Premier Inn Bournemouth Central Hotel

This must be one of the best Premier Inn hotels in the UK. Well trained and polite staff. Convenient car park round the back of the hotel with direct access into hotel reception area. The hotel suggests it's had a history of being something more exclusive, I think it was in the Hilton group at one stage. Some of the features in reception and the first floor bar are very art deco.

We had a good 4 night stay with close access to the lovely park, beach and shops. It did help that we had 3 days of sunny weather and temperatures above 25c. The hotel is located on Westover road which has cinemas, bars, restaurants and some very exclusive looking shops. Would stay again without any hesitation.

Room Tip: arrive before 2. pm. and ask for sea view balcony room

As avid readers and contributors of trip advisor we felt we really had made the right choice and expectations based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews for Premier Inn, Bournemouth Central, ensured satisfaction guaranteed. Alas, we were sadly dissapointed. However, we want to make very clear that the staff we encountered were exceptional. They acknowledged and accepted the problems we advised and showed good customer relations. However, this is trip advisor and, as such we are to give an honest and fair review.

What went wrong..?
Car park
on arrival, ticket machine not working. This resulted in some element of confusion to what should have been a straightforward and calm arrival. As we were told check in could not be before 2pm we arrived shortly after 2pm. I left my partner in the car to process the check in and ask about the carpark. Duty Manager, Matthew was aware of the carpark fault and very hands on trying to sort the carpark access out. Partner parked, I checked in ok but told no seaview rooms as the occupants for these rooms checked in the day before. Dissapointed.

Room
very small. We had only one neighbour on the opposite side to us, as Matthew advised whilst allocating the room, but our dissapointment of the room size overrode the promise and delivery of quiet. The decor contempoary, modern and very clean. Leak stain on the ceiling, extractor fans and rear building views was the ying to the seaview yang. Tip of the sea could be seen but it was a tantalising taster of the spectacular view undoubtably missed. Bed quite small to what we're used to. I slept ok but my partner didn't - bed did not agree with him and temperature of room hot without airconditioning and too cold with... we felt a bit like Goldilocks. Brought our own pillows as have had bad necks from hotel pillows before. Bedding clean, crisp and good. Shower leaked over the floor but rare to find a hotel shower that doesn't. Bathroom very clean, modern but like the room quite small.

Restaurant
lovely modern decor and all well presented. We booked dinner and breakfast deals.
Day 1 evening meal 1 hour 50 mins from starter to desert - a very long time for a non-complicated set deal menu. My steak was too dry and chewy (Succulent and best medium to rare) said the menu I looked on closer reflection once ordered but was indeed rare -medium in parts and contrary to my well done request so I left half of it. Three requests for a glass of water missed and in the end my partenr left the dinner table and got it from the bar. The overall lengthy wait meant we missed the carnival concert in the gardens which we were keen to catch and enjoy a balmy summer evening of live performances.. we caught the last encore and that was it.

Next morning breakfast, Full array of traditional full english which we're partial to on a short break. I was dubious of the sausages on offer and ordered cooked to order vegetarian option (although I'm not a vegetarian I'm always wary of processed meats) My partner, however is not, and tucked into the luke warm full english - whilst I waited for the veggie option sausages... Wait ages for veggie sausages and, like buses, double the amount you order turn up. My partner ate on his own and so did I.. not together.

At lunchtime the dubious meaty sausages returned in the form of diarrhea accompanied with the usual painful symptoms. I was ok thanks to my reservations and suspicions which fell on my partner's deaf ears. Our plans of the New Forest bus tour were abolished and exchanged for a local aquatic visit and a coastal walk - with the confidence of public and our own hotel room toliet nearby. Thankfully, by the evening, he felt well enough to attempt the second pre booked meal deal evening meal. Learning our lesson from the day before we gave our full orders in one go and booked earler to avoid the busy time the restaurant struggled with the night before. We can't go wrong we thought. Unfortunately, my partner's chicken goujons starter came with human hair so this course was abolished, other courses were without issue but the catalogue of traumas had already become too much and this was the last we ate in the hotel restaurant and cancelled any further bookings. My partner's night's sleep was uncomfortable due to the illness.

Apart from a cheese and tomatoe sandwich, shortly after arrival in Bournemouth from chain of well known bakers, my partner had not ate anywhere else apart from the hotel.

Premier Inn refunded all food and apologised profusely. However, they mis-calculated one of the meal bookings and we returned to reception and had this rectified with more apologies and a final refund.

