Dear Suejames111,
We are so glad you had such a lovely stay...despite the good old English weather. The sun must be due to make an appearance soon. Being only a short drive from us please come back and see us again soon.

Lovely hotel, very clean and staff are very welcoming and chatty! Room was small but contained everything you'd need for a weekend away, Only negative thing was the noise of the floor boards from upstairs.
Overall really enjoyed our stay!

Thank you Zcol for taking the time to share your recent experience with us. Being a smaller hotel our staff are able to get to know each individual guest and provide a friendly - but professional service. Thank you for your kind comments on our staff and also very importantly the cleanliness of the hotel.
I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and I hope to welcome you back when you are next in Bournemouth.
Kind Regards

Lovely, cosy feel hotel, every single member of staff displayed superb customer service. Meals in the lounge bar were excellent value for money and of a very high standard. The breakfast menu was good but perhaps could do with being brought up to the same standard as the evening meals. The rooms were very clean and tidy, and the hotel has refurbished to a high standard. The outdoor pool that is still advertised has now been filled in, which is a shame for the summer months. I would certainly reccommend this hotel, and would happily stay there again.

A lovely review camemo thank you for your posting. We pride ourselves on being a small hotel with big customer service. Our staff are definitely one of our biggest assets. We have spent a lot of time trawling websites and requesting any mention of the pool to be removed. This is a long process and as you can imagine there are so many websites, some of which are harder to contact to remove content. This on-going job is certainly our priority. We hope to see you again so you can experience some of our 'excellent customer service' once more.

Kindest Regards

Wasn't sure what to expect from this hotel. The location is certainly good, being far enough away from the main areas to be quiet, but only a short stroll to restaurants for dinner. Breakfasts in the meantime were fine with a reasonable selection of hot and cold food on offer.

As we drove pretty much everywhere from the hotel to see as many of the sites as possible and were out for the best part of the day, it was another bonus to always manage to find a car parking space at the back of the hotel upon our return.

The title tells the room story. Ours was bright, clean and comfortable with a very contemporary bathroom. Oddly though the mirror was not above the sink, but on the opposite wall ... and the ladder radiator was right by the toilet so you had to be careful to avoid being scalded! Hotel photos show that they aren't huge but they are surprisingly cosy without being too twee. You don't want for any amenity either, except that, like others, we found the wi-fi unobtainable :-/

Other than that - Oh yes folks, you've heard it hear before and it is SO true ... OMG the creaky floorboards!!! Apparently those above our room seemed to think that hotel bedrooms were for parading left to right in for hours on end from the crack of dawn through to breakfast time! Couldn't they hear the noise they were making?!

If you think this will spoil it for you then, don't worry - go anyway and take your earplugs as let's be fair, every hotel has it's irritating little quirks and this is a great budget hotel that deserves a fair rating.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Room Tip: Read the reviews and consider what's most important to you to make your stay a happy one - then...

Dear viviko,
We are glad you think our hotel is homely - we do too! From your review i am almost sure you were located in room 15 - our newest refurbished room. I have passed your comments regarding the mirror onto our maintenance department. The creaky floorboards stem from the hotel building being over 100 years old and a lot of guests think this adds to our character i apologise for nay inconvenience this may have caused. Your opinions are very valuable in helping us to get things right and we hope you will return again soon to a 'homely hotel with Country Cottage style rooms'
Best Wishes

Loved the look and feel of the hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff.

As already stated by another traveler, the Wi-Fi does NOT work once you leave the ground floor, so this needs to be addressed. I used the connection from an adjacent hotel :-)

The room (15) was spaceous, bright with a large window, bath (very nice) but 2 single beds pushed together. Sleep comfort would have been excellent except for the creaky floor from above. We were awake from 6am on the Saturday and 7am on the Sunday as the people above us walked to and fro across the room for hours. I complained to the hotel that they need to fix the creaky floor boards.

A few simple fix's and this will be great.

Room Tip: The floor above room 15 creaks

Thank you Rich850 for posting a review on your stay at the Montague. From your profile i can see you have stayed in many hotels and I would like to assure you that we have had an ongoing problem with our Wi-Fi over the last few days - which was beyond our control. This has now been rectified and is working to its full potential. We will be taking all your comments on board and are always pleased to receive feedback - positive or negative. This way we can continue to build on each customer experience.

