“Good value”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

We stayed here for just one night - a Friday night. The room was not huge, but fine. The bed was 2 x 3ft beds put together which was also fine and the bed was comfortable enough. The bathroom was clean. The heating worked. The breakfast was good. The receptionist was nice. Location is excellent. I'm not sure what else I need in a hotel room!

Stayed overnight as part of a local works Xmas party..The staff were very friendly and helpful..Our room was clean/ fresh and well decorated..Drinks at the bar were very reasonable compared to other hotel bars i have used..The Christmas meal was excellent for choice and quality bearing in mind what you usually get from hotel Xmas party meals..The guy running the disco was ignorant and rude and just wanted to play music he liked..I heard many complaints at breakfast the following morning about him and his choice of music...The breakfast was freshly cooked and again served with a smile.. Overall a good night which was very good value for money, just let down by the DJ who i assume is recommended to the hotel and does not reflect on the rest of the hotel staff who were excellent..

Myself and my partner stayed here for 2 nights while seeing 'War of the Worlds' (absolutely excellent show) and despite some scathing reviews on here we thought it was a comfortable enough hotel, with nice friendly staff - from the receptionists and waiting staff to the night porter! Sure there were slight imperfections, squeaky floorboards, tired decor, which were far outweighed by the magnificent breakfast, but for those who are not prepared to pay £6400 per night for the Dorchester - as shown on the tv programme - we found it excellent for our needs and would thoroughly recommend it and would certainly use it again.

Room Tip: Try to get a room to the rear as there is a road in front, which although not too busy may cause som...

We stayed at the orchid hotel for one night on Saturday 8th December. We stayed in room 116. The room was large and very clean and tidy. Unfortunately the double bed was two singles zipped together and was extremely hard and uncomfortable. Also there was a wedding on during our stay so it was very noisy throughout the night!
On a positive note the location is great, only a 5 minute walk into Bournemouth.

We stayed here for one night whilst visiting friends in bournemouth. The hotel looked very impressive from ther outside and entrance, very well decorated and the theme was apparant throughout.

We were given Room 206, on the top floor, it was a huge room , and initially we were impressed. The main issue was the shower, the tiny shower head was accompanied by a cold tap that wouldnt turn, so left us with a scalding shower. Alonside, that our room was freezing, even with both radiators turned up as high as they could go. The 'double' bed was just two singles pushed together, not a huge deal..but slightly irritating, when you are expecting a double.
It was useful to have breakfast included, and the contintel buffet was great. We both ordered cooked breakfasts, my vegetarian breakfast had no sign of a vegetarian sausage as stated on the menu, which was apparantly repkaced by a tomato, and both breakfasts had hash browns instead of fried bread, the latter wasnt a big issue but just something to be aware of.

We managed to get the room on a £39deal through booking.com, so didnt feel too hard done by, but if we wouldve paid the full price we would not have been impressed!
All in all, an ok stay, good location and average breakfast but tatty decor and facilities in need of an upgrade let the place down!

This hotel was good value for money but I would suggest checking that they don't have a wedding on when you plan on going. It was noisy, you couldn't use the bar area as you were physically gate crashing the wedding and when we got up in the morning some of the wedding party were still drinking in there from the night before., plus the bed was rock hard,, extrator fan didn't work neither did the plug socket for the kettle. The walls that divide the rooms are paper thin so no chance of sleep if you are next to people attending the wedding. On the plus side, it was a good location, free parking, staff were really helpful, shower was good and the breakfast was brilliant.

Me and my gf stayed here for a little getaway treat. We live around the bournemouth area so we like trying out local budget hotels so we can enjoy bournemouth in full, we tried out a few hotels around the area have to say the orchid proved to be a great find!!

Firstly the hotel comes with a free car park and theres quite a large number of spaces, for me ticks a box early as most hotels charge £5 to park. The reception was welcoming and the start friendly and polite. We walked into our room (double) and impressed by the space and general condition. The room was clean, spacious and came with a nice table and chairs to relax whilst overlooking the main road, the bathroom was clean and all usuals such as kettle, shower gels, etc were in place. The bed was slightly disappointing as it was two singles put together, but this had no great effect on sleep or stay.

The room was not completely modern but well kept and a lovely style fitting in with the indian theme of the hotel. The room delivers and provided a nice place to stay when changing, sleeping or relaxing.

The breakfast was fantastic. You have a buffet service continental breakfast for cereals, pasteries, juices etc. You help yourself then you order a cooked breakfast, or omlette, fish, breakfast muffins etc. You also get tea/coffee and toast whilst you wait. The service was also really good and they always checked we were ok n offered anything extra if we needed.

The BEST part was we paid £39 for this room with breakfast. Considering we gladly paid £6/7 each for the breakfast this was an absoloutel bargain. We got this price in the winter season but when we book a getaway again in the sprign we would prob look out for this hotel.

Be Aware - The main road can be quite busy throughout the evening but goes dead after 9/10pm. Also, this isnt the ritz, some things in the room werent perfect e.g. the tray was slightly old for the tea, or the table had a few marks on it but this being very very fussy. If i paid a fortune be disappointed but even at 60/70 quid for this would of been happy. I can imagine some rooms may be of less quality n perhaps was fortunate but overal my experience was a good one!!!
