“Worst hotel we have stayed in”
Reviewed November 9, 2012

Had to book this at last minute. We had a group booking and all the rooms were in desperate
need of refurbishment. The hotel had a musty smell everywhere and needs a good clean.
one room was very cold and we were told the heating will come on, it never did, so we had to swap rooms with our elderly parents so we had the cold room. As we stayed in October this is not good enough! Advised reception when checking out and didn't apologise, just made a note of it. Would not recommend the English breakfast, my son loves this usually, but left most of it, a first ever for him! Would not recommend this hotel. Spoilt a special occasion.

Room Tip: we had standard rooms, premium rooms may be ok.

We booked a nights stay through Laterooms.com. £29.00 for the two of us with what said contintental breakfast. On arriving we were very impressed by the initial view, reception, bar area. It is very Eastern boutiquey! The room was quite adequate for our nights stay, only thing I would say is that it smelt a little musty, only downside. Had a good comfortable nights sleep and went to breakfast in the morning. The room was lovely, again very Eastern and lovely quirky touches. We were expecting a continental breakfast but no, what a choice! Cereal/ toast and croissants to start followed by the best full English breakfast I have tasted in a hotel. All the staff were very attentive and polite, all in all a very good stay and great surprise for the money. Would pay £50.00 p/n and if we were in the area again would definately choose The Orchid. Thankyou :)

Room Tip: We had room 202 at the back of the hotel, away from any road noise

We just booked a short break here, on the day of arrival there was a wedding , we were advised that we could join in if we wanted ( which was nice)
Although the room did nt have a brilliant view it was very spacious, it was just somewhere to get our heads down, he hotel is in need of redecorating but apart from this it's is ok.
The breakfast was lovely and there was plenty to go around and if there wasn't the girls would get you what you wanted,
Really good base to explore and the beach is about an 8 min walk away. The town is really nice with some wonderful gardens .
Would recommend this hotel if you just wanted a base .

Decent smaller hotel, bar and breakfast areas very nice, bedrooms comfortable but quite dated. Breakfast was very good, excellent cooked breakfast but not a great selection of fruit / cereals. Overall, would use again as a budget hotel.

We spent last weekend staying at this hotel. We were downstairs in a room and although I thought it would be noisy, I have to say, it was very quiet. The room was very small though and in much need of refurbishment. It could also do with a very good clean. There were cobwebs everywhere and the expalair fan in the bathroom was very dirty. The greenery around the windows was very overgrown although this did serve as privacy I suppose.

Having said all of that, the staff were fantastic. Very friendly, very helpful and certainly on the ball. The breakfast was excellent also with everything that you could want.

I know it is a hard time for businesses of this sort at the moment but I hope some money will be put into this hotel - I think the staff deserve it as well as the visitors!!

Thanks for a lovely weekend though.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a large room
