We took a short break over the August bank holiday and stumbled over this treasure. The staff were friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. Kate had arranged our parking ticket so we could park in the relevant car parks. The balcony rooms are what to go for, the views are amazing, we sat outside and had our drinks before we got ready to out for the evening. Tea and coffee facilities are provided. The room was clean and functional. The location is great, you can do as much or as little as you want. The breakfast menu is plentiful and delicious. A definite recommended stay!

Room Tip: The room with a balcony is recommended.

My wife and I booked a three day stay at the Downs over the bank holiday. Being dog friendly we took the opportunity to bring our wheaten terrier with us, and it was her 4th birthday so any excuse!

Kate and Ed are professional, polite and helpful owners. She was at pains to explain exactly that our room (the last sea view room available) was a bit smaller than others. I thought this was very fair of her and consequently there were no surprises or issues.

The room was perfectly fine with a balcony affording fantastic views across the downs and out to sea.

Being able to accommodate our dog was a bonus – we had breakfast in the bar area so our dog could sit with us.

The breakfasts are particularly good – the full English is great.

The Downs has a very informal atmosphere which is nice.

The free wifi was pretty good.

Although there is no parking ,they are part of a scheme that allows you to purchase a parking pass for £2.50 per day.You then park directly behind the hotel and can use the parking pass at any municipal car parking area - We used it for a whole day at Goodrington Sands - great value!

Finally, Kate and Ed are supported by a great team of really conscientious young girls. Their work ethic and customer focus was great to see.

The actual downs which are a few steps from the hotel are great for early morning and evening dog walks.

We would have no hesitation at all in recommending this place. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves

we hadnt visited babbacombe for ten years so was really happy to find a warm and welcoming hotel that didnt disapoint, the breakfast were brilliant plenty of choice and with sea views it was really nice. the evening meals had lots of choice, can recomend the fish pie.
the room was on the second floor with stunning views and the bed so very comfortable, everything we needed was there, we are certainly going to visit again!

Room Tip: definatly one with a view ! we was on second floor ok if you don.t mind the stairs (but there is a stairlift if needed)

We have just returned home from two superb weeks at the Downs. This was our forth year in a row and we now consider this a home from home,so much so we have already booked for next year.
Our balcony room is very comfortable, with stunning views over Lyme Bay.The food is delicious and both breakfast and dinner have a wide choice to suit all tastes. The hotel is spotless.
Kate & Ed the owners are the perfect mine hosts and nothing is to much trouble. They and their staff go out of their way to cater for your every whim. With plenty of places to visit and enjoy close at hand The Downs is the perfect base to explore Torbay.
All that is left to say is - ROLL ON NEXT YEAR.

Room Tip: Balcony rooms all have stunning sea views.
