top with an inch gap when closed, giving no privacy. The bathrrom suite was okay but the bottom layer of tiles had been very badly replaced and the tiles were moldy.

If that wasn't bad enough, breakfast on Sunday was a canteen affair. The choice was help yourself to orange juice, orange juice or orange juice and 3 types of cereal. The 'english breakfast' was piled high on hot plates and you helped yourself. The food was cheap quality, greasy and cold as was the toast (recycled I suspect). I tried six different tables before I found a clean set of cutlery. I left the dining room hungry. The staff appeared clueless and one member of staff was having a 'how to set the table' lesson as guests were coming down for breakfast!

This hotel was shabby to say the least and they charged us £40 per person per night for the privilege, what a cheek!

I would definitely never ever stay at this hotel again.

As a family of four we are always on a fairly tight budget, and basically we got what we paid for. The good size family room contained a double and two single beds with an ensuite, albeit a little cramped (particularly the loo!). Being on the top floor it was particularly hot and would have benefited from some form of A/C or even a fan. One major criticism is that the pillows were hard and unforgiving, with both myself and my wife suffering with neck ache in the morning after a difficult nights sleep. The room after closer inspection by my wife looked like it hadn't had a good spring clean in a while and was obviously suffering from constant use. We loved the breakfast, being a full English. As it was just a short break for the benefit of the children, it was fun and thoroughly enjoyed by them, so it fulfilled the main reason for the stay. However, I think if we were to stay for a longer period my choice would be a bit more discerning.

We've just come back from a stay at the 'wonderful' Croham and what can I say other than if anyone is thinking of going, change your booking now!

I'll list the problems;

~ The locks on the door were faulty, at one point it took us over 15 minutes to get out of the room, in the event of a fire we were going to be toast!
~The rooms were badly decorated, with damp and also the ceiling paper was hanging off in places.
~ The fire alarms were tied in carrier bags so the chances of them going off in a fire are minimal.
~ The bedding was heavily stained and smelly.
~ At breakfast a number of ants were all over the table, when we complained we were told that this is not unusual at this time of year!!!
~ A number of fleas were found.
~ Bathrooms were revolting and the one in our double was so small you couldn't close the door if you were sat on the toilet and couldn't shower due to the lever to turn it on was digging in the back!!
~ Full english was a minimal greasy breakfast.
~ Had to pay for parking £3.50 a night!
~ When complaining the staff just shrugged the shoulders and said the manager wasn't in today (for 3 conscutive days)

The Pro's.....

None!

As soon as we arrived, we deeply regretted our decision to book this hotel. It claims it's had a recent refurbishment, but desperately needs another one.
Let's start with the doors to both of our rooms: it was obvious that the locks had been broken, perhaps the doors had been forced by drunken stags/hens at some point? The replacement locks were badly fitted and it would have taken only a bit of a shove to break them. In my opinion, the rooms were not secure and we took all of our valuables with us every time we went out.
Our "family room" had a double bed and a single. These were, without doubt, the most uncomfortable beds we'd ever tried to sleep in. The double was a mass of lumps and bumps and gave us sore backs and hips. The bedspreads were both stained, as were the cushions. However, the sheets and pillowcases were clean. The walls had quite a few scuffs and gave the room an overall grubby appearance. The television jumped from channel to channel and it took endless fiddling to get it to settle long enough on one channel. Only four terrestial channels were available. The bathroom was clean, but very old.
The single room displayed all of the same problems as the double, and was tiny. Very grim and depressing.
Breakfast was basic, to say the least. Three types of cereal, orange juice, fried eggs, beans and greasy sausages. Not very appetising. However, the service was polite and efficient.
We paid an outrageous £342.50 for two nights in what is simply a very tatty bed and breakfast. And they had the cheek to charge us for car-parking. There must be better for this price in Bournemouth.

It was our first time in Bournemouth and a last minute decison for a quick weekend break. We had a room which had excellent views. The staff were very friendly and could not do enough to help and the room itself was fantastic, large room and with a decent sized bed.
The hotel is quiet (even when fully booked) and the breakfast was great as well. It is walking distance of the beach and shops within just a couple of minutes.
We are returning in September with a group of friends. Thoroughly recommended!!

We were a party of 5 people and booked a twin and a triple room.

We were welcomed on the Tursday by a helpful male member of staff who was very professional in the way he handled the gusets.

The three days we spent at the hotel we were made very homely.

The breakfast was a full english buffet breakfast and there was ample of foor available until 9.30pm

The bar was opent all times and at about 3am we took the dkinks to our room as the night porter was busy with his night time chores.
