Amazed at the quality and quantity of the Roast Beef in the Sunday lunch. Expected two ultra thin wafers like many budget carveries but got almost too much to eat and very tender. Great value meal and drink deal. Not the most inspiring decor or furnishings but at least you know what to expect at a Wetherspoons!

At first glance, you probably wouldn't want to eat here. There are usually an 'interesting' selection of characters smoking directly outside the front door, and it does seem to be populated by (without putting too fine a point on it) professional Boscombe drinkers. Rough and ready would probably be a reasonably polite description.

The pub itself is not desperately attractive - cleanliness equals pretty much any other cheap town centre pub. The beer is cheap & it's a bit dingy, but there are plenty of tables, and you can tuck yourself away in one of several booths if you want some privacy.

Where this place scores is the food. It's a standard Wetherspoons menu so no real surprises, but the chef excels at turning basic pub food into a proper treat. I've eaten here more than a handful of times and every meal as been absolutely lovely. You can get the same food in several other Wetherspoon's pubs around the town but it's always far, far better cooked here.

My last meal was a 14oz steak and it was (without exaggerating) the best steak I've had at a restaurant, let alone a pub. Even the burgers are well beyond what you'd expect, or even what you get in sister pub Moon on the Square.

A good old fashioned pub, with surprisingly good food.

The usual Wetherspoons package - reasonable prices, especially for their meal & drink deals.

The food is good with options for light lunches as well as larger meals. It gets busy but the staff cope and there is a bar upstairs that most people do not find.

Like all Wetherspoons houses, it reflects the local population, in all its complexity - early morning boozers, loud blokes at the bar, mums with prams, fixers, pensioners out for a cheap lunch. Go to the Wetherspoons in Wimborne, and you'll be surprised at its sedateness. Not here!

Having said that, the place is well managed; there is rarely disorder (contrast the bar next door which had police officers crawling around all over the place today). There is usually a good range of cask ales, well-kept and at excellent prices. Food comes from the standard Wetherspoons menu, and can be excellent value. Today I had the afternoon special meal - fish, chips, peas and a pint for £5! OK, the peas were undercooked, and the chips %100 processed, but that's mass catering out of the freezer.

Other items are variable. Some deals are also excellent value - Sunday dinner, or curry night; others, not so good.
