We have just had a four night stay at The Savoy and we were very happy with our experience. We had paid to upgrade to a Garden view room which also had a sea view. The room had a small balcony and was so warm even with the radiator off that we slept with the door slighty open. The decor was a little dated but the room was spotlessly clean and the bathroom was bright and modern and had obviously been refurbished. We were half board and the food was good in general and if you did not like the Table D'hote menu it only cost a small amount to upgrade to the A La Carte menu. The staff were all friendly and welcoming so overall an enjoyable experience.

Room Tip: The garden view rooms are worth the extra. See photos

We booked last minute at this hotel for one night, staff are very friendly & helpful, rooms are clean .Hotel does need a make over in the rooms, the ventalation system in bathroom is so noisey you can hear the room above when they go in bathroom. The food was ok,feel having to pay a £5 day to park is a bit much after all we are paying to stay in the hotel. We had a nice room with excellant views so cant fault that. The evening entertainment was very good & i feel the bar prices are reasonable to.

Room Tip: room 104 has a great view & very spacious

Thank you Lolly for your review.

We are having some bedrooms refurbished at the moment and they are looking great.
Room 104 is scheduled to be upgraded to our superior specification by the end of the year. I'm sorry that you were unhappy with our car park charges, however this new initiative has come about from looking at what is happening in the industry and comments/requests from guests about their desire to be able to reserve a car parking space for a small sum.

I will pass your lovely comments to our staff. I am glad you have enjoyed all the other aspect of your stay and If you wish to come back to see us, I would if I may recommend you to give us a call prior your arrival to request a room recently refurbished as we would be happy to do our best to allocate you to more suitable room for your needs.

Had a great few days at this very good Hotel. Good food friendly staff. Stayed last weekend in January , even had good weather. Hotel very clean. Great evening entertainment . Already booked our next weekend break for February.

Room Tip: only stayed for weekend so did not think worth paying for upgrade of £15 per person per night.

We have been to many hotels with Shearings and found this to be one of the best. We certainly find the Coast and Country Hotels a better option.
The hotel is in a lovely position and we had excellent views over the garden - something we had to pay for as we requested a twin room and could only have one if we paid a £24 supplement for a sea view! The hotel has been nicely refurbished downstairs, the entrance, reception, bar and lounge areas, together with the dining room are very tastefully decorated and the seating areas comortable.
The staff are all extremely friendly, smile a lot and make you feel welcome. The meals were very good with plenty of choice, nicely presented and served by the young waiters and waitresses, most of whom seemed not to be English, being here to learn the language and the job. They have something to teach our own younsters!
Our room was enormous with a double and single bed, plus lots of storage space. It was very clean and kept so during our stay. There was only a small radiator for the size of the room, luckily it was a mild week, I don't know what it would be like during a cold spell. The downfall of the room was that the large bathroom had absolutely NO HEAT. You just had to rush in there and grin and bear it (or should I say bare it?) when going to have a bath or shower.
Interestingly, I have just noticed a Trip Advisor review about our room 311, saying much the same about the room 311.
We did enquire at reception as to whether any of the rooms had heating in the bathrooms and were told it was only the refurbished rooms - most I believe you have to pay extra for.
It would not seem too major a job to install electric towel rails in these bathrooms - there was a television (with electric socket) on the adjoining wall.
We will certainly return to this hotel, hopefully in warm weather.

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for your “excellent” and detailed review. As explained below, Room 311 is scheduled to be refurbished later in the year and a heater towel rail will be fitted in the bathroom. Thank you so much for your nice comments on our staff who works very hard to make our customer stays enjoyable.

We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Typical Shearings Coast & Country hotel offering good value comfortable room and bed with friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant is airy and pleasant with large windows looking out over the hotel gardens with food of average quality but with above average presentation and with a reasonable choice. The lift is very small but worked and our room (418) was in the roof so had restricted headroom and a small window. The radiator was not working (but a plug in electric radiator was quickly provided) and the floor boards were very squeaky but the room was clean. Shearings appear to be implementing a policy of charging £5 per day to park in the hotel car park in more and more of their hotels. I can see the benefit of being able to pay for a guaranteed parking spot in busy times but feel it is unecessary to charge when the car park is half empty. Overall an enjoyable short break in a nice hotel in a lovely cliff top position.

Room Tip: Unless you opt to pay for one of the superior garden rooms then best option is probably a room on fl...