Reception suggested an alternative cafe for breakfast Champs de Delice which was lovely. Hot and hearty full english well cooked and caused no illness or issues.
I had cheese and ham croissants cooked to perfection and filter coffee. Newspapers accompanied our breakfasts on the remaining two mornings. Hot and tasty Chinese takeaway (Mandarin Chinese restaurant) picnic in the Bournemouth gardens was our final evening meal listening to another concert which we happily didn't miss due to slow and late dinner service - like our first evening.

Other issues was the larger out of order lift 2out of 3 days The famailies and disabled must have been very inconvenienced whilst this was out of order as the other lift was obviously an original and, like our room, was very small.

With regards to the advice sea view rooms cannot be requested - you get what you're given. Whilst waiting for the only aforemenetioned working lift we engaged in conversation with another guest, interested to hear her experience of the hotel - the mature lady who was in a party of 12, who's son-in- law had "charmed" reception into giving all in the party a seaview room and "did a deal". They arrived at 12 noon in time to ensure allocation of said rooms and were very pleased with the hotel and stay. Whether this party had pre-booked or not, we're not sure but clearly there is an inconsistency in the policy somewhere as it was made very clear to me you get what is available/given only and no requests can be given/upheld. Arriving early is not encouraged and doesn't give any edge to room allocation I was told.

From the many positive reviews on here for Bournemouth Central our lengthy and regrettable review is unusual. Vast majority are very happy and satisfied with what is offered and given in the form of service, quality and value. For us, however, the problems we had are not typical. We acknowledge this and the staff also expressed their contrite feelings with a compliment slip in our room saying they try very hard to get things right but on this occassion failed to do so. This accompanied a bottle of wine and Celebration chocolates of which we thanked them for. We really wanted to love Premier inn, Bournemouth Central and as this was our first experience of the Premier Inn chain we were disappointed. My Partner had dreadful time especially due to his illness and uncomfortable nights sleep.

Reception and bar Staff were very friendly, professional and helpful, restaurant service was below par (2 stars are for them) but thanks to the Premier Inn policies offered non confrontational and no quibble refunds. Location was brilliant and the rates are competitive - however, with the room rate the same for sea view as the non sea view and much smaller rooms this can cause some envious resentment.

Free parking was issued as a last complimentry recompense.
We waved Bournemouth au revoir and Premier Inn, Bournemouth Central goodbye.

Room Tip: Unless you're allocated a sea view room be prepared for disappointment.

We recently stayed in the hotel with our 2 small children aged 8 and 2. We had family staying in the hotel at the same time who also had 2 small children. Both rooms were beautiful, clean, great views. The staff as a whole were very helpful and polite. The hotel is a nice 5 min walk from beach and park and shopping centre etc. I would give this holiday 10 out of 10 had it not been for the restaurant manager called george. On the first nite in hotel we went to restaurant to eat. we had 2 babies with our party aged 2 and 1 years old and obviously they were making a small amount of noise as ANY small child would. And i dont mean screaming i mean a noise you would expect from babies. But "GEORGE" actually had the nerve to ask our children to keep the noise down. A 1 and 2 year old child. We let this go but whenever he walked past after this he would look at the children and put his finger to his lips to warn to be quiet. We were very angry and even the other restaurant staff looked embarrased by his behaviour and were shaking their head at him when he was walking away. He did not understand children at all and to be honest should not be in charge of the restaurant when he clearly doesnt have any people skills. If the restaurant is not child and family friendly it should say so. Great hotel, great holiday, nice staff with the exception of one silly young man with no children skills at all.

Like a previous reviewer we were disappointed not to get a room with a balcony, but it does seem to be the luck of the draw. My (90 year old) mum and I had a 'sea view' - we looked over the theatre and could see the sea and a bit of the coastline and it was good. My mum was concerned that we were staying in a Premier Inn; she equates it with a cheap stopover but she was very impressed. The staff were friendly, the rooms and hotel in general were very clean. But it was the ease of access to the pier, the gardens and the shops that was impressive. A very good experience.

Room Tip: Check in as early as you can to stand a chance of getting a room with a balcony or at the very least...

Great hotel and location, and I understand that some people get a great deal, probably depending on when you book. But, we had the frustration of finding out at check-in that all the large sea view rooms with balconies that everybody seems to rave about had all gone. So we paid over £100 p/n for a much smaller room than expected. Probably our fault for checking in at 6pm on a Saturday in July. I'd probably stay again but book further in advance and definitely check in as early as possible. Breakfast was very good!

Room Tip: Check in early, early, early!
