Dear Cor Van Laar, thank you for your great comments on Tripadvisor. We were only too happy to help out with arranging your medication and I am know that despite the bad weather, your Horticultural group had a thoroughly good time visiting the local gardens. Hope to see you again next year. Regards Graham

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights and were very happy with the hotel. Other people have praised the breakfast staff and I agree, they are hard working and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The room was very nice with a fridge which was a nice addition. We didn't use the restaurant as they didn't start serving until 7.00 which was a bit late for us but otherwise the menu was tempting.

The only negative thing was the shower that had very low water pressure and the first night we used it the water too hot to stand under and couldn't be turned down. The maintenance man fixed the temperature for us the following morning and that was OK until the last morning when it went too hot again.

Apart from that it is a great hotel and we will stay there again when next in Bournemouth for sure.

Dear Johnwithah, Thank you for your great review which has been passed to our staff whom I know will be delighted with your generous words of praise. I remember our maintenance engineer had difficulties getting the temperature of your shower just right and although it won't now benefit yourself, I am happy to report that the shower is now fully working. You mentioned that you would return to The Elstead and I look forward to welcoming you back. Regards Graham.

We stayed here in June 2012 and were pleasantly surprised. We weren't expecting anything special from a 3 star but we really enjoyed our stay here. The service from the staff, particularly at breakfast and in the restaurant, was excellent and could not be faulted. They were fast, efficient, polite and helpful. Definitely worth a mention!

Rooms
We had a large double room, which had everything you would need including tea and coffee making facilities, small flat screen TV and a trouser press and iron. The rooms were spotlessly clean, especially the bathroom. The decor could probably do with updating, and the bathroom could probably do with re-grouting and re-sealing, but it was clean and well presented none-the-less.Shower was slightly weak, but that's a minor gripe. I found the bed slightly uncomfortable and we could hear other guests in the adjoining rooms occasionally but nothing really disturbed our sleep too much.

Breakfast
There was a good selection at the buffet breakfast. It would have been nice if there had been a larger selection of pastries rather than the just bog standard croissants, but there was still a large selection of cereals, fruit and yogurts as well as a well stocked cooked breakfast selection. As mentioned, the staff were very attentive and would get you porridge or poached eggs if required.

Pool and Other Facilities
We did not use this so cannot comment.

Restaurant and Bar
We ate in both. The bar had a good selection of pub meals that weren't too expensive. The restaurant serves 2 courses for £15 or 3 courses for £21 (both also include tea or coffee). There was a nice selection of food and the menu changes regularly. The meal we ate in the restaurant was pleasant enough, but nothing special for the price. The staff made the meal worthwhile, however the restaurant, although not unpleasant, could do with updating.

Location
In a good location, just 10 minutes walk from the beach on a quiet street. A lovely chinese restaurant just a few minutes walk away in the next street too!

All in all, if we were to visit Bournemouth again, we would definitely stay in the Elstead!

There are many hotels in Bournemouth so finding one to suite your budget and taste is a challenge. The Elstead is quitely located and well situated for both the town and beach being about 10 mins walk to each. The rooms are clean, comfortable and well equiped for an older styled family hotel. We had a room on the first floor at the front of the hotel which is fine but ideal if you want an early nigh: it was above the bar area. The breakfast was great, plenty of variety. Staff were very helpful, even remembering your previous selections!

Room Tip: Avoid rooms above the bar and dining room.

Arrived Friday pm around 3.00. No food being served so had to go out. Went to room (on top floor in the roof) and was very hot, despite only being around 18 degrees outside. On the small side, but large bathroom. Asked if another room available and quickly offered a larger room on the next floor down. Difference in temperature was noticeable as you walked down the stairs! Clean and tidy. No window in bathroom and extractor not working. Told reception and was fixed.

We stayed DB&B. Always 4 or 5 choices for dinner and food was fine. Breakfast was hot buffet plus a choice of cereals and juices. You could order omelettes, poached eggs, kippers etc. if you wished. Service was good, but did have a little language difficulty at times (where are all the English that used to be in the hotel trade?)! Drinks average pub prices.

The fact that there was a pool was a deciding factor in choosing the hotel, as travelling with our 6 year old daughter who loves swimming. The pool is quite small (not a problem) but was accessed across the gym (which we didn’t use), even when sopping wet! Temperature was ok for our daughter.

Hotel is positioned 5-10 mins from front and 10-15 from pier/parks. Quiet road, so no problems with windows open at night, with off road parking.

Overall a good break for the price paid and would recommend to others looking on the same basis. Try to avoid the top floor if you want to avoid stuffy rooms. This was in the ‘old’ wing. The newer wing may be different.

Room Tip: Back rooms in old wing look over the kitchen extension, so some cooking smells at times. Avoid top f...
