“Great stay at the Connaught Lodge”
Reviewed September 13, 2013

We had a wonderful stay at the Connaught Lodge. The staff were friendly, the spa services are great and it is great that you get to use them even if you are staying in the lodge, and it was no trouble at all to walk to the facilties from the lodge, we were even able to use the facilties even after checking out. The jacuzzi was really just amazing, it was the hottest jacuzzi ive ever experienced, so that was amazing! And it wasnt all that busy when we were using the facilties during the day. The cost of the room was a little high, but we were staying in the middle of summer so I can understand why the room rates were a little high and also it was a good location. It was about a 5minute walk to the beach, and was close by to resturants and pubs. The breakfast was absolutely amazing, the man serving it was very friendly and they had the most amazing pasteries, especially the cinnamon rolls! YUM! It was raining outside so it got a little crowded inside but they had a solution and we ate our breakfast in a room closeby, which we didnt mind at all to do as it was a little quieter in the other room. The room was spacious, the bed comfy we had some teeny tiny tears in our sheets but thats no bigge really, barely noticable. there was a strange tapping noise i could hear throughout the night, i couldnt figure out what it was, but im sure this isnt the hotels fault. because it was my birthday they offered two free glasses of wine complimentary which we thought was a really nice touch. they also offered us late check out free of charge, absolutely brilliant!! we really appreciated that. bathroom and room was all clean and spotless, no complaints at all about the room or the hotel at all really. would recommend and return.

We visited the hotel for one night only as we were attending the Air Festival. It was a busy everywhere in Bournemouth but there was a sense of professional calm immediately we entered the hotel. The Connaught Lodge was real find, how have we missed this hotel in the past?
The staff were friendly, smart and extremely accommodating. From arrival to departure we were treated to excellent service which was delivered with warm genuine smiles.
Our room, although in need of a few cosmetic repairs, was a good size and spotlessly clean. The beds were very comfortable and joy of joy had duvets not sheets and blankets. Air conditioning would be a bonus as although there was a fan provided we had trouble getting the room to an acceptable temperature. To be fair air conditioning is a rarity in most UK hotels because our weather doesn't warrant it!
The ability to use the facilities in the adjoining Connaught Hotel was an added bonus. We loved the courtyard dining area which allowed us to enjoy the excellent breakfast in the warm autumn sun. We arrived back late from the Air Festival and although the hotel communal area was deserted we were able to get a late night drink in the bar with no difficulty. Once again the bar service was excellent.
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at The Connaught Lodge and will definitely consider this hotel for our next Bournemouth trip.

We stayed at the lodge which is next door to the hotel. The room was clean and had every thing we needed, even the newspaper we ordered was delivered to our room. All meals are taken at the hotel, which means only a very, very, short walk from the lodge to the hotel , no bother at all, the weather was fab all week and breakfast was taken most mornings outside.
The staff were friendly, and very helpful, nothing was to trouble.
You still have the use of the hotel facilities, pool ect, when in the lodge.
The beech and town is walk able, which is a good thing to try and walk off some of the great breakfast that was provided. We ordered a picnic for one of the days we had watching the air show, which was fine, a nice touch to have.
The only thing i can think of on a down side the bed was a little to soft for me, but that is a personal thing
We would defiantly come again Thank-you to all the staff, you were all great

This is such a well run hotel, with excellent attention to detail. All the staff seem to know exactly what they're doing and to go out of their way to be helpful at all times. The public rooms are very smart, comfortable and spacious and it was a bonus to have breakfast outside in the attractive courtyard terrace. Food and service in the bar, lounge and at breakfast were impeccable. There's obviously a lot of work going on to upgrade the decor, though the hotel already feels smart and well cared for in most areas.

First time at this hotel after coming to Bournemouth last 5 years for the airshow. This hotel is absolutely superb we were a family party of 6 and the welcome and service we received was second to none. From the moment we arrived nothing was too much trouble the staff were friendly and extremely helpful.Nick and his team are a total credit to the hotel, breakfast was superb and we ate in the brasserie 1 night and again the service and food were brilliant. The pool and leisure facilities are great and very clean, the hotel is in very easy walking distance to the beach and town.A huge thank you to all the staff for a wonderful stay,we will almost certainly return as soon as possible. In my view this should be at least a 4 star hotel

The best aspect of this hotel, apart from its central location in the town, is the pool and spa area. The steam room is nicely mosaic-tiled and has a pleasant menthol smell, the sauna room is just the right temperature, the jacuzzi is not too hot and the bubbles are long-lasting; the pool water is not too cool and (when we were there) had plenty of space for serious swimming. The staff on duty were unobtrusive but very courteous and obliging. If you don't have a £1 coin for the lockers, the girl at the desk will look after your wristwatch for you, while clothing can be taken poolside if necessary. Although the Lodge is an annex to the main hotel, there is a nice short cut across the outside dining area/garden between the two. Reception was friendly and efficient for us, and the whole ambience of the main hotel reception and dining room was relaxed and unfussy. The buffet breakfast was good, and the room we had, though on the small side, was extremely comfortable. It is only a short walk down to the beach promenade or to the town centre and BIC theatre, with plenty of places to eat and drink on the way. There may be cheaper hotels in the area, but for a short stay in Bournemouth with free access to a pool and sauna etc,the hotel has a country-house ambience which would seem to merit more than the 3-star rating it currently has.

A great big thank you OBS for your very detailed and complimentary review. We're improving all the time. The £1 for the locker is simply to ensure the key is returned at which point the £1 coin is returned. Hope to have the pleasure of your company again.

Last minute booking of a hotel for work which got me the last room in the hotel as very little availability in Bournemouth left with 1 days notice.
Arrived late at night to be charged up front - bit strange - then given my keycard to a kind of student apartment type block next door. Apparently the hotel own that too. So up i go - get a 1 man 1960's lift up to my floor and find my room.
It was alright though, clean enough, big enough bed (single person room but still had a double bed). a wee desk and good sized wardrobe, sockets, kettle n T&Coffee.
However I had the unfortunate circumstance of having the smallest bathroom in the world which when using the facilituies was a problem as I could only get in top toilet by shimmying in sideways. Also the shower temperature control was not great, very difficult to go to anything except from arctic cold to Scalding 4th degree burns.
Next morning connected onto the Wifi - and it didn't work - oh dear.
The next evening after work, went out for dinner, came back and went to the bar to read. Pleasant enough however consistently each night they closed early so you had to keep and eye out and order a last drink if you wanted one.
Nevertheless, During my whole stay i will say this - Every member of staff i came in contact with was courteous, hard working, extremely nice and went out of their way to help me or provide a great service. so I applaud everyone of them.
When i go back to Bournemouth I'll probably stay somewhere else but only because I normally stay in one of my chains where i collect points. However it shouldn't reflect as the main hotel itself and its staff were very pleasant and made my stay very good. (Plus when i said about the broadband it was fixed on my return to the hotel and never happened again!)
Finally it worked out better than my other colleague who had booked another Best western 5 minutes away that was actually a recreation of Fawlty towers.

Room Tip: Stay in the main hotel - Its much nicer!

You clearly picked the right hotel Captain and I was delighted to read that we managed to sort out the niggling issues to your satisfaction. The hotel has undergone a major refurbishment programme and the lift has also just been modernised - nothing we can do about the size I'm afraid but they do say small is beautiful!! Do try us again next year you will see even more changes which I feel sure will meet with your approval.

Best wishes and thank you for you review.
