“Nice surprise as did not know which hotel.”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

Have had a lovely stay at the Norfolk Royal .
we had 3 rooms all on the top floor all doubles as there were 5 of us.
I was the only one that has not been before and was surprised to see it so central.
The hotel looks old and feels very grand .
The staff were all excellent the food in the Hotel was very good(the only thing wrong was they had a lot of fish on the menu as i cant eat fish i was left with little choice of main meal) but that has to be the only thing i could find wrong with the food Breakfasts were very good and you could help your self as mush as you liked.

The rooms were all good but they were very warm for April but you could turn them down or off
The water was very hot (if you have children just watch them with the taps).

Would i go again yes i would .

Room Tip: rooms 322 with walk in shower .325 and 303 all top floor are all good all rooms have wifi.

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Norfolk Royale Hotel. The family room had bunk beds which delighted our two daughters and our bed and theirs were both very comfortable. The Foyer of the hotel feels grand and romantically old-fashioned, with fireplaces and sofas. The staff were very helpful with restaurant suggestions and any information. In fact they suggested the restaurant, La Strada (not the chain) which was absolutely fantastic Italian food. The hotel does get quite busy, and in-season it is probably hopping, as it was busy in March. The room was a bit hot, and when we opened the windows there was a bit of street noise, but we still enjoyed the room, especially for the extremely reasonable rate. The hotel has an art deco feel and is in a great location for exploring Bournemouth.

We spent two nights here and the hotel is centrally located and close to the beach. Some parts of the hotel are still quite old, the stairs are quite creaky and the left looks and feels very old.

The room was fine, it was a fair size for two adults and two toddlers and was quite modern, decent bathroom and tv.

We ordered afternoon tea and this was quite abysmal , the sandwiches looked like a 3 year old had put them together and some looked like they have been flattened out with a steam iron. The pastries were good but these looked like standard pastries you could get from any deli shop.

The stay generally was pleasant and the staff are fine.

We had a couple of nights and enjoyed the location. Our room was above the main entrance and came with a large enclosed veranda that had a few wicker chairs and table. We found it handy to sit and read in and have a coffee. As it was a midweek stay, little or no noise from the street but the potential is there. The bathroom was dated but clean with a good size rain shower head above the bath. The TV was old school, with a fuzzy line going across, not your LED flat screen you would have expected for a De luxe room. The room heating was a bit hit and miss - poor control so had to have the windows open even though freezing outside. A light sleeper will hear the lift as a slight background noise and the floor is a bit creaky.
The service was as good as any other hotel but could not find me a varse for some flowers, i couldn't understand that 4* would not have one or two available. In parts, in need of a refurb but the staff do make you feel welcome.
Good help yourself breakfast with all the usual trimmings.
Don't think we would stay if paying the full rate.

We had to go to Bournemouth to DJ at one of the clubs and were put up in this hotel for one night. Parking was simple, right outside and free. There was not many parking spaces out the front of the hotel but we got one (may have just been lucky) although I also believe they have an underground car park but we didnt have the need to find out about this.

Never been to Bournemouth and didnt look around the area but it is close to the centre as we got picked up to go to the club and we got to the club in less than 5 mins in the car, so good location.

The room was good, nice and spacious, perhaps a little dated. We had a ground floor room at the back of the hotel with a patio door straight into the gardens. There was a table and chairs out there also if you wanted a little sit down. Being able to go straight into garden was a nice touch.

We didnt really see the staff too much, we literally checked in, went out, came back late, got up and checked out once we were dressed in morning so we didnt have a chance to review this part of the hotel.

What I would say is a slight downside is that the corridors to the rooms were "eerie" They seem dingy and in real need of a spruce up. It doesnt strike you as you are walking through a 4 star hotel when on way to room, it feels cold and dark and you worry about the room that is going to greet you once you get there.

All in all if we had to go back to Bournemouth we would hesitate to stay here but it definitely needs a little bit of a spruce up.

Room Tip: Try to get a ground floor room at the back of the hotel, door straight into your seating area and th...

We were after somewhere central to Bournemouth and somewhere that was easy to get in and out of. The Norfolk Royale provided both of them with ease. From check in to check out the staff made our stay so easy and friendly. Location was perfect as was easy car parking and swimming. The front desk staff were excellent throughout and especially Charlotte. The kids loved the bunk beds...and me the bar :). Apart from Foyer a refurb will be good but then again you could say the same about me!

Room Tip: Room 126 was a really good size for four of us and bunk beds great, treading the squeaky floor to no...

We needed to visit a sick friend near Bournemouth, and hunted around for special offers for a one-night stay. In the end the Norfolk seemed to offer the best value overall. It's never going to set the world alight, and (as other reviewers have commented) badly needs a refurb here and there. However, the staff go out of their way to be helpful, and if you want to be within walking distance of the centre, shops etc (as opposed to strolling to the beach) the location is ideal.
Arriving early, we were firstly offered a 1st floor room in the main block: this smelt badly of damp, and reception switched us immediately to a much nicer one overlooking the garden/car park. Couldn't fault the second room, very nice.
There is an attractive little bar near reception, and the well-tended garden area must be pleasant in summer. Secure car parking is available at £13/night: a bit steep perhaps, but the 'going rate' in Bournemouth. Breakfast good if not spectacular. For a special rate (and for us), this hotel was good value: not sure if we'd feel the same if we'd paid the rack rate.

Room Tip: Ask for a garden-side room on the St Stephen's Road block.
