“A good place for an escape”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 14, 2013

I live in Bournemouth but for reasons I will not go into I had to book somewhere to stay locally for 3 nights. The look of the place is rather old-fashioned but the atmosphere is very homely, the staff are pleasant and the rooms are decent to very good. There is an indoor swimming pool in the basement and a jacuzzi. I only had supper there once and the food was fine. I would say excellent because the vegetables were the best I think I have ever had in a restaurant and the pudding was fantastic but the steak I had was ok by quality but seemed to have been steamed and then deep fried as it was all soft on the inside and a uniform golden brown on the outside! It didn't really matter because I wasn't there for the food and anyway there are plenty of restaurants nearby.

I definitely would go again and in fact sent surplus family there for 4 nights the other week.

Room Tip: If you want a sea view go for the second floor as the sea view is more restricted on the first.

Just returned today from another excellent stay at The Riviera. Lovely room onthe first floor, sea view and balcony and could not have wished for better weather.

Mr Gould and his staff are always welcoming and friendly and couldnt do enough for you and I did enjoy him being our wine waiter a couple of times.

Food was once again excellent, particularly enjoyed the Mackerel starter and the Duck main. Thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment in the bar last night (Wednesday).

We will be returning next year and look forward to seeing the familiar faces.

Room Tip: Get a sea view and balcony room, worth it for a little bit extra.

We have recently returned from a two night stay in one of the superior holiday apartments at the Rivera hotel, and we were really impressed. We booked an apartment as we needed the space and privacy as we have two dogs. The apartments have their own entrance on the next road along from the hotel. This was ideal as we don't like staying in hotels where you have to walk the dogs through a reception area. The apartment was spacious and clean and had everything we needed. We didn't really use the kitchen but it was very well equipped. The apartment was very warm and tastefully decorated with a huge flatscreen TV and DVD player. Our only criticism was that the double bed was not of a great quality but we walked so much we slept well :-) We will definitely be back and stay longer next time!

Visited this hotel for a few years on the weekend before Xmas with around 20 family members. Always good value for money, clean, friendly and great food. We hadn't been back for some 19 years due to family coming along. Then around 4 years ago we returned with our youngest daughter and her boyfriend. It was just the same ! Refurbished but still clean, friendly, value for money and great food. Since then we have bed. Going at least on e a year for a few days at Easter and in October. A few times the whole family have gone. Caters for all ages !

Room Tip: Sea view with balcony !

We stayed here for one night in October as we were going to see Jake Bugg at the BIC, we payed £90 for a triple room, room only rate. The hotel staff seem very good and the swimming pool and spa pool were great, the sauna didn't seem to work though, but it was no big deal. The room was a nice size on floor 2 but very near the lift, which meant during the night every time the lift was called you could hear the annoying pinging sound. The other problems were the creaking floorboards ,which even woke my deep sleeping husband up, anytime anyone walked along the corridor they would creak away loudly. The night we stayed it rained very heavily and in our bathroom there was a skylight and even with the door shut it was an awful noise as the rain hammered down,I have slept in quieter caravans. Then through poor layout another room had their bathroom next to the wall where our bed was ,waking me up when they ran water, I will admit I am a light sleeper but this was to much. I didn't complain but I would not want to stay again

Room Tip: Don't stay on floor 2 or near the lift

Hotel was clean staff friendly but hotel is lacking in quality of the food offered as there is little or no selection for example soup was the same for both day with no other variety on offer, rooms were hot and very small outside pool although not in use was very dirty and the area looked like it has not been maintained for some considerable time, AS a senior manager if my staff were booked in to the hotel I would be disappointed with the conditions of the hotel,

Room Tip: There are many better hotel if you use the websites and the quality of the food would be better in o...

Stayed at this hotel for two nights in October. Got a great price through late rooms which included breakfast. The breakfast was great it had all you needed, including full English, fruit and cereal. My kids went in the indoor pool and free towels were provided. We were able to take our dog which was great and the room had four beds and was very clean and tidy. The location is great just 5 minutes walk to the beach. You can walk to Bournemouth which takes about 25 minutes. Look forward to going back soon.
