Owner description: Totnes Museum is now open for 2018. This year we have three new exhibitions. We look forward to welcoming you to the Museum. The Totnes Elizabethan House Museum is a great way to spend a day out in Totnes, whatever the weather outside! What will you want to see? Our resident ghost? Our Elizabethan Herb garden? Our medieval kitchen? Our collection of medicines from the middle ages? Our spiral staircase made from a ship's mast? Or is it Totnes' illustrious son, Charles Babbage, who invented the first mechanical computer, whatever your interest in history is the Totnes Museum is a fascinating place to spend of few hours of your time.

I've visited here a few times as it is free to those who live in the Totnes area and only a £1 or so for tourists. I usually pay the entry fee as it's a great museum. Feels like you've been put into a time machine when you go in! It really is great. I especially liked seeing the pharmacy and the old medicines and medicinal bottles. A lovely treasure in the middle of the high street.

I visited the Elizabethan Museum in Totnes for the first time, and what a nice surprise it was. It is easy to walk past it and not realise it is there, but once inside, it is a gem of a museum. It is like stepping back in history to another time, with various artifacts on display from different periods, and although mostly a local museum, it gives you an insight into what life was like at various times. The herb garden is well worth seeing, and although quite small, it is a pleasant place to sit and relax for a short time. There is a small entrance fee to the museum, but well worth the experiance.

Delightfully wacky - this is meant to be 'Elizabethan' but includes everything from the Jubilee, to Charles Babbage. But that's all a good thing - there is real local passion behind this museum which really shows.
