“A GOOD BOURNEMOUTH CHOICE”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2012

This town is tough, it's tricky to find a good hotel in Bournemouth. It's not that the city is short of places to stay, it's just that overall Bournemouth hotels are a very mixed bag. There are dozens and dozens of utterly ghastly seedy run down sad places, and only a very few that are worth the stay. The Connaught is one of them.

The rooms are fresh (although there is that all-pervasive air freshener smell pumped in in industrial quantities) and the floor boards are kinda creaky and if you're unfortunate to be staying next door to a noisy room the sound proofing is non-existent but. ... that aside the Connaught's really not bad at all. the staff are joyful, reception is manned with adorable staff who have a twinkle in their eye and a genuinely welcoming smile.

Breakfast is presented by staff who actually seem to enjoy being on the early shift. The chap who served me was so pleased and proud of the breakfast buffet that he presented it with both arms flapping widely and a huge grin determined to make the day start with a bang. The room service is enormously efficient although the wifi is unreliable.

Get a room with a balcony, they have six and they're worth the little extra. Of all the choices, it's amongst the best in Bournemouth.

A great 5 star review BoywithKite, thank you. Our team of boys and girls are our greatest asset and truly make the difference between an average stay and a great stay. Delighted you enjoyed your visit - apologies about the WiFi which can vary according to the amount of traffic during the day but in general is pretty well received by all our Guests and of course it is free!!!

Best wishes

We booked a room with a balcony and was slightly disappointed due to many cigarette ends left there and lots of cobwebs. We were positioned overlooking a road junction after requesting a room with a view of the back.
The food was good - Nick and the restaurant staff were great - exceptional service. Friends joined us for dinner one night and we were really spoiled. Breakfast could have done with a little variation - the same hot food every day. I would have appreciated some alternative fresh fruit ie. melon or pineapple - the only savailable were grapefruit and prunes.
The pool is basic - no frills, very plain.
The bar staff were good.
The room was noisy - thin walls with noisy door latches. All our 'neighbours' seemed to get up at 6.30 presumably for a swim which disturbed us every day.
Expected better after reading reviews though enjoyed a 6 night stay with fabulous weather.
Parking was not a problem.

Room Tip: Select a room with a view over the back of the hotel.

Many thanks for your review Escaper and delighted you enjoyed your stay overall and in particular, our Maitre d' and his team were pleased to be mentioned in despatches. My apologies for the state of your balcony, sometimes overlooked during periods of bad weather, but which I understand was dealt with immediately.

Best wishes and thank you again

My husband and I (together with 6 other friends) returned yesterday from a 3day break at this lovely hotel and magnificient food. The Staff were so efficient and we all received such
excellent service and kindness. The food in the Blake restaurant was fantastic and as the men
in our party all went to school together and are now pensioners, who also don't meet too often, the conversation and laughter was a little excitable at times and hope we did not offend the other guests. The beds were so comfortable and facilities of tea and coffee was very welcome. Really enjoyed the beautiful relaxation in the pool after a good day out. We would certainly like to return at some later date.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the garden towards the Connaught Lodge were quiet and we did not experience any n...

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon in an executive suite. The bed was so comfortable we found out what the brand was a bought the same, it was that good. The customer service was exemplary, especially the staff in Blake's restaurant which is within the hotel. The breakfast was so well done, with the options ranging from full english to croissants, pastries, cereal etc. Full use of the spa was a real bonus, so we took advantage of the pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna (but not the gym as we were there to relax). Would highly recommend this hotel.

I stayed for a weekend for a business conference. The staff are extremely attentive, pleasant but not OTT, and want to ensure you have the best of stays. Room clean, good bathroom, comfortable bed, flat screen TV, tea, coffee etc., and complimentary still and sparkling water. The first night we all dined in the restaurant, the food was excellent, considering they were also catering for a private function in another room, the chef ensured all our three courses were served with no delay and the food was well presented, tasty and enjoyable. The second night we had a private function with a prechosen menu, again the food was served promptly and was well cooked. Breakfast was extremely plentiful, again with attentive staff to ensure no one had any problems. Excellent service!!!!There is a gym, sauna and swimming pool (I did not use these facilities but several of our party did and said it was all very good). All in all I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel as a good way to enjoy Bournemouth.

Room Tip: Maybe have a room on the second or third floor if there is a function being held in the hotel.

I have stayed here a few times as there are a number of good factors:-location, parking, service, breakfast, pool and gym facilities, rooms and cleanliness. The provisos are that you are not in the annexe next door (which is inconvenient for the hotel's main services/facilities), that you get a reasonable rate and if you arrive late it can be difficult to park. Otherwise it's one of my preferred places in Bournemouth.

Many thanks for you excellent review Shannah. To avoid any confusion for Guests, each hotel is served by its own website so it's not possible for anyone booking and wanting to stay in the Best Western Connaught Hotel to be accommodated in The Lodge and vice versa. I should also add that the Lodge, on average, is £12/15 per night cheaper than The Connaught Hotel which factors in the inconvenience.

Best wishes and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
