“An all year-round walk for the whole family”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

Lovely, any time of the year, family-friendly walk with great scenery. The majority of the path is suitable for bikes, buggies and scooters and there is a shuttle 'Noddy' train that runs between the car park and the beach. We love the rows of colourful beach huts situated on the Mudeford sandbank and the Beach House cafe is excellent.

“Great walk, cycle or paddle”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

Hengistbury Head offers superb views from all angles, great for walks cycling fishing and paddling. On a spring tide there's a race off the southern end that makes for interesting water. The sand banks provide surf over the bar in a S or SW. This is a relatively cut off spit close to Christchurch with a quieter beach.

“A refreshing walking experience.”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

On a beautiful day the 6km walk from car park to Hengistbury Head & back is so popular that it may be crowded with couples, families and dog-lovers enjoying the outdoors.
Paid parking at "The Hungry Hiker" Restaurant is limited so we usually park near Tuckton Gardens to avoid restrictions, queues and disappointment. On one occasion it was so busy that we ended up having lunch at "The Spyglass & Kettle" in Southbourne after our walk! However on such a beautiful, clear day it was well worth the extra distance.
With stunning views from the top overlooking the sea toward Highcliffe, Old Harry's Rocks, even taking in the Isle of Wight, its a good idea to take binoculars and your camera; you will want to stop along the way to enjoy vistas over Christchurch, Mudeford Beach with its colourful beach huts & Mudeford Quay.
For those who have limited fitness, you can pick up the "Noddy" train that meanders its way back toward the Car park. We always allow at least 90 minutes for the walk. Its worth setting aside a half a day's outing so you can enjoy refreshments at the tearoom before returning home.

“The wind in your hair.”
Reviewed March 29, 2013

Hengisbury Head was frequented by our Stone Age ancestors, who left evidence of their visits. This is one of the locales that is popular with everyone in the county, as well as the countless visitors that descend throughout the season.
I was fascinated to learn that Harry Gordon Selfridge planned to build the larget castle in Europe on this site. He is buried nearby, and I intend to visit his grave this summer.
