“Lovely hotel but fire alarm kept going off”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2011

My friends and I stayed at this hotel for two nights as a friend was getting married close by. The hotel itself is perfectly nice and very decent value for money.

We had room 1 - there were lovely views over Torquay, the beds were very comfortable and the room was nicely fitted out with a decent bathroom. They are not the most soundproof of rooms though so you will hear neighbouring guests if they come in late or noisily.

Breakfast was also very good with a great selection of cereals, fruit and yoghurt and a cooked breakfast however you want it.

And if that was all then this reveiw would've certainly gained another star. Unfortunately during the second night of our stay the fire alarm kept going off due to a fault. Needless to say that ruined our sleep!! I wouldn't have minded too much (things like this do happen) but the response from the owners was pretty much a shrug of the shoulders.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view over the town

Thank you for your review. I couldn't have apologised more to everyone for the fault on the fire alarm (which was totally out of our control and fixed by the fire company by 8.30am) I do however dispute the fact that I just shrugged my shoulders as I have never done this to anyone in my life!

This was a family trip to Torquay. The hotel was lovely and clean, the owners were very welcoming and the made to order breakfast was fantastic.

This is a great hotel for all - families, couples and groups. The owners are very helpful.

There is an in-house bar and a patio area outside.

Would recommend Mount Nessing Hotel to my friends and will be going back there again.

We stayed at this hotel when we were traveling with a small group of school children through England. Our group filled up the entire house. Of all our stays in England, this was everyone's favorite. The view is spectacular and unparalleled. The rooms are clean and quaint. The atmosphere was very welcoming to our group and made us feel welcome immediately. While it's not a 4 star hotel, we would take the "charms' of this quaint house over the industrial amenities of a formal hotel any day; in fact, we plan on returning to Torquay and staying here again. FYI: Do not be caught off guard: There is no elevator, it is a bit hard to find, there is a long walk downhill to town, water temperature is unpredictable and the rooms aren't quiet proof. However, it's was a great experience for us! I hope you enjoy it, too.

A great b and b with lovely views of the sea and the old village of torbay. Its definitely one I would recommend for either a short stay or holiday. I've stayed in several hotels but always find the best nights stay is a cosey b and b. The rooms had all the facilities you'd need and were very clean. The rates were very reasonable with a superb brekkie to wake up to in the morning. Theres also a great little bar to take full advantage of ! Its only a 5 minute walk to the cente of torquay so in a great location.
The staff are very welcoming and were always happy to help.
I'm already looking forward to my next visit !

We stayed here for our weddig anniversary and also to tie in with a friends wedding in torquay, being on a tight budget we couldn't afford to stay in the imerial where the wedding was so opted to stay i a guest house. We didn't want to stay in a premier inn or such as these are usually plagued by stag/hen parties, so when we found this little place we thought it perfect. On arrival we were shown to our room and able to book in earlier than usual which was very helpful. We dumped our bags and headed off to the imperial. We did do it in a taxi as where the hotel is is very very hilly. We then headed back to the hotel at 1030 from the reception ebtering quietly as not to wake anyone we then headed to our room and fell comfortably asleep after our long day. Only to be woken up by talking a few hours later by guests in a next door room, back to sleep we go then at a ridiculous hour we were awoken again by slamming doors and very loud talking which went on for quite a while.

We went down to breakfast int he morning whuch was very pelasent with lots to choose from, it was lovely and peaceful down there for about 5 mins until 10 lads came down for breakfast all talking about the night before, then a group of girls came down.

So be aware that this hotel will let samam sex groups ion, not the place to go if you are looking for a quet get away which i thought this would be.

Not wothr the £70 we paid for it.

Shall not be returning in the future, which is a shame as we regulary visit toruqya once a year to vsiit friends

The hotel is in an upper road of Torquay with views down onto the town and harbour. There are flights of steps down to the town which can be reached in 10 mins or so - we opted for a taxi back which is only around £5.

Rooms are very clean and confortable - nice breakfast cooked to order and very friendly and helpful owners. Hotel has a bar area which is ideal for a pre dinner drink particuarly if you are there with friends & family.

Will keep the contact details for any future visits to Torquay
