“Lousy customer service”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

Used this hotel for an overnight stop as part of a Newmarket Holidays trip to see a James Last concert.
41 one of us (pre-booked) arrived at 1.45 to be told no rooms would be available until 3pm Not a good start ! We were told that sandwiches and bar snacks were available. A surly (poor-English-speaking) barman (the only person behind the bar) eventually told me where to find a menu. (only 2 availble between 41 hungry people).
Surly (poor-English-speaking) receptionist was not able to find extra menus so was no help.

Ordered sandwiches and was then told that, " Chef has decided he/she doesn't want to make sandwiches today". Complaints to reception eventua;lly brought the manager who told chef to make sandwiches. What a shambles !!

Room was scruffy and tired. Ccurtains sagged between too few working sliders. Bath was stained, as was shower mat. Beds were clean and comfortable. Buffet breakfast was excellent which saved the rating from being a disaster

We had a twin room which was fairly large. It had two wardrobes and two chests of draws, which is unusual, so plenty of room for a longer stay. The room was clean and comfortable but in great need of updating. The decor was very tired, the sink was cracked and the double glazing had warped and you could see daylight through the seal so it didnt keep the noise of the traffic out. The TV looked like it belonged in the 1990's. Having said that the breakfast was excellent and the staff very polite.

Room Tip: Try and avoid rooms which are directly opposite the lifts because they can become noisy if the hotel...

Picked this hotel as a late cheapie on Expedia. Some Reviews suggest decor tired, but seems the chaps have just been round with the paint pots as it looked ok to me. Friendly enough welcome and full English breakfast buffet set us up for the day.£40 for twin room per night is v good value - probably an off peak price, but that's what I paid so I'm happy. Parking is £3 for the car park round the back as u need a token - free if u can get in the car park at the front... Not an ultra modern hotel - CRT TV in the room - but I'll be back.

We booked this hotel last minute when we decided to stay in Bournemouth for the night. We got an excellent deal, including breakfast. There is also lots of parking which had free spaces, even at midnight.

The hotel is very tired. It has been decorated in a similar way to the hotel in the shining and sadly does not appear to have received much attention since.

The rooms are spacious but very old fashioned, with a tiny box tv and dated furniture, some of which is broken. A window arm was also broken off the window so wouldn't close. However, this was handy as the room was very warm.

The cooked breakfast was very canteen-like and deep fried, but there was plenty of everything with lots of juices and cereal.

The bathroom had a bath and shower, and both were clean. The room overall was clean, with a large clean bed.

The service was fine. However we were charged a £2 fee to pay with a debit card which is excessive.

This hotel is large and has the potential to be a nice hotel. As it is, it's an old tired unloved building with rooms and parking.

Recommend if you are not here long and need a clean place to rest your head for a few hours (pass on the brekkie- you'll get it cheaper and nicer in a cafe) anything more than that, don't bother. Stick to the travelodge/ premier inn (sadly both fully booked when we were looking).

This hotel was not our first choice but rather forced on us by the Britannia Roundhouse not honouring our confirmed (and paid for) booking at that hotel and transferring us here. I was not impressed by the staff at the Roundhouse (the ones that could speak english that is!) but found the staff here at the Healthlands extremely helpful and polite! What a difference between the two hotels!! :)
The room itself left quite a lot to be desired - hotel management, please note, taking doors off standard wardrobes does not make them open-plan and modern! The view from the window overlooked an extension roof and the associated rubbish dumped on there. The drainpipe of the building outside our room was loose and leaking - possibly causing damp in other rooms below. The bed was clean and comfortable and we had a good nights sleep despite the thin walls between rooms.

Although having said all this, the housekeeping standards were great - the room was spotlessly clean so the staff obviously do what they can under the circumstances, but despite all their hard work, they will never succeed in making a silk purse out of a sows ear!
The buffet breakfast was excellent and the restaurant staff very helpful and polite. Generally speaking, there is nothing wrong with this hotel that a good refurbishment couldn't cure.
(Incidentally the voice in the lift is hilarious and made me laugh everytime we used the lift - it sounds like an extremely bored 'Holly' out of red Dward LOL)
We did not use the swimming pool nor the fitness centre so cannot comment on those.

We decided on a last minute break away, did not want to spend to much on accommodation so it was a bonus to find a hotel in a good location for £39 with breakfast. Easy to find and within walking distance to the towncentre.

On arrival we were given an upgrade which was a nice surprise. Staff very helpful. Hotel has seen better days and a bit tatty around the edge's but hey for the price would use again. Breakfast of a good standard.

We booked late and got a really good deal for a double room with breakfast. We didn't pay for parking, either. Room was clean and comfortable and the bed linen was all new, including pillows. The room was a tad chilly when we returned in the evening but there was an electric convector heater and it soon warmed up. Bath towels rather than bath sheets and the breakfast was fully self service but the food was plentiful, hot and freshly cooked - really good value! The hotel is a bit dated but is clean & comfortable and is ideally located, a couple of minutes' walk to the beach and a short stroll to the pier. We are attending a wedding in Bournemouth later in the year and have cancelled the hotel we had booked and booked in here again as it's better value; just hope we have another good experience!
