“Stop searching and relax at Brooklands”
Reviewed June 24, 2012

A typical guesthouse from the outside. But typical ends there.

Excellent staff wanting to make your stay the best possible.
Comfortable spacious room.
Almost "at-cost" bar.
Top quality food.
Good wi-fi

We booked the hotel for a conference at the BIC (250yds away) and weren't let down.

There are restaurants, all within 5 minutes walk and a paper-shop seconds away. However, try the hotel lunches and evening meals for those lazy days. You won't regret it.

We are all looking forward to returning to Brooklands very soon.

Room Tip: Room 18 is really spacious!

Hello railybobs!
We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay with us at Brooklands and especially enjoyed our evening chats with you, and other residents in the lounge/bar during the evenings. We are also very glad you mentioned our meals as its a relatively new menu and something we wanted to try, so your feedback encourages us to continue our meals for the forceable future.Again, thank you for taking the time to write your review and we hope to see you soon xx

I booked this hotel as I wanted somewhere with nice un-kitsch rooms and not too expensive. It does look to be an average seaside guesthouse from the outside but inside they have tried to make it more modern as the photos show. They haven't gone all out on the finish and the bathrooms are basic but this probably keeps the cost down overall. I do think they have ploughed money in to the beds however as the bed was really big and sooooo comfortable! (And that's what a good hotel is all about right!)

The 'Small Double' room was bright and airy with enough room for two. A quirky mix of very modern furniture and decor with a bit of 80's thrown in. Almost a nostalgic feel about it and we liked it. The double glazing kept any exterior noise out. If I were to suggest an improvement perhaps heavier curtains right across the bay window area would reduce light overnight and look good too. The tap in our shower cubicle was far too big for the size of the cubicle. It hurts if you catch yourself on it so you sort of need to stand sideways to avoid it. These are ancillary points however.

The breakfast was help yourself to plenty of cereal/yoghurts/juices/fruit with Full English cooked to order. A friendly waiter. I liked the fact that the toast was brought to the table HOT and that there was just enough. (I hate wasted toast!) The cooked breakfast was also just enough and was again really hot. I thought the sausage could have been of better quality, perhaps Cumberland or pork and leek for example, but overall it was enjoyable, with a bottomless pot of coffee. Also great eggs from a local farm!

I haven't even started on the hosts - what can I say? They are terrific! Jackie is so lovely and friendly and makes you feel right at home straight away. She has a way of making you feel like you've known her for years. Nothing is too much trouble. Bill is mischiefous and fun and great to have a chat with of an evening. Emma is a lovely girl too. They have a cute bar and lounge/TV room where you can sit undisturbed till late if you like reading or watching TV. Press a buzzer and Emma will pop up to serve if you want another drink, sometimes followed by her sweet Jack Russel (a friendly quiet one - not yappy!) The bar prices are really good too. For example a pint of lager and a double JD came to £6.50.

The location is very good - just a walk round the corner to the sea front and plenty of restaurants nearby. The nearby convenience store has a cash machine. We also took advantage of the guest pass for the Marriott leisure facilities which are a short walk away (turn right out of the hotel and go in the back way - it's much quicker) and that was a very nice way to spend a couple of hours. It wasn't busy atall so that's always a plus! Marriott provide the towels. They have the pool, sauna & steam rooms and a hot tub.

Overall we really enjoyed our weekend stay at Brooklands and we would definitely stay again.

Dear Lou M,
Thank you for your review, (we all think you should do it professionally as it was very informative!). We are continually trying to update our rooms, without causing too much disruption, which is difficult during the lead up to summer, but have certainly taken on board your comment about the need for heavier curtains. We will certainly add it to our "to do" list. xx

We stayed at brooklands hotel for a weekend away. Our room was rather small and dated but was clean and comfortable to stay in. The breakfast was excellent, had cereals, cooked breakfast and yoghurts to choose from, along with juices and tea and coffee.
The only small problem was with the parking, as sometimes you found yourself blocking someone in and then having to move and visa versa.
Overall for the price we paid, we had a pleasant stay and was in a good location to get to all the sites of Bournemouth. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

We stayed here on 11 May in preparation for a family wedding in Bournemouth followed by a Reception at Compton Acres. The room was described as small at the time of booking - this honesty is most appreciated, wish other hotels were as honest. There were few rooms available to us when we booked, guessing this is a popular venue. It was actually fine for us with a bay window and very good light for getting ready for the wedding with all mod cons and tea and coffee making facilities.

The staff were all naturally friendly, helpful and welcoming. The breakfast was very good and although we were booking out at 10:30 we were offered free parking all day for the wedding. Didn't have time to visit the pool, so if we were coming back to Bournemouth/Poole we'd be likely to rebook here. Thank you

Nice hotel in a great location but the thing that really makes this place special is the staff.
Nothing was too much trouble and they were genuinely pleased to help and stop for a chat. The rooms were comfortable, clean and quiet.
We ate both nights in the bar from the menu that consisted of Lasagna, chili, Curry, Cheese burger or Steak pie. All were home made and fantastic value as were the drinks.
On the last day I missed breakfast but Jackie took pity on me and rustled me up something, which I later found out was her own breakfast.
Both Jackie and Emma looked after us very well and were the perfect hosts.

Just spent 2days with my daughters hen party. Very friendly staff,Emma was lovely nothing was too much trouble. Very comfy bed, had a lovely nights sleep. Jackie, the owner was fabulous when we were let down on our pole dancing event and managed to find us an alternative activity. Great location, walking distance to beach and town. Would definitely return.
