“Mediocre overpriced food served by rude staff”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 25, 2011

Like most of the recent reviews posted I would also say that the quality of food has deteriorated and service become terrible. It's a shame because the seafront location is superb, however another bad experience last night will definitely make it my last.

“Poor service and the restaurant couldn't care less”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 22, 2011

After a lovely family day on the beach in some rare sunshine, we were all looking forward to a meal in Vesuvio. We did as requested -" Come back in 30 minutes", and accepted yet another long wait- the restaurant was very busy- before being shown to a table. Twenty minutes later, we had to ask the manager to provide some drinks, but were singularly unhappy to have to wait a further hour for our food. Only the fact that we had two hungry children prevented us from giving up altogether. The excuse for our long wait was that we had ordered pizzas- in an Italian restaurant! Food quality was acceptable, but being charged an extra £1.25 for a spoonful of tuna on one of the children's pizza was decidedly not good value. We won't return, but if you do want to stay on the beach, try to go early or late when you might receive better attention. We felt that with beach trade, the restaurant wasn't worried about customer service.

“Just awful - walk just a bit further in any direction for something much better.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 14, 2010

Went for a walk along the beach today and decided to stop for coffee and cake, we walked in and asked for a table and were escorted to the back despite the place being quiet and plenty of seats with seaviews available.
No menus on the table and none offered so choosing was guess work - hard to get anyone's eye to order and there were many more staff than customers. Finally ordered from a grumpy waitress then without much delay (the only good point) our drinks and food arrived, at which point the waiter told us the cost and stood waiting for us to pay before we'd even eaten a mouthful. If this was a fast food place then fair enough, but we were the only ones singled out like this. I asked if i could pay after eating and the waiter mooched off and we had trouble getting any further service.
So, after eating we went to the bar to pay and even though many waiters, waitresses and hosts were stood about we still couldn't catch anyone's eye. Eventually we found someone so we could ask to pay and they served another customer first then printed off our bill and disappeared - we still couldn't pay. Having to stand around while you feel all the staff are looking down on you does not inspire good humour. We don't smell, our clothes are presentable, what was their problem?
The cost was exorbitant for what we got and the service was just awful.

“Great restaurant for families”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2010

This restaurant is right on the beach at Alum Chine. The staff are really friendly with the children and the food is pretty good too. The massive plus point though is that you have a beautiful beach at the front and a fab kids play park at the back!!

“Always excellent food, and a great view.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2010

Went with my boyfriend and sat in the main restaurant. We skipped starters and went straight for the mains. I had a sirloin steak - one of the best I've ever had. The cut of meat was lovely, perfectly cooked and seasoned, and melt in the mouth. My boyfriend had the pollo vesuvio which was equally as impressive. The food here is simply delicious and well priced for the generous portions and quality. The decor leaves somewhat to be desired and could use some updating to make the restaurant outstanding, but the food more than makes up for it, and you couldn't ask for a better view.
We have in the past sampled the pizzas and pastas which are also yummy, but I would definitely return for the steak again or the pollo vesuvio.
The staff are efficient and don't fuss over you too much which I prefer. Definitely my favourite restaurant in Bournemouth.
