“The best guesthouse ever !!!!!!!”
Reviewed September 26, 2008

I have just returned from a short break to Bournemouth and have to say that my stay at The Newark made my weekend.
I received a warm welcome at the door from the proprietor David who was so welcoming, friendly and helpful.
The guesthouse is superbly decorated and has some wonderful homely features. The room was spotlessly clean and it is so nice to have fresh fluffy towels and clean linen on your bed that you know has been freshly laundered.
The breakfast menu is great and the staff are more than happy to cater for your individual needs.

This is my second stay at the Newark this year and there will be many more repeat visits.

Thankyou to the staff and most of all to David who is fab !!

I challenge anyone to disagree with the above. The Newark is great !!

Sarah x

We stayed for 6 nights in this hotel and I would stay there again at every time.
The rooms are very clean and nice and tastefully equiped. The owner was always very helpful and nice.
The location was perfect, after a short walk of 5-10 min you are at the beach or in the city center.
The only point which could be better was the breakfast time. Half an hour is just to less for a relaxed morning.
I enjoeyed my stay at the Newark´s and will go there again, if I have the chance :)

I stayed for 5 nights bed & breakfast. The owner was courteous and obliging without being overbearing. The breakfasts were excellent. The room was clean, nicely decorated and comfortable. At £35 per night for a single room it was excellent valkue and i would definitely stay again.

After booking the holiday we asked if we could drop the cases off in the morning until the room was ready. No problem was the reply. On turning up at 9.30 we were greeteed by the owner who clearly wasnt happy after all.He made it quite clear that He doesnt do that but reluctantly agreed. This after saying it was ok. The reason being , breakfast was being served. You have a window of 30 minutes for your Breakfast. He is like a tape recorder. He says exactly the same thing to every single person in there. He was also very rude to a lady in there. She aked if her family could possibly have some toast and his reply was "Its coming,I`m going as fast as I can".In the 5 days we were there,He never once asked if we were enjoying our stay or indeed Take some sort of Interest in us.
The hotel itself is lovely,Well decorated throughout,Decent size rooms,Television and also very clean. The only gripe about the room was to enjoy a shower, you had to be 6 stone and 7 foot 10 tall as they were so small, you could barely turn around in it.Also,if you have anyone in your party with walking difficulties you have a problem. We were on the 2nd floor and the breakfast room was in the basement and there was 52 steps from our room to it.Even to the ground floor, there was 34 steps,so please bare this in mind if Booking. All in all,If you can put up with the Headmaster as we "affectionally" called him,for 30 mins a day then the hotel is excellent. On the other hand,30 mins can be an awfully long time sometimes.

As mentioned these guest did arrive early and were greeted warmly and professionally and there luggage stored in a safe location as we were very busy this might have seemed rushed and not as attentive as we would normally be for which we apologise for.
As the guest would have noticed over there 5 day stay we are a very busy establishment full most of the year with much repeat business.
All our guest are greeted warmly at breakfast time and yes if a guest is new you will hear the same thing over again like where the cereals juices fruit are etc and there choice of main course so we are sorry that this offended them but hey its being professional and it will not change.

.We had one family staying at the hotel over the period these guest stayed so I have taken the time to call them and ask them about the person who was apparently rude to them at breakfast to which they were quite taken aback that someone had made mischief out of a comment that was made in a completely different context to what the guest have said, this family congratulated us on such a well run establishment and have made it very clear no member of staff was rude either at breakfast or at any time during there stay.

All our showers are standard size we are inspected yearly and meet all requirements

I think it says it all about people who go away on holiday and end up counting steps to other floors and actually right it down or memorise the number, we are a converted Victorian building if stairs are an issue then surely this should be discussed before booking

Finally I personally only met (face to face) these guest twice and greeted them on both occasions but seemed alittle Curt in there response,in fact on one occasion I was with another guest who did say theres no pleasing some people and perhaps the poor weather we were having had made them so glum,so perhaps if they had not concerned themselves in other guest conversations at breakfast and counted less stairs they might just might have enjoyed there stay more and found that we are not the type of host they make us out to be.

We as a family having been staying and returning to this hotel for the last 12+ years,it is a real joy to return to and a credit to it's owners.
We have always been made to feel very welcome by the owners and have a most comfortable and refreshing holiday, with a excellent hearty cooked English breakfast to start each day.
We have stayed in different rooms over our times of visiting the Newark, and they have all been decorated tastefully ,and very clean and comfortable.
This hotel is also very well placed for the beach and we must not forget the all important fab shopping areas ,and a stroll to the beautiful gardens.
