Just returned home from our second stay at The Carlton. We stayed there by chance two years ago and loved it, so thought we would go back for 3 nights as an Easter getaway. We paid £122 per night through LateRooms. When we arrived we were upgraded to a sea view room as the hotel was not busy. The room, on the first floor, was amazing with beautiful high ceilings and a fantastic bathroom. Unfortunately it was right above the bar and the music was quite loud through the floor until late at night. The lounge below was also being renovated so we were woken up early by the noise. However, the reception staff were very obliging and quickly moved us up to the third floor for the rest of our stay, to another beautiful room with an even better view and a private balcony. The only problem was that it had a slightly damp smell when you first entered the room - probably because the bathrooms don't have extractor fans. I agree that the TVs need updating and the bathrooms could do with refreshing here and there, but overall we love the grandeur and classic style of the place. We had a lovely breakfast every morning and dinner one evening, which had definitely improved since our first visit, particularly the outstanding service. The Latvian waitress with the Scottish accent (sorry, forgotten her name!) was especially efficient and friendly. The...Just returned home from our second stay at The Carlton. Sadly, we had to go to the Highview for afternoon tea - why is The Carlton not offering this in its gorgeous restaurant?More
