“Hidden gem”

I mean it when I say hidden. Very hard to find but worth the effort. Took my one year old along with my parents and everyone had an amazing time. The Pygmy goats stole the show. Staff are wonderful, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Will be coming back every year.

“A brilliant day out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2012

An excellent small breeds farm with a great variety of friendly animals to stroke and feed. The site is well laid out and accessible, with an excellent cafe and is situated right next to the station to Buckfastleigh. The staff are all friendly and helpful and made the day a real pleasure.

“Great farm and cafe... unless you're potty training...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 9, 2012

We had a great day at the farm with my toddler and newborn baby, a little treat for my 2 and a half year old as he loves the steam train (which we travelled on from Buckfastleigh), the lovely animals on the cute farm, and the gorgeous cakes in the cafe. It all went sour when my little boy was desperate for the loo - there isn't a toilet at the cafe or farm, you have to use the one at the train station - and unfortunately we couldn't access them as the safety gates were across to allow a train to exit the station. My husband therefore took our son round the back of the cafe to use his travel potty - noone one out there as it was raining - and a staff member came out and told him in no uncertain terms to stop as he couldn't use the potty there. Cue crying toddler, enraged husband and a ruined day out. And a toddler too scared to ask for the toilet on the way home after 'daddy being told off'. I am aware of 'potty etiquette' but this was a 'number 1' in an empty outdoor area, with the intention of avoiding him wetting himself in the cafe as we waited to get across to the station. Or should we have let him stand in the pouring rain and let him do it instead? I am really, really disappointed and have no intention of ever going back. Shame as it is actually a lovely place. Just use the loo before you go.

“A wonderful day out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2012

Visited Totness rare breeds farm today with young children. Very well run, tame animals so that the children could be very hands on. Really enjoyed the pigmy goats and owls. The cafe was excellent. An all round good day out, bought the ticket for the train ride and otter experience in one with the Rare Breeds Farm which we felt was good value.

Have been here many times with family and children. It's really lovely, quite quirky in many respects and it's obvious that the owners and staff really love their farm and what they're doing. Small animals eg goats and guinea pigs that small children can hold and feed. The staff are fantastic and always on hand to offer help or advice. Lovely little cafe where you can sit outside and wave to the steam trains.
