My husband and I stayed here for one night in May and found the level of service from initial booking through to checking out to be excellent. I found the hotel on a search site and booked on the strength of previous Trip Advisor reviews and it lived up to those reviews. Debbie and Gary are very helpful and friendly and we were greeted with the offer of a cup of tea upon arrival. We stayed in room 6 which was tastefully decorated and beautifully clean. The room was quiet (as we had requested), the bed really comfy and there was no shortage of hot water for showers and washing. The hotel is in a great location - just ten minutes walk down the hill into the centre of Torquay - so close enough to access everything, but far enough away to be peaceful and relaxing.
Breakfast was delicious and we would definitely stay here again.

The rooms were all clean just as the dining room was. The location was a small walk into town where there were a large number of shops and restaurants. The hotel did not have a sea view and the parking was on a large slop with a risk of grounding. The rooms were of a good standard with an en-suite and were always clean. Each room has a freeview compatible TV which can play DVD. The hotel has a Nintendo Wii with games to play and a selection of DVD available to watch in the lounge area or to take to your room. There were also a number of board and family games available to use. The owners and staff at the hotel were very friendly an gave us various ideas on things to do, places to see and which beaches to visit based on past experience and tier knowledge on the area. The value for the stay was good. Overall, I feel this was a very good hotel.

If your considering spending time in the torbay area, give Debbie and Gary a call,
they are the perfect hosts, in very clean and pleasent surroundings.
upon arrival we were given the full and very warm welcome by Gary, and then in time the lovely debbie arrived and continued in the same vain, none of it over the top, but all very sincere and friendly, and that set the agenda for a very pleasent stay at the Shirley,
The room was very neat and tidy, and well presented, huge towels ( a big bone of contention from my part is small towels in hotel rooms !) tea ,biscuits, bottled water, all in the room and re stocked every day.
Breakfast in the morning was more than enough, trust me ! i can eat ! and i was more than satisfied
so in short, book it, dont hesitate,
Debbie, Gary, once again, many thanks

Lesley & Ian.

Room Tip: dont worry, they are all nice

The Shirley is in a good location for walking to the local shops / pubs / harbour etc., though it is all uphill on the way back if you are a little less mobile (though you can always get a taxi). Debbie and Gary were both very friendly and welcoming, the house itself is lovely, clean throughout and well maintained. The room was nice, with a very comfy bed ( and very big, fluffy white towels!). The breakfast choice was excellent, and the full English was very tasty and made up of good quality ingredients. We felt very comfortable at The Shirley throughout our 2 night stay....the only downside was not being able to stay any longer!
