“Our Sea View Experience.”
Reviewed October 1, 2013

We stayed in the Cumberland on Thursday 26th September 2013. We live in Wiltshire and had not been to Bournemouth for 15 years so couldn't wait our break.
It was very exciting travelling down and when we located the hotel we could see the sea immediately. We parked in the car park behind the hotel which had spare spaces available. We then walked in to see a stunning reception area. We were greeted by a friendly receptionist and offered help with our luggage. We decided to make our own way up on the lift. Good job there was only the 2 of us it is very very small as I've seen in other reviews I read about the Cumberland. But we don't go away on our hols to spend time in lifts do we people??. The room itself was ok to nice the décor could do with a spruce up but the bed was nice and spacious and comfortable. Then we walked out onto our balcony WOW! .Stunning view. ( we stayed in the red room ).
The bathroom however was our only disappointment. It smelt a bit stale and wasn't the cleanest and the water would not run away in the sink ( think it was blocked ) shower wasn't very good either. We decided that night to stay in and have a 3 course meal. Lovely! well worth it. breakfast the following morning was also very nice although i'm not the biggest fan of doing my own toast?? The staff were however always very polite and attentive. So would we go back again? Yes we will next year. Thank you to all at the Cumberland. p.s. when returning home I have found the white door pass to our bedroom in my back pocket. Sorry. Adrian & Cheryl Brindle.

Room Tip: Go that extra bit more and get a room with a balcony. It IS WORTH IT.

I stayed here whilst on a golf holiday with 5 friends. Whilst I would agree with other reviewers that the decor & ambiance in the Cumberland is more like a 4 star than the typical 3 star hotel it does let itself down in some areas. On the positive side the public areas are very attractively decorated, this is in contrast to the areas above the ground floor. The corridors and bedrooms are tired with worn carpets. The decor is basic yellow emulsion on top of embossed paper. My single room was clean, but very small with very little storage space - what you would expect in a 3 star hotel.
Breakfast is very good with a wide range of cereals, fruit, and a cooked buffet option, but why do you have to queue up to make your own toast? There are plenty of staff on duty - but they don't seem to be effectively supervised. Getting coffee or tea delivered to the table takes a certain amount of arm waving, and having a second cup of coffee requires some patience. Americans familiar with "bottomless coffee" options will find this bizarre.

Dear Hand10,

Thank you for your review. Good comments regarding your stay, thank you.

Your comments have been noted. Toast making is adding to guests enjoying a more leisurely 'at your own pace' style of breakfast service. we do have two toasters at opposite ends, to restrict queuing.

We hope to welcome you back soon again.

Dear Brian, Lisa, Sean and the rest of your team.
A huge thank you for organising such a wonderful evening to mark our company's 25th anniversary. The Cumberland was our first choice when thinking of somewhere stunning to host the 120 guests we wanted to invite to join our celebrations. The service, food and entertainment were all fabulous and we have been inundated with compliments on the hotel and it's staff from many of those who attended.
Thank you once again from Hayley, Caroline and all at The Warmer Group Ltd.

Last weekend my wife and I wanted to visit Bournemouth for two days, our son recommended we try the Cumberland he said that he had stayed there for a couple of nights and thought it would be a good hotel for us to stay.
We booked direct through to their reception, the receptionist was very friendly and efficient, he e-mailed our confirmation back within seconds.
We arrived at 12.30 pm, as we were walking across the rear car park a kitchen porter spoke to us he said he hoped that we have a great stay at the hotel, we found the rest of the staff were just as courteous. The décor throughout the hotel was quite amazing sort of Art Deco.
The evening meal was excellent, 3 courses for £18 each, good value.
Every thing seemed very well organised.
Our sea view double room was spacious and comfortable, bed very comfy.
Very pleased with our stay, we will definitely return for another visit.

Room Tip: Book the double sea view rooms.

Just back from an overnight visit to Bournemouth and had an excellent stay at The Cumberland.
We had booked a last minute standard double and knew we would upgrade as it was our anniversary. Our original room was to the side and was small but smart. The room we took was called Brooklyn and was a fab room with balcony overlooking the sea. The only disappointment was lack of little bathroom goodies which i always look forward to. I think they would be a good investment for the better rooms. Also a box of tissues wouldn`t go amiss. The staff were friendly and efficient, we had a chipped mug in our room and this was replaced within 15 mins. I noticed on the way to the bar last night , console tables being polished, whilst at the bar someone was plumping up cushions and on leaving i noticed a decorator doing the rounds with a list of jobs to do so i don`t think they are being complacent at all. The public rooms are lovely and filled with stunning pieces of art deco , the bar where we had our delicious cocktails was smart and the Ventana dining room had very comfortable dining chairs, almost armchairs really. Our meal was excellent and the service spot on, breakfast was good although a smaller amount of say 2/3 different meats and cheeses would be a big improvement of the sliced cheddar and boiled ham on offer. A water cooler in reception would be nice as well
. With a hotel like this most of the rooms won`t be sea-view and are small but they are pretty cheap in my view so you pays your money and takes your choice. Considering you can use the sister hotels facilities which include a heated indoor pool i think this hotel is excellent value for money.

Room Tip: seaview all the way.....................the suites are huge.

So beautiful it has such a lovely ambiance I loved the decor the staff are excellent welcoming friendly and very helpful the food great as were the cocktails we were lucky and had fabulous weather on our four day break so to sit by the pool and have the Palm trees around you could have been any where the world . We had a terrace room with amazing balcony over looking the sea the room and bathroom were large and clean although a little tired and shabby with some bizarre patches of filler blobbed on the walls which is a shame I think the management should look into the decorators they choose to employ and after talking to other quests it seems there rooms were far worse than ours other than that I can't fault it as a 3 star hotel I would go back as I loved the whole concept but perhaps pay that bit extra and have a terraced room again oh and the room service was spot on fab hotel and a fab time

Room Tip: Sea view room terrace preferable

We stopped by this Hotel in the summer and liked to look of it, so having decided to have a night in Bournemouth, we booked this DB&B. We were a bit early and the car park was full, so we parked on the road opposite the Hotel and had our picnic lunch. The price was reasonable and reception was very efficient on our arrival. We were on the 4th floor and our room was excellent, side sea view. The decor of the room was in keeping with the public rooms and the bed was comfy. The bathroom was a tad jaded, but it was clean and all in all we had a good night.
We ate in the Red Room, which is fabulous as are all the public rooms. The decor is sumptuous and comfy and very true to the era that the Hotel was built. The meal was excellent, I had potted duck which was lovely and Loin of Pork, but I did not want the Sage Jus, so Chef sent me a gravy boat of Beef gravy which was very nice. The staff were very pleasant and chatty and could not do enough to be of help.
We will be back, as the swimming pool looks very inviting. A bit cold for us while we were there, but next year in the summer.
We look forward to returning before then though.
