“Wonderful Food.”
Reviewed December 2, 2012

On a coach trip, with Sunrise Direct, we stayed at this good hotel, room with a sea view over the roof tops. The food was really good and we will definitely go back. Well done the chef and kitchen staff. The service was efficient and the girls very friendly.
P B Blackwell.

Room Tip: Rooms at the top of the building are really nice.

This hotel has to be the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. To say the room I was allocated was snall would be a understatement - it would be more accurate to say that it was more of a rat hole. Also the room was disgustingly dirty and the what facilities were there were in need of replacing last century. As has previously been stated the management/owners were not just rude but downright insulting to their guests to the extent of bullying. I can speak quite candidly regarding this as I was one of the managers victims. I do not see why after spending the money I have, I should have to put up with being shouted at, insulted and being made to look stupid. I wish that I told my son of what was going on as I know that he would have come to this hotel and given the owners the same back with plenty extra. The owners do not need a crash course in customer service as this would be wasted on them. Quite simply they should just leave the hotel business altogether and hand over to their own staff who actually know how to treat their customers quite properly. Note to the owners, that is called politeness, something you are lacking.
How David Urquhurt use such a place that is a real life version of Fawlty Towers can only be described as unbelieveable. Maybe they should do some undercover work as such places will only lose them business. Similarly the local tourist board & council should be made aware of places like this as they can only put people off visiting such a wonderful area as Torquay.
My advice is if you go to Torquay, stay away from this hotel, you would do better sleeping rough for a week.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel

Just back from a short Tinsel & Turkey break and no complaints. The Hotel is quite dated, but very clean and about what you expect for this type of short break. The shower was quite small and a bit of a struggle for my husband so ask for a room with a bath if you are on the large size. The food was very good and the waiting staff were very pleasant and efficient. Nothing was too much trouble and I was very impressed with the service. The rooms were warm and very clean, with clean towels and bedding and a very comfortable bed.
We were offered mince pies and sherry on arrival and a warm welcome in general. We were out when father christmas arrived and thought we had missed out and were pleasantly surprised to find our gifts were put in our rooms while we were at breakfast on day of departure. The entertainment is very good. No complaints from us!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a bath if you are well built

This Hotel although it's only got 2 stars the rooms are in dire need of being refurbished, the central heating needs to be sorted out (it's either very hot or freezing cold) and because of this some of the bedrooms were quite damp, also if you are an invalid there is only one lift servicing one floor. Having said this the food was first class every bit as good as some 5 star hotels I have stayed in, the staff were freindly and most helpfull in cateering for our every need, my wife asked for a glass of water to take her tablets on the morning of our first breakfast, there was one there every morning after that. We were in a coach party one of four this particular week and all seated in the restuarant for meals at the same time, you would expect some meals to be only warm but NO every meal was piping hot. Well done Ashley Court Hotel staff you alone deserve 5 stars.

having just returned from a short stay I did not think hotels this dated still operated.
I don't think it needs to be brought forward into the future it needs to be burnt down
the welcome was none existent, the narrow corridors to your room is very claustrophobic.
the rooms was very small the TV was so old i expected to see black and white pictures
The bed had a rubber under sheet which says a lot, plus the protuding bed ends caused us pain when we continually bumped into in the dark. I don't know what was left in the kettle but the tea tasted funny. Observe the meals times because if your late you've missed it.the staff were quick to serve maybe a bit to quick so forget a lazy meal time The bar staff was lacking in friendly banter,The entertainment was good but a lot of guest went out early.
Qverall would i stay again I DONT THINK SO

Room Tip: if you want a good room ask for another hotel

Just returned from a Tinsel and Turkey stay at this Hotel, we had a lovely time. Nice and clean, good food and entertainment. 3 coaches staying at the time, but it didnt seem crowded. Very surprised by Father Christmas and the New Year wine all in all an excellent time. Would go there again.
