“Squeaky!”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

I stayed here as part of a Conference which gave us special rates, so I cannot comment on price. The room we had was HUGE with a whirlpool bath, but the TV was very small. The floorboards throughout are very squeaky and at night I was glad to be at the end of a corridor so no other guests would walk past my room which would defintaley awoken me. The location is good-nice and central with shops and restaurants nearby. Breakfast was excellent, although I do miss the days when you didnt have to make your own toast!

My friend and I stayed here for one night at the weekend. Upon arrival we were greeted by a young friendly receptionist who helped us check in swiftly and cheerfully directed us to our rooms and the underground car park. The rooms were ‘single’ rooms but had a small size double bed, so for one person was quite adequate. The rooms overall were fine and the bathroom was quite good considering that the price of the hotel room for the night was under a £100.

The hotel was a little tired in places and could do with a sprucing up a bit. The pool/spa area was nice and was well received in the morning after a night on the sauce.

The reception seemed to have very little local knowledge. We enquired about a bar in sandbanks which is only 5 miles away and were met with vacant stares liked we just asked them to recommend us a bar on the moon. We found our own way via google maps and a smartphone.

Breakfast was the worst I’ve ever had in a hotel. Unless you like soaking wet muffins, powdered eggs, sausages that look they didn’t pass quality control and bacon that looked like it was fished out of the bath water, then stay clear.

Overall though it was a reasonable hotel and would probably stay there again. Would definitely skip breakfast though!

First visit to beautiful Bournemouth & this hotel was a stone's throw from the buzzy town. We had booked 6 rooms on a Saturday night online only 2 weeks before. Had we booked directly through the hotel it would have cost a few hundred pounds more than booking it through Expedia.
The rooms were still very expensive at £130 each & this does not include breakfast or parking. A (pretty bad) full English is £15 whilst a poor continental selection is £10! Parking, wait for it, is £13 overnight in hotel car park. We found a car park in St Stephens Road (behind hotel, slightly further down road from hotel car park) for £8 for 24 hours but I'm sure if you walk further you can get a better deal. For the money, you do get a large room with the biggest TV I have ever seen (if you have time to watch it!). I did not see a temperature control in the rooms & they were very hot. Also, no information pack in the rooms which i find very helpful usually so had no clue what time breakfast or check-out was or nice places to eat in the area! The decor is standard (if a little dated) but there are grand parts of the hotel. We loved the relaxing lobby/bar area with comfy leather seats & gorgeous chandeliers. The swimming pool is great, small & warm with hot jacuzzi. Luckily I can report that the dinner is better than the breakfast! There was nothing special about the restaurant but some of the food was decent. I really enjoyed the smoked chicken & mango salad, as well as the passion fruit creme brûlée. The wine not so hot. Service was friendly but not what you would hope for. Some of our party got stuck in a lift for some time & staff were very apathetic about the whole thing. Overall, I'm sure there must be (or at least I hope there is!) some far better hotels in Bournemouth. But for a big group at quite short notice, it was not a bad choice. Just don't have too high expectations in line with the high price-tag, as they really don't equate.

The staff are polite, the hotel is in a great location (100 metres from the square) and it has an indoor pool. It does look a bit aged in areas but overall it is one of my favourite places in Bournemouth.

Obviously this hotel was very glamorous in its heyday. The curtains are all swagged and heavy, and the furniture is traditional. The garden areas are lovely. There is a smallish indoor pool with glass walls right by the garden - I'd rather not be gawped at by non-swimming guests so gave it a miss! My room was spacious and comfortable, and there are nice bathroom products.
It's a bit tired in places and some of the carpet definitely needs replacing! Some colleagues ate in the restaurant and said the evening meal was good. Breakfast was fine, though service a little too slow for those of us on business travel - a more relaxed pace for the holidaymakers! Overall, I'd return, so it can't be that bad!

we have just come back from our stay at the hotel it was a telegraph offer so we did get it at a cheaper rate , well what can i say the hotel staff were all very nice in the resturant the staff were spot on always pleased to help . The food which was included in our deal was breakfast and dinner we thought as in a deal would be ok but how wrong it was FANTASTIC really cooked well and tasted delicious , . The room was lovely except for it was cold and the windows rattled and blew a hurricane through !! I pust something into windows to stop rattling but the blind still moved with the draft, i could not get the rad working so went to reception where they promptly sent someone up to have a look but could not get it working so gave us 2 heaters which did the trick .but overall a lovely hotel , did not use the spa or pool but looked nice would love to stay again , also within a 5 min walk into main town / seafront but down a small hill .

Room Tip: our room was 121 and is at the front of the hotel which has street noise and there is a pub across s...