Stayed in Room 24 on the third floor 1-3 March 2013.

We bought a Groupon voucher to stay at the hotel at a discounted rate. At £79 for 2 nights B&B, this was good value, but I would not pay more to stay there.

On arrival, we received a warm welcome (although slightly early for check-in) and were given some local information along with times for breakfast and dinner. The location was very good- £6 in a taxi from Bournemouth station and less than 10 mins walk to the town centre or the beach).

When we got to our room we were surprised by the small size of the room and connected bathroom. We were also disappointed to find we only had a very small shower cubicle, but the hotel does advertise that only SOME rooms have a bath. The real problem was the WiFi. Although we were told the hotel had free wifi throughout, we were unable to establish a working connection. We went straight back to the desk but were told all the rooms were full and everyone else had checked in already so we couldn't be moved (this was at 2.05; 5 minutes after check in officially began).

The receptionist offered to restart the router as this may help. When we returned to our room, we thought it had worked but soon realised the connection still did not work on our laptops or smartphones; we were just too far away from the router. We ended up paying £5/day for BTFON connection which was not great. This was a real disappointment as we were hoping to curl up in front of a movie in bed, and hadn't expected to spend this £10 for two days WiFi.

The room was comfortable and clean and the staff did a lovely job of straightening up after our first night. The shower was tiny and they had provided one bottle of shower gel/shampoo which I didn't try and one bottle of handwash which was fine. On the Friday and Saturday, the shower was powerful and very hot but on the Sunday it did not work. I had started my shower and put shampoo on my hair when it stopped working. I called the reception and the lady said she would get back to me in "2 seconds". Ten minutes later, she hadn't called back and I had tried the shower a few times. Eventually it started working again and I was able to finish washing my hair. The receptionist didn't call back at all.

We had breakfast both days. The range of cereals was good but the fruit looked unappetising. They also had 3 juices, tea, coffee and hot chocolate. Cooked breakfast was nice although the meat was scarce- one very small sausage and one rasher of bacon. Service was very friendly.

The hotel is fine if you're just looking for a base while you explore Bournemouth but if you want a bit of luxury, look elsewhere. And don't rely on the WiFi!

Room Tip: If I was to return, I'd ask for a ground floor room so I had a better chance at WiFi. I'd al...

Dear Kayleigh87,
We are sorry you were 'disappointed' with your stay. We have indeed had some problems with the Wi-Fi over the weekend and are very sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. The problems were beyond our control and were rectified as soon as an engineer was available to replace our router. We aim to provide high-speed internet access to all guests 24-hours a day as do all Best Western Hotels but due to modern technology there may be times we experience a problem and for this we are very sorry.
Kindest Regards

The Montague is in a great location on the West Cliff side of Bournemouth about 10 minutes walk from the town centre. Great value in terms of on-site parking and free wi-fi. The receptionist was very welcoming and helpful. The room was clean but not really memorable - the decor was rather dated and the bed a little too soft. The temperature throughout the hotel was stiflingly hot. A shame that the hotel pool is not maintained and is unusable - would be nice to have a dip ater the heat from the room! The hotel is fairly quiet, although the floorboards do creak, but it's an old building! Decent breakfast with attentive staff.

All-in-all a decent budget hotel

Dear trainsandpiers,
Thank you for your TripAdvisor review following your stay at our hotel. I have noticed that you stayed with us in September 2012 and are reviewing your stay almost 6 months later? I'm sorry that you feel we lack the wow factor. We try to make each stay enjoyable for every guest and our key factors in this include cleanliness, breakfast, parking, Wi-Fi and staff attentiveness. We are pleased you were happy with each of these areas. In the last few weeks we have chosen to cover the pool with an outside terrace which will be a sun trap in the warmer months as we are only two minutes from the sea therefore when you were with us in September this would have been closed ready for preparation of the above. If you come back and see us you will see the changes that we have made to the hotel. Once again i thank you for taking the time to post this review and we really do hope to see you again soon.
