Best Western Plus The Connaught Hotel
Ranked #5 of 66 Hotels in Bournemouth
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 15, 2013

The Connaught really looked after us and went above and beyond our expectations as we staged a conference and gala dinner there in October. The weather helped, but the staff were exceptional and couldn't do enough for us. The hotel itself is traditional but with enough modernity to make it a 21st Century hotel. The rooms are the only reason there is a mark lost as they are slightly outdated, but nice and clean overall. Would recommend it if going to Bournemouth for a conference as the service was superb.

This was our first stay at this hotel for my birthday treat. I had booked a superior room but got a free upgrade to a suite which was gorgeous ,even had our own balcony which was perfect as the weather was so warm. All of the reception staff were extremely welcoming and friendly as were the staff during breakfast, also housekeeping need a mention as the room was spotless. We didn't eat in during the evening as we ate late during the day having had a hefty breakfast. The hotel is a slight walk away from the centre and uphill. We have stayed in a number of Best Westerns including Cambridge and Kendal and again this one did not disappoint, will definitely stay again.

Arrived after a long journey on a busy Friday afternoon, and was so relieved to find that the hotel was everything we hoped for. Professional staff, beautifully decorated and the rooms immaculately clean. We had one problem the bathroom was cold and the radiator wasn't working within 10 mins of reporting to reception it was sorted.

Everything was just great. Best hotel in Bournemouth, I recon so.

Room Tip: We had the suite on the third floor, lovely and bright and sunny

We really enjoyed our stay here. Lovely hotel, excellent staff and accommodation.

The location is really good for Bournemouth, not right on the seafront so away from the noise and hustle during peak times, but only a few minutes walk from the beach, 8-10 to the pier and 5/10 minutes from the main town, less if you walk fast! There are also some lovely restaurants (Thai/Indian) nearby 1-2 minutes walk which I can also recommend.

The hotel was well presented and laid out. We stayed in the Rose Suite, which I can highly recommend if you have children, as they have managed to make the most of the space by creating a separate main bedroom and an adjoining lounge (with sofa bed) and with a proper dividing door; also fitted out with 2 televisions one in the lounge and one in the (main) bedroom, so the kids can wake up and watch TV without disturbing the parents.

The room itself was clean and decorated well. We took up room service on occasions and this was prompt and polite and everything was kindly catered for that we requested. I found all the staff in reception and the adjoining restaurants to be very pleasant and helpful.

Do be aware that in busy times the Car Park at the hotel can be full, both for the Connaught Main and the Connaught Lodge next door. We stayed over Bank Holiday weekend for 5 nights and on one night we couldn't park back in the hotel. Space is limited on the streets outside, however literally just 1 minute walk away around the "circle" (see the roads on Google maps) there is a large car park which was still quite empty during this season, and overnight/24hrs parking is £8 which is still reasonable and safe. However this just shows the popularity of the hotel at this time.

We would definitely try to get a room here again if we came back to Bournemouth rather than chance another.

Room Tip: Choose the Rose Suite if you have children as it's a larger room with separated lounge plus divi...

This was my second stay at this hotel. Overall a good experience. Nice clean pool and spa area. Outdated gym with poor equipment. We had a superior room on the third floor with balcony which was very nice although room a bit on the small side and bathroom tiny.

We were in room 50 which was a converted suite. The conversion had unfortunately not allowed for sound proofing between the bathrooms and as i mentioned on leaving, in the middle of the night I could have been in the bathroom with thank goodness my faceless neighbour in the next room. Rooms kept very clean by housekeeping, Breakfast of a good standard.

My daughter stayed in the lodge which although a bit scruffy had a good sized bedroom. She was very happy.

Its not The Ritz and its not The Ritz prices but it is a comfortable place to stay with reasonably obliging staff. I would return !

Many thanks for your review Clarissa and apologies for the "noisy" neighbour. It's a shame your daughter was booked into the Lodge as she might have enjoyed being near you and sharing the suite. Next time perhaps?

This was our third stay at this charming hotel and we had an executive room which was both comfortable and spacious. We had requested a bath and shower when booking the room however the room only had an en-suite shower.
The only other niggle was the WiFi dropping in and out, the duty manager was extremely apologetic and offered to find us an alternative room however we decided not to move.
The staff are a real asset to this hotel, nothing is to much trouble, they are attentive and very welcoming, making the stay a pleasant one.
The restaurant is an absolute gem with an excellent and varied menu. We had a superb meal as good as the last stay and highly recommend eating there.
The hotel is in easy walking distance of the seafront, park and town centre. We look forward to returning very soon.

My husband & I stayed 4 nights, returning home today. We had bed & breakfast, twin bedded room with balcony. Room was very clean, & as we were on the 3rd floor, the lift was great! All the staff were helpful, breakfasts were good, we ate in the nice bar area on 3 nights, light meals as we had eaten out in the day, all tasty & good value.

The swimming pool was a really good size, sauna & steam room excellent. Changing rooms, were clean & modern.

Room Tip: We had room 47, it was good, but, the walls are a bit thin...I could the guy's tv next door loud...
