we stayed at the four season guest house (recommended!!!) and Albert Inn is just by. that was our first time in an English pub. Rim the barman was very friendly, he gave us some ciders to try and even peanuts and something else to try on the house...
we felt welcomed and comfortable.

If you are looking for a very English pub it is a place good for you! When I stayed in totnes I went there a lot times, and everytime I found nice and friendly people , lovely atmosphere, very good live music and kindness both the miss and the mister under beer's counter . I have never eaten there ... But the look and the smell of their dish was good !

Looks a bit quirky and not overly appealing externally, but inside has plenty of character, also is rather a Tardis with a cosy locals bar at front which opens up, also another behind and at the rear a garden with pleasing open views over the town and river ideal for meals in the summer when we visited.

We had a warm welcome and had no complaints about the quantity and quality of the food we had (steaks) which was also very reasonably priced. There was also a good choice of ales and the Pub has its own micro-brewery.

All in all worth a visit and as we did ideal after a stroll along the river to get up an appetite.

We were just walking by and it struck our fancy. Wish we had gone there a few more times. The prices are very reasonable, (considering) and the food is good fare without any fancy-smanchy weird spices that will keep you from traveling... Well worth a visit.

I ate at the Albert because it is close to my apartment and because I know that the food they serve is amazingly good value always.

But this was on a different planet. An 8oz rump steak, cooked rare and absolutely delicious. They buy their meat from the butcher opposite and the quality is immediately apparent with the first cut. Nice and pink, juicy and tender to bite. You could easily pay £18 for the exactly the same thing in some of the swept up diners around the South Hams. It was fabulous and a credit to the Chef/Patron/Landlord/Chief Brewer/Chief Bottle washer and Darts expert, Giles.
