“Very good value”
Reviewed February 20, 2012

We have stayed at various hotels in Bournemouth while visiting family and this hotel is by far one of the better ones.

On arriving we were welcomed by the very Helpful obliging owner, who was more than ready to offer advice about our stay in Bournemouth, Room was comfortable warm clean, with added bonus of fresh milk in a shared fridge. Very quiet and peaceful.
Breakfast was really good, I liked the idea of pre ordering the night before.
I will be staying here again

pool table in the lounge, a microwave and a small fridge on the landing, room clean but a little cold.

I visited Wood Lodge hotel at the end of June, start of July. Firstly the location was excellent and very accessible for the beach. The room was very spacious and clean with a nice shower. The tea and coffee were replenished each day along with the water. I know this is to be expected but after staying at a larger 4 star hotel where this did not happen it is worth a brief mention. This is just one small example of the attention to detail here. Our room was overlooking the garden which was very pleasant.

For me though it was not the room or the location which made this stay enjoyable, it was the hoteliers, and Rob in particular who always seemed to be on hand to serve me Glenmorangie, despite being busy co-running the hotel. There was a nice quiet lounge to sit and enjoy the drinks and as the hotel is a small family run hotel this room was never overcrowded and a way to meet other guests or relax with ones family. There was also a nice garden in which to sit and relax. This was well kept and ideal for those hot summer days and when we visited the days were very hot.

The breakfast was nice and plentiful and one evening they even adjusted the menu for us and we all had steak which was lovely. It was my parents’ 50th Wedding Anniversary and they even arranged the cake. This sort of service is very rare these days though not completely defunct as you will see from one of my other reviews. The staff at this hotel made this special occasion feel very special.

We had a lovely stay and this hotel not only met my high standards but far exceeded them
I would definitely recommend a break at this hotel.

Room Tip: We had one of the rooms at the back of the hotel and it was very nice and quiet which is all one cou...

lovely cosy hotel at B+B prices. Loved the decor in the public areas esp the v comfortable, welcoming lounge. I was in 1A which, though not large, was comfortable and well kitted out. So quiet, I slept for more hours than usual - didn't hear the grandfather clock which I thought might be annoying. Lovely, prompt breakfast served at pre-arranged time. Paid £31 which if you compare the laterooms website for other accomodation in Bournemouth is an absolute bargain - self styled 'budget' hen/stag party hotels charge £25-£30. Highly recommended

This hotel/ guest house is in a good location for both beach and town centre and offers an excellent cooked breakfast. However it lets itself down on its dire need of refurbishment. I must say though i can only comment on the room i stayed in that being room 12. Upon entering there was a strong smell of damp. We kept all windows open for the two days we were there but this had little effect. The bathroom was the real issue. It was pretty awful. If you wanted to have a quick shower then forget it. The flow was so minimal it could take you some time to get all your body wet. The bathroom blind was dirty. It really was quite off putting. Another issue was the complimentary tray. Horlicks, hot chocolate and bottled water are provided on arrival but from then on you are charged 5op a sachet and £1 a bottle, pretty extortionate i believe. Despite the room being serviced daily we was disappointed to find the cups were left dirty. To sum up if your only requirements are good location and breakfast but your'e not too concerned about the accommodation itself then this could be the place for you.
