“Lovely friendly place, great location”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

We stayed here for a weekend in June, and had the suite room. The parking was tight, but the welcome very friendly and the room had charm! Not the most modern room, but perfect for what we wanted.

The location was great, just a couple of minutes from the seafront (a few extra minutes to walk down the zigzags to the beach itself), and five mins walk from the town centre.

The bar and pool table were welcome additions too once we'd returned from dinner,

after reading all the 5 circle reviews we decided to book expecting a fabulous experience however it was not to be. On arrival the grounds, outside of the buildings and public rooms were lovely, we were then shown our room- very dated, and tired, some damaged fittings and overall dark and depressing. breakfast was ok- not included in the price and no indication of prices available- ordering the night before is strange as well. the owners were lovely and Rob very helpful in regards of pointing out places to go and eat, in all very disappointed with room

Having tried to book four rooms for one night in a larger hotel and being told we could only book two nights we started to look for alternative accommodation. We found several that looked good but the reviews were bad. Wood Lodge stood out as all the reviews were good. On ringing the hotel the Owner Rob was happy to accommodate us for one night but as the rooms were so reasonable we stayed for two. We were not disappointed from arrival to departure. Rob and his staff were very friendly and could not do enough for our party. One member suffers with allergies and again Rob went out of his way to provide her with gluten free bread. He also said we could invite our Son and family to breakfast on the sunday to make our family weekend outstanding. As we have family in the area we shall now be using this hotel. Congratulations to Rob and his staff.

Booked a short stay here at very short notice with my family, four of us including a toddler and from the moment we arrived at a well kempt front garden until the moment we left after being allowed to leave quite a lot of baggage in storage after we had checked out so we could enjoy half a day on the beach before heading back to the train station we were made to feel extremely welcome.
The proprietor was an extremely friendly gentleman, he always gave the impression he couldn't do enough for us including giving a bit of information about the best places to eat out locally and some good family friendly attractions.
The hotel itself was very good too, an excellent location, barely five minutes walk from the sea front and about fifteen minutes from the station if you are coming in by public transport. The gardens are beautiful, the back garden is a nice place for young children to play. Inside has a rather traditional feel and a real sense of character which made a welcome change from the white walls and minimalism of certain chain hotels. We stayed in the family room which was very spacious. Breakfast was good, there was a varied menu and the food was well cooked. Tea & coffee facilities in the room were as you would expect them to be although it does appear there is a charge if you have more than your initial allocation of hot chocolate.
The only criticisms I can level are that the en suite bathroom was quite small which meant no sink inside the en suite (though there is one in the room) and a lack of space which might be a problem if you have a squirming toddler to deal with and that there are a few creaky floorboards on the stairs and corridor which can be heard from inside the room if people outside are walking around late at night.
Overall it is one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it and it will be the first place I call should I ever go back to Bournemouth.

We stayed at the wood lodge we had the four poster room we found this hotel nice and clean
and the owner was very helpful. The owner gave us a good restaurant to go to
and let us keep our room for the next day while we waited to go on our evening flight i would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Four poster overlooks a well kept front garden

Four weeks to the day that I checked into the Waldorf in NYC, I checked into Wood Lodge at Bournemouth. There is simply NO comparison, Wood Lodge is far far superior! Here's why...
A warm welcome and efficient check in.
Free off road parking.
Free upgrade to a large (spotless) twin room.
Loads of storage space, flat screen tv and tea and coffee makings plus a bottle of water!
Quiet at night.
Powerful hot shower.
Two beautiful lounges, one with a huge tv.
Well stocked and very reasonably priced bar.
Friendly, helpful owners and staff.
Beautiful gardens.
The best breakfast EVER!
Great location.
I could go on!!!!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Room Tip: I can only speak for room 2 (twin beds) which was lovely!

Just back from a weekend stay at the Wood Lodge. We were a family of three and booked a family room with a double bed and a single bed (room number 3). On first appearances we were very impressed with the building and lovely garden. However on viewing our room we were very disappointed. It was a back room with locked windows so were unable to open them on the hottest day of the year. We had a very small shower room with toilet which in my opinion needed a face lift, and was also full of mould around the window. The beds were so old we all suffered from back ache the next morning and unfortunately we had two nights there. We did not participate in breakfast so I cannot comment on the food quality. Would I return again, no. Save your money.
