The staff were very hard to understand.
Room temperature was stifling on arrival. Uncleanliness throughout the whole of the hotel, including the bedding.
Room was unclean containing hairs in the shower, in the sink, on and in the toilet and also some hairs found in the bed. The carpet looked as if it had not been hovered for at least 2 weeks, dirty marks were also found on the walls, ceiling and the radiator.
Double room contained two single mattresses on a double base. Constant noise throughout the night making it very difficult to get sleep, The kettle for the room was a different make for the base meaning making a hot drink was very hard.
If choosing this hotel I would recommend cleaning products such as bleach to be taken in luggage.
*Photos on the website were nothing like the actual hotel.

It really depends on what you want. I went to this hotel as part of a 16-strong stag party. As far as I'm concerned, it's not a hotel that you book into for a week as part of a holiday and expect have a great night's sleep. For 1 night stays or party weekends, it does it's job.

The few staff that I saw seemed really friendly. Everywhere looked very clean, tidy and fresh. The rooms are possibly recently redecorated.

Location wise, it's walking distance from the beach and the centre.

The main negative point is that the beds are awful. Incredibly soft. However, if you're not planning on staying in bed for too long ( I was in it for just over 2 hours) then it doesnt cause a massive problem.

The bar and lounge area is perfectly suitable with a large screen tv on the wall and a pool table.

Breakfast was half decent aswell. Eggs, bacon, sausage, tomatoes, hash browns all freshly cooked and put out for you to help yourself along with the usual cereal and toast.

Would I go again? If I was going again for the same purpose and with people who didnt want to pay more for a better hotel...then yes, I possibly would.

Would I recommend it? Maybe not but I wouldnt warn anybody against it either.

Terrible beds, rooms not cleaned and maintained properly, showers did not work on a regular basis -sometimes only cold water-, no change of towels, dining room too small, long queues at the breakfast bar, sacks packed with laundry in the corridor, run-down hotel, guests verbally abusing other guests were not forced to leave the hotel, stag parties dominating the whole place.
Anyway: Staff very friendly, waiter in the dining room very friendly and helpful.

Grotty little hotel - uncomfortable beds, showers that dont work and twin rooms that were cammed with extra beds so they could increase their revenue as they'd overbooked! Couldn't sleep due to the stench eminating from the ensuite.

Dont stay here...!

Lousy. Not told it was a STUDENT RESIDENCE before booking.
Frequented by hen/stag types.
No parking.
Beds like marshmallows, mattresses no support.
Showers are FREEZING cold.
Lift is a safety hazard.
Kept awake all night by rowdy screaming, shouting, banging on walls/doors, vomiting, rampaging drunk students, and the noisy lot from the "doss house" next door. Had to bar room door with luggage to stay safe.
Pillows flat as pancakes.
No sheets on bed, just a manky itchy blanket and a thick quilt in AUGUST!
No phone in room, no staff, no reception on at night,
TV is a 1980's model with grey round screen that is fixed on the corner high up on the ceiling so you need the neck of an ostrich/giraffe to be able to view it without getting whiplash,
The "dining" room is down a flight of steep stairs, no handrail, breakfast is a joke, you had to keep asking for things to be topped up, tea is grey dishwater, coffee gloop, sausages wet mashed up cardboard, orange juice concentrated, yoghurt thick gloopy plastic you could use to bind things together, only redeeming feature was the eggs, tomatoes (at least they were "real"), beans, and the bacon.
Dust under furniture with crumbs and remains of toast, bread, biscuits; games machines not working, pool table no balls,
Bar not staffed by staff only student resident,
Paper thin walls, heard someone vomiting their guts up from hotel (doss house) next door in one room and in the tother, drunk blokes yakking away about their mates antics and dirty habits til 6am.

What moron rated this place a "hotel"? And who rated it a 2 star? Someone who obviously did not stay here.

At least it was better than being outside on the street. Just.

I stayed at the Maemar Hotel for a Stag Do in October 2008. Now it was only for one night and yest it beat sleeping on the streets (just) but my God please re-consider if you are going with a girlfriend or wife. Right benefits first.
1. Centrally located, a 5 minute walk from town.
2. Bar is open 24hrs.
3. Breakfast was okay.
Negatives.
1. It looks like a prison release housing centre.
2. Decor was old in 1953
3. Locks on doors (positive). Work occassionally (Negative)
4. Bad start when somebody has to say on arrival "Can I have a light bulb for my room!"
If you are going on a Stag Do you could do worse (Bangkok penal system) but you must pay the least going (We paid £30 pp). Still nice boozer down the road called The Jug and Tricycle (does real ales)
