Description: The Elephant is a bright, informal restaurant which overlooks the beautiful Torbay harbour. It was the first restaurant in Torquay to be awarded a Michelin star which it maintains today. We aim to source all our ingredients locally and sustainably, many from our dedicated farm in Brixham. Please feel free to ask our front of house team about anything you are unsure of. Run by chef proprietor, Simon Hulstone and his wife Katy. Food is cooked by a talented team of chefs and served by friendly, professional team of staff. Diners can enjoy a delicious à la carte menu and set menus featuring local and sustainable fish, meat and vegetables, sourced from the surrounding area, in an informal and attractive setting. For an extra special culinary treat opt for the tasting menu. Expect friendly and knowledegable service without the formalities. All our dishes change regularly depending on which locally grown and reared (many sourced from our dedicated farm) ingredients are at their best.

“Excellant lunch”

We try & visit the Elephant when ever we are in Torquay. We had the tasting menu (under a promotion) together with the tasting wine offering. It was excellent - especially the lobster bisque, which is a dish that neither of us would have normally chosen.

“Lovely evening”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

Enjoyed the taster menu at The Elephant. From start to finish it was a lovely experience. We were seated upstairs and although we didn't have a window seat our table was lit by a gorgeous elephant lamp!! We were served by polite, courteous staff who were able to engage eloquently yet have a giggle. Jason ( I think he was Jason....) served us our wine and told us about it - he is definitely a major plus point to the restaurant. He is friendly and smiley and engaged us easily. The food was very good indeed and presented beautifully, we opted for the wine to compliment each course which was great! I love wine but don't often have the opportunity to learn about which wine matches a particular food. Thanks guys for a great evening, we hope to be back

“Tasty food”
Reviewed March 13, 2013

Had a very good meal here last Friday night. We had bought travelzoo vouchers in October and finally redeemed them on The Brasserie's taster menu. We opted to add a cheese course and to go with matching wines (for a supplement) which we enjoyed thoroughly.

The dining room is spacious with tables not too close to one another, and the staff were friendly and efficient. A great place to go for a treat.

“Worth the extra.”
Reviewed March 13, 2013

The Brassiere.
A spacious dining area, comfortable with a relaxed atmosphere, clean modern lines and unpretentious. A nice place to eat, drink and converse with a friend or a group.

The service was excellent, the staff numerous and smartly attired and, when asked a question that they couldn’t answer promptly went and came back with the information. Very good.

A varied menu and decent wine list. Food is tending towards ‘trendy’ insomuch that portions are not over large, but compensated for by some novel dishes and quite intense flavours. I had the Pigs Cheek Faux risotto starter which I could have polished off in two decent dessert-spoonfuls, but it was so delicious that I slowly consumed it, it gave great satisfaction. (Bye the bye..the faux risotto is actually tiny cubes of celeriac).

The fillet steak was perfect, again first impression was that it didn’t look very big, but it was so good with the pink peppercorn sauce that I was more than satisfied. My wife’s meal was also excellent, I must admit to chastising her a little as she went for the ‘boring’ chicken, but, but… I can tell you that the chicken breast was simply so delicious that I am left wondering how they do it!

Although pretty expensive, we will definitely visit again.

A large car-park is directly opposite
.
We also ate at Number 7 Fish Restaurant adjacent. I have submitted a review.
