“Soul and Motown weekend”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

Myself and my husband have just returned from a weekend stay for the soul weekend. The hotel was fabulous. The hotel was very clean and the staff could not do enough for us. The food was excellent and it was a very enjoyable stay. I do have one moan though. It was a soul and motown weekend but there was only 1 hour each night that there was any soul or motown, The support acts although were okay did not sing any soul or motown. I was really disappointed and the whole reason for booking was that I was under the impression the weekend would be soul and motown entertainment

Thank you Julie for this great review and sorry if it was not enough soul and motown. We had so many good comments from guests saying how good it was. I am glad to see that the rest of stay was "fabulous"

Thank you

We stayed at this Hotel for 5 days and we were most impressed. The staff were very efficient and friendly We updated to a superior room but when we arrived there was no heating, so we rang down to reception and they bought us a heater straight away. We did feel at first the room was rather small but with the heater it turned out to be a very warm and cosy room. The room had been refurbished so I think they had forgot to put the radiator back on. The view was lovely overlooking the gardens and the sea. The food was excellent, a good choice each evening and it was beautifully presented. The staff were always chatty and cheerful. We found the Hotel very organized. The lounge was very pleasant as it overlooked the garden and there were lots of sofas so very comfortable.Everywhere was so clean. The walk to the town along the clifftop only took 10-15mins but there is also a bus stop just along the road into Town.We will definitely visit the Hotel again as it was excellent value for money especially with the £25 per person credit to spend on drinks and food.

We stayed for a weekend break from 8th March and travelled by car. On arrival everything went extremely smoothly and we were allocated a ground floor room as requested together with an allocated parking bay [paid in advance when booking] in adjacent car park..The meals were more than adequate with choices on table d,hote menu plus the option to upgrade to a la carte, but we found this unneccessary. All meals are served by hard working staff, no self serve buffet here, and in the main were delicious. The bar and restaurant staff appeared to be interchangeable in their work and were unfailingly polite and helpful, as were reception staff and housekeeping. The entertainment provided was very good but Sunday night was a bit boring as none on that night, and most of the people there seemed to agree. all in all the break was very good and we will have no hesitation in returning.

Room Tip: If you have mobility problems request a ground floor room as the lift is tiny. Also if travel by car...

We stayed at the Savoy for 4 nights on 25th February, we booked with Shearings holidays. The service we had from both the hotel and our coach driver, Geoff was excellent. During our time on the coach Geoff was very helpful and full of local knowledge. While we were staying at the Savoy we celebrated our Silver Wedding Anniverary. On booking in, on arrival we were given a free up-grade to a Suprior room, this room was on the ground floor with a door leading onto a patio and the gardens. The room had been recently re-furnished, the bed was extremely comfortable. The staff on the reception were happy to help and the bar staff were very friendly. The food was excellent, you could up-grade at a small cost to the a la carte menu, but there was no reason to do this, there was a choice of 3 starters, 4 mains including the chefs choice of the day, which was always very tasty, and 3 desserts The waiters and waitress worked very hard to keep your table clear and to make sure you didn't wait long for your food once you had ordered, and it was always hot and you had dish of different veg .While we were there they were re-furnishing a lot of the rooms, but this did not interfer with your hloiday, even the workman were polite to you. We loved Bournemouth and will most certainly return, hopefully when the weather is warmer and we can enjoy the excellent views from the hotel gardens, which have easy access to the cliff top walk ways. This hotel is part of a group called Coast and Country, we were given goods reviews on all these hotels for other guests who had been to them with Shearings, we will certainly be trying them too Thank you again to the manager and staff for the bottle of bubbly.

We enjoyed our stay at the Savoy. Arriving on Friday the Reception staff clearly had their work cut out as a coah load appeared at the same time as us but they were very attentive and coureous to everyone (although I think one couple must have tried their patience!!). The room we were allocated was sufficient but certainly not one of the posh ones. The bathroom was very disappointing - no heat at all - not even a heated towel rail and the light over the mirror didnt work either. I know the hotel is being refurbished but surely every bathroom, at this time of year, should have heat!! The meals are very good and the staff attentive - except Sunday breakfast where our waitress seemed to have trouble understanding what the job entailed - waited to be served for 20 minutes until another waiter pointed out that she was not doing her job. Apart from that episode the staff couldnt do enough for everyone and so polite. The entertainment in the evenings was very good and the dancefloor was well used. The car park is very tight and once you are parked it it hard to get out again especially if the car parked next to you decides to take up one and a half spaces!! The hotel is in a lovely position near the coastal path for good walking and near the shopping centre - within walking distance. Overall a lovely weekend.

Thank you for your complimentary review.

As mentioned before in previous responses, we are fitting heated towel rails into our newly refurbished bathrooms. My apologies for the wait on Sunday morning, we do have a couple of new staff and even though they are working hard, they might need a little bit of guidance and so I am glad to hear that another member of staff was able to help.

I am glad to see that overall you had a lovely weekend.

See you soon.

Our visit to the Savoy was on a self-drive basis and the check in was very smooth and efficient. We parked the car for £5 per day in the adjoining car park which was very convenient. Our room was on the ground floor was a bonus with an outer door with own patio area and table and chairs. (A garden room) This was a lovely surprise, and even though quite chilly, my husband put his fleece on and sat outside to read his book and said how idyllic a spot it would be in the summer months!
We thought the 15 minute ‘staggering’ of the evening meal slot worked very well and tables were nicely spaced so you could be ‘private’ if you wanted but could also have a chat with the people seated nearby. The quality of food and standard of service was excellent. We took drinks from the bar to our table as the wine waiter always seemed quite busy!
Our room was generally spacious and clean and the beds comfortable. The breakfast choice was quite sufficient both on the buffet table and on the menu. Our only ‘niggle’ was that there were no plates to carry croissants or rolls, just bowls intended for the cereals!
Entertainment was not a priority for us but we thoroughly enjoyed Neil Scott on Saturday evening; a good singer with just the right amount of banter thrown in! On Friday evening we visited friends who live locally.
As our daughter then had a crisis at home we had to leave after dinner on Sunday evening but our request for an earlier restaurant slot was accommodated with no problem. I stipulated to our daughter that I wasn’t leaving until I’d had my roast beef (which was delicious with lovely roast potatoes!)
Overall we thought that the hotel was in an enviable location with elevated sea views. All staff were attentive and courteous and they went out of their way to meet the individual needs of guests and we look forward to returning in the warmer months to sit by the swimming pool.

The entrance of the hotel is nothing like its namesake in London! It was full of older people on a coach trip, luckily meaning no stag/hen dos.
We had a nice view/veranda opportunity, although the door leading out was very tatty ( see pic). The usual mealy-mouthed environmental statement in the bathroom about reusing the towels was contradicted by needing to have the window open because you couldn't tun the heating off.
Everywhere was clean, a tiny bit of mould in the bathroom, where they need to put a shelf as there is otherwise nowhere to put your stuff.
Parking is tight and costs £5, but the overnight B and B rate was a bargain for somewhere with a sea view. We ate there and the email was of good quality. But if you're vegetarian, you probably won't enjoy the veggie sausages (mashed potato variety, tasteless and as hard as rock).
The staff were unfailingly helpful and good-natured.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We try to be as good value as possible and it is nice to read that you were satisfied with your holidays. My apologies for the "tatty" door, the maintenance man will have a look at it. Thank you for mentioning our staff and all their hard work.
