We booked the Cumberland at short notice, we reserved a double room but when we arrived we upgraded to a double sea view (very pleased we did this) at a discounted rate. The downstairs areas of the hotel are nice art deco, and clean, infact whilst we were there we saw the boy who was cleaning the stairs later cleaning the pool area !. Reception staff were ok, sean and another tall chap with a beard were very good and helpful. Our room was on the small side but well worth the upgrade( if a bit pricey
for a three star) location and views excellent. It was clean if not a bit tired, the shower was useless so only able to use the bath. Bed linen clean but the duvet and pillows had seen better days. The pool area gets very crowded as it caters for three hotels, also there is a notice which says Residents only can use the pool, this is not the case as we were there for three days and saw several groups returning just for the day and people just turning up and booking the chill beds (the waiters only seem to cater for these) we did not have one waiter approach us whilst we were there asking if we needed a drink etc.infact it was quicker to get it yourself. Also people reserve the sunbeds as early as 7am and the management do not remove towels after 90 mins. When we arrived there was a party of non residents taking up 5 sunbeds . There should be a way of policing this so that residents get the beds and non residents have to sit elsewhere especially in the summer when its busy. The drinks are on the expensive side but a good choice. The food was good, breakfast very good and hot ! and the lunch and dinner we had was excellent if not expensive for a three star hotel, but it was very well presented and good quality.Overall I would say its a good hotel which needs a bit of a makeover especially the rooms which are expensive for what you get, but dont let this put you off .Be careful if you order anything up to the room there is a £3.50 charge each time for roomservice from the bar ! Over all a nice hotel if a bit tired, reception staff good, waiting staff need to be more alert.
