“Hidden gem!”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

Ok, so there are the usual reviews where people are obviously expecting 6-star quality for peanuts but I can honestly say if you go with an open mind and aren't ridiculously fussy then this hotel is superb!

Location is perfect. A few minutes walk from Eastcliff zig-zag path so in next to no time you can be walking along the beach. Parking is free for guests which given the cost of parking in Bournemouth public car-parks will save you a considerable amount of money over your stay. Bear in mind a lot of hotels nearby charge extra for this as well.

The main reception area is lovely and all staff we met during our stay were very polite and helpful. We had a ground floor room for our stay and it was clean, tidy and had a few nice touches, one of these being a little fridge which you could use to keep food and drink chilled. The bed was huge, at least a king-size, and very comfortable. The bathroom had all the essentials and served its purpose. Yes, it could probably have done with a bit of a refurb but honestly it wasn't anywhere near as bad as some of these reviews make out. We had a problem with the shower leaking on the first night but mentioned it to reception the following morning and it had been fixed by the time we got in later that day - perfect!

We had breakfast each morning and there was a huge selection of cereals, museli, fresh fruit, yoghurts, pastries, fruit juices and, of course, full English. All of it was buffet style so you could literally eat as much as you want. Endless pots of tea or coffee, plus as much toast as wanted. You would seriously struggle to find a better value breakfast in the area given the quantity of food! One minor point was that the bain-maries where the cooked food was kept only had one lid between the four of them and a single burner under each to try and keep the food warm. Trouble was with no lids on the heat underneath just wasn't enough and the mushrooms and tomatoes one morning were a bit on the cool side. Perhaps either invest in some sliding lid-type trays or add a few more burners underneath each one?

Overall we loved this hotel and wouldn't hesitate to rebook again in the future. It ticked all the boxes for us and with the location being so close to the beach it just made it even better.

Highly recommended!

Room Tip: The ground floor rooms, in general, overlook the car-park. No problems with noise but if you want a...

We stayed at The Orchid for just two nights on a spur of the moment get away.
First the good points. The room was very clean, breakfast was good and the setting is OK. You can walk into the centre of Bournemouth quite comfortably or across to the beach via the zig zag path at East Cliff. Parking is not a problem
On the down side the room was very small (maybe others are larger) and the bed was very uncomfortable. The bathroom was badly in need of an upgrade - poor shower over the bath arrangement and a side panel badly damaged. The towels were its only saving grace.
In fairness we understand that a refurb is planned but in the meantime don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed.

We stayed in the suite at the Orchid hotel and it was very nice for £99. They allowed us to check in early, at no extra fee. The receptionist was very helpful in advising us on where to eat. The breakfast was perfect and the service was attentive and food was of a good quality. Very nice for the price! we would go back!

Arrived on monday to stay for 4 nights, the outside of the hotel looked nice with plenty of parking. The double room was smaller than we expected but not a problem, everything worked in the room that should of but last 2days no wifi signal. Bathroom was clean with a good shower and bath. Decor was fine but could do with repaintin on walls as some had marks n scuffs on, and carpet a little dated.Staff were all friendly, good breakfast every day, good location for beach n nitelife..good choice for a mini break, well worth what we paid and will return with friends at somepoint!

We booked a hotel for our birthday celebration for the price of 49 pounds including breakfast. We were very happy. Everything was perfect. Staff very friendly, room good size, very clean and quiet. Location very good we could easily walk to the city center and beach. Our bed was very comfortable. We really loved the outside space. We enjoyed breakfast with a good choice of hot and cold dishes. Overall very happy about choosing the Orchid Hotel. I must say next time in Bournemouth we definitely will choose the Orchid again.
