Topaz Hotel
Ranked #102 of 133 Bournemouth B&B and Inns
Reviewed August 10, 2012

We highly recommend staying in this B&B.

We travelled with my parents in a group of 4 and booked 2 double bedrooms to stay 2 nights in this excellent B&B. The rooms are tidy and very clean. The bathrooms were equally nice. There are bars and pubs nearby but not directly on the road, therefore it was very quiet and night time.

The owners were very welcoming and friendly, breakfast was great and you get to choose from a large selection of dishes at a buffet. There is plenty of parking behind the house and the beach / city centre was easily accessibly by foot. The owner also gave us good advice on activities in and around Bournemouth and we could leave our car for the whole day after we had checked out.

Stayed for one night with my husband as we were going to a show at the Pavillion. Lady on Reception was very welcoming and helpful. Room nice (Room 4) - at the back of the building, and therefore quiet and it was very clean. Loved the fact that there was more than one teabag and coffee sachet (unlike some places) who only think you need one drink for a one night stay. Also liked the fact that the hairdryer was near a mirror (small details like that do matter). Bathroom was spacious with lovely white towels. A key is given so you can come and go as you please which is nice. The B&B is very near to the beach and centre so the location is excellent. The owner Jamie (lovely man) is very friendly and helpful and is very hands on. During our stay, he was there to greet guests in the breakfast room, sorting coffee and toast etc. and overseeing breakfast. The cooked breakfast was superb quality and beautifully cooked and we both agreed that it was better than we have had in some hotels. Lots of juices, cereals etc. were also available. It is a B&B and not a hotel and is terrific value for money. If you are looking for a nice clean place with a really good breakfast, a totally hands on owner and great location, think you would be hard pressed to find better!

We stayed at The Topaz for 3 nights July 17th-20th.Found it easily enough and the car park, which is a bit tight to get into but not a problem if you're careful. We were met at the door by the owner Jamie who was instantly friendly and welcoming. Checked in quickly and found our room (3) fair size, very clean, with a view of the main street. As others have said, the bathroom was a bit on the small side but perfectly set out and adequate, not a problem for us but you could struggle if you were a 'big' person, if you know what I mean :-)
The hotel is in a perfect position midway between the beach and the town centre.
The breakfast, as others have said, was really good, especially for a small place. The quality of the food is on a par with much more expensive hotels we have stayed in.
One nice touch was there was an iron and ironing board right outside our room door for guests to use. In other places we've stayed you usualy have to ask at reception, wait for it to arrive, then they come and take it away again, smiling for a tip. So this was very welcome.
There are a couple of pubs at the top of the road which are ok but nothing special. There is an Indian restaurant just around the corner and this is very good, great service lovely food, nice bright interior. There is a very interesting pub a couple of streets away called "The Goat and Tricycle" they sell about 12 real ales and an interesting menu including goat curry.
All in all we were very happy with our stay at the Topaz, nice, clean friendly, bargain price. If I was asked to find a criticism it would be that our room was very slightly cold on one or two occasions but this could be down to the lousy summer and the fact that I'm very nesh! I like to be very warm indoors, but that's just me. I can understand the owner not putting the heating on in July of course I can.
Would we stay at this hotel again? Yes we would. Will we? Unlikely but that's only because we've 'done' Bournemouth now and there are so many other places to see in the world.
Thanks Jamie (Maximus!)

I stayed her with my sister for four nights, Sunday through to Thursday. Location, taxi ride from train station (£7.00), we did walk it but it took an hour! There are buses (2a, 2b and the 50).
Our room (No 9) was on the top floor at the back of the building, nice and quiet. We booked a twin room, we had a single bed and a double bed. The room had a good size wardrobe, two chairs and a table (wicker), chest of 3 drawers, bedside drawer unit, wall mounted TV, tea and coffee making facilities. The shower room was very small but we managed with a few bumped elbows! The sink was very small, the shower was powerful and hot.
Breakfast was served from 8am to 9am. On offer you had cereal, juices, fruit, tea, coffee, bacon, sausages, eggs, beans, fried bread and toast. The cooking was superb and the service fantastic.
Jamie was amazingly friendly and made us feel welcome the moment we stepped through the front door.

We stayed here for 2 nights and can't complain! More like a guest house than hotel though, but thats OK too! Friendly welcome; nice comfy room, although the bathroom was a bit of a squeeze! Breakfast was lovely and location was super! Not even 5 minutes walk to the beach or town centre. Perfect.

Once again Jamie and Lee have been super hosts. We travelled as a group of 27 cheer mums and children to compete at the Future Cheer Internationals. Jamie and Lee go out of their way to ensure we are well looked after and the children feel comfortable. Due to the early start of the competition they made sure every body was fed before competing, cooking breakfast for 7am on the sunday morning, which was loverly. Dinner on friday night was beautiful and relaxing. On behalf of everybody staying their and who attended the bbq on the saturday night a big THANKYOU xx also a special thankyou to Jamie who waited up for me to arrive at 3am after my daughters prom to let me into the hotel. We have already booked the hotel for next years internationals 2013 as this is a real gem of a hotel.
