We arrived on Sunday 23rd December and as soon as we unpacked we ran the shower - the water came out dark brown, The water in the sink was just as bad. The receptionist came up and ran the taps for a few minutes and eventually the water ran clear.
Christmas eve lunch was described as a "finger buffet" - it consisted of ham and tomato or cheese and pickle sandwiches, mini sausage rolls and potatoe wedges.
The entertainment was either bingo or ballroom dancing, the bar closed at the latest 11.30 so we couldn't even see in Christmas with a drink.
Christmas day lunch (as were all meals) was self service canteen style. The turkey was processed, brussels soggy, no other veg except carrots, greasy mushy roast potatoes, boiled potatoes. No stuffing, parsnips, bread sauce, pigs in blankets. Desert was either pudding or profiteroles - the only decent course as the starter was a choice of leek and potatoe soup or tinned fruit cocktail.
Needless to say, although we were due to stay (and had paid for) until 27th, we left immediately after Christmas lunch.
P.S They even had the cheek to charge £3 per day to park in the hotel car park!!

We stoppped at The Heathlands on the 4th June for 3 days and i wrote a report on how dire the Hotel was and that i was trying to get a refund. Well, just to update my progress after 6 months. I have spent the last 6 months phoning, emailing, writing etc to the Manager that was, and Britannia directly. I also informed Tesco as we had used Clubcard vouchers for this holiday. i also referred to Trading Standards.
I have at last received a refund of £32.00 for the extras we had at the time from Britannia directly. Tescos have been superb in their determination to get a refund for me also. Thanks to Tesco i have had "points" i had used returned to my Clubcard.
I think that if i hadn't involved Tesco i would not have got anywhere with my claim. Britannia Head Office did not acknowledge a single letter that i sent by recorded delivery and The Heathlands Manager at the time was also extremely slow.
So just to say to anyone that has a complaint with the Hotel, Keep on at them and you may get a reply, but don't expect it any time soon!!!

It wasn't a bad hotel. Nice breakfast and the rooms were decent and the staff were friendly. Unfortunately we never got the TV to work and we did ask the reception but after 2 days of change they admitted that the back log was too much and the chances of the TV getting fix in our time there was highly unlikely. Us being in our 20ish, from what we could tell we were the youngest guest in the hotel. Not complaining we paid for what we got. Cheap price so wasn't expecting much more. But the rooms were extremely hot! Was hard to sleep in even with the windows open.

The rooms were clean and good bed and we just needed a place to sleep in.

We stayed at the Heathlands Hotel for a Blues weekend and had a great time listening to excellent bands. On arrival, we were unhappy with our room and were alocated an alternative room which was much better. We were lucky to arrive early enough for another room to be available. We did not have to pay for car parking as it was part of our package. We found the staff to be the main asset of this hotel. The hotel was understaffed, but they all tried to be as helpful as they could. The reception staff were always cheerful, as were the restaurant staff. There were queues a times in the restaurant (buffet service), but the food was regularly replenished and you could eat as much or as little as you liked. The hotel underestimated the bar sales and ran out of some wine and beer, but the bar staff again were excellent. We were told that the hotel is earmarked for refurbishment and this cannot happen soon enough. The Heathlands is close to the sea and the town centre, so it could have lot to offer

The only reason we were here was for a adults only blues music weekend, & had booked a superior room.On arrival booking in/reception was fine, and our room, 114 was massive with lots of storage, big windows & you could see the sea so a good start. Sadly, all was not as it seemed. The carpet was stained in places, the sofabed was broken & propped against the window (maybe so you wouldn't realise?) so couldn't be used as a sofa to watch TV without causing serious back problems & the heating didn't work all weekend! I contacted reception about the heating & the sofa & was told "oh we know about the sofa" & on questioning further found they had no intention of doing anything about replacing it! A warm air heater was fetched up on the Friday evening but it failed to work & the guy who brought it was aware. Later the next day we found it was the socket that didnt work so we tried the "heater" in a different socket but it only sent out cold air! A maintainence guy arrived @ 4pm on the Saturday afternoon (we had arrived 24 hours earlier) but couldn't do anything & was never seen again. We were never offered another room nor did anyone enquire whether we were warm enough. Good job we are the hardy sort!

As other reviewers have mentioned all meals are on a self service buffet basis & dinner is served between 6-7pm & 7-8pm which you have to decide upon when you arrive. You have to queue to get your food which in itself is fine but as all the food is on one island so even if you don't want a starter the queue is still the same one! The "salad" bar needs upgrading to include cooked meats, tomatoes, cucumber, grated cheese, lettuce & the like as none of these items were there! The main courses are basic & cooked to within an inch of their lives so you may feel hungry a lot of the time.unless you like your food that way.

We did not have to pay for parking at all & just had to get a token from reception in order to raise the barrier when we left. The staff were OK & were helpful where possible.

I emailed the hotel after we returned about all of the above, but as yet have not had a reply some 4-5 days later. I contacted them & the guy dealing with complaints only took over a week ago & he is still dealing with the complaints that his predecessor left (his assistant has also resigned - says it all) He has promised to respond to my email....

Apparently Britannia are meant to be throwing money at Heathlands - I hope this happens as it could be a lovely place if things get sorted properly soon. I would go back if I thought it had undergone improvements.
