This town is tough, it's tricky to find a good hotel in Bournemouth. It's not that the city is short of places to stay, it's just that overall Bournemouth hotels are a very mixed bag. There are dozens and dozens of utterly ghastly seedy run down sad places, and only a very few that are worth the stay. The Connaught is one of them.
The rooms are fresh (although there is that all-pervasive air freshener smell pumped in in industrial quantities) and the floor boards are kinda creaky and if you're unfortunate to be staying next door to a noisy room the sound proofing is non-existent but. ... that aside the Connaught's really not bad at all. the staff are joyful, reception is manned with adorable staff who have a twinkle in their eye and a genuinely welcoming smile.
Breakfast is presented by staff who actually seem to enjoy being on the early shift. The chap who served me was so pleased and proud of the breakfast buffet that he presented it with both arms flapping widely and a huge grin determined to make the day start with a bang. The room service is enormously efficient although the wifi is unreliable.
Get a room with a balcony, they have six and they're worth the little extra. Of all the choices, it's amongst the best in Bournemouth.
