“1st time at Abingdon house”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2012

Just spent a week at Abingdon house on a half board basis and I can honestly say it was excellent, we had a lovely welcome from Janet, the room was clean and spacious, towels were on the bed and some little chocolates waiting for us, tea and coffee facilities in our room, breakfast was excellent cooked by Andrew, I don't like butter or cream but they accommodated my food for me which was brilliant, the 3 course evening meals were excellent, Andrew and Janet are a lovely couple who have excellent knowledge of The local area, we have already booked for may 2013, I would recommend staying at Abingdon house to anybody.

We stayed for 5 nights in early July on half board basis in a 'superior' room. We fancied another break in Torquay having last been there in 2010. We decided to follow the hosts from their previous establishment (Glenross) to Abingdon House as we felt it was the hosts that had made previous stays such a memorable experience and not the building. So it proved to be the case. Andrew, Janet and Catherine are still on great form and in many respects, from our experience the Abingdon is much preferable to the old establishment. We can unreservedly recommend this guest house. It offers excellent service from the hosts, good food, comfort and value for money.

Stayed for two nights, it was excellent. Room was spacious and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was delicious. Very good location short walk to sea front. Would highly recommend. Andrew and Janet make you feel very welcome.

Just spent four nights at Abingdon House, and what a delight it was!
Run by Husband & Wife team Andrew & Janet with a little help from their daughter. We were extended a warm welcome with tea & cake on arrival, fluffy towels and chocolates on the bed, and lots of little touches that you don't find in most hotels, let alone a B&B.
Breakfast was exellent and it is obvious that Andrew uses the very best ingredients. Same thing applies to their evening meals which we indulged in on three evenings. Not only is the food first rate, just about everything is available gluten free to the same standard.
Andrew & Janet have a real knowledge & understanding of Gluten free food & Coeliacs can eat with complete confidence in their establishment. Add in that they are a delightful couple with an excellent knowledge of the local area, and you have to ask yourself; why would I want to stay anywhere else in Torquay?

Top class accomodation. Excellent food. In our opinion the best place to stay in Torquay. Janet and Andrew are most welcoming and are happy to cater for any menu changes or comfort changes that you may need. They cater for all normal appertites and also for coeliac requirements.

Room Tip: All rooms are good

Janet and Andrew made us feel very welcome, the room was decorated to the highest standard
and the food was excellent. The attention to the small details were good right down to the
chocolates left on the bed.The breakfast menu was varied and the Full Breakfast was very
good. With the option of an evening meal this gave us more flexibility to do what we wanted.
We did have an evening meal one night and this was cooked to the highest standard. I can
fully recommend the Abingdon House if you are looking for impeccable service and value
for money with a friendly feel. Every detail was there to help us relax and enjoy our stay right
down to home made cake on arrival to supplies of bottled water to take with us on our days
out. With the help of their charming and polite daughter Catherine,Janet and Andrew made
our stay totally relaxing.Torquay and its sea front and town centre were charming but for me
Paignton Zoo was a wonderful experience. I can fully recommend the Steam Railway trip
from Paignton to Dartmouth (which is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been).
We had a wonderful stay in Torbay and would recommend it to all (but you must stay at the
Abingdon). Thankyou once again to Andrew,Janet and Catherine full a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: All the rooms are excellent. You must try the evening meal especially the home made trifle......

What my husband and i experienced at Abingdon House, far exceeded our expectations. Our hosts Janet,Andrew and daughter Catherine were extremely nice and very helpful. The food was excellent and my gluten-free diet was no problem to them which meant i was able to totally relax for the first time.We had never visited Torquay before so did not realise what we were missing. Walks on beautiful Dartmoor, visits to the quaint villages of Babbacombe,Cockington and Widdecombe in the Moor are not to be missed. The steam railways and museums were a particular favourite with my husband. We also thoroughly enjoyed our day at Paignton Zoo despite being in our mid sixties. As garden lovers we visited Plant World in Newton Abbot and were amazed at the wonderful selection of unusual plants and came away with loads. We will have to return soon as ther was so much more to see and do but time ran out.We will definately return to Abingdon House as we were so well looked after. Thank you Janet and Andrew.

Room Tip: Room 5 is on the first floor at the side of the building and was very quiet. It was also spacious.
