Hotel is not to be recommended for people with walking difficulties lots of stairs and lift out of order at time of visit, Room decor poor but were clean, plumbing could have been better, meals were good with reasonable choice. Had some evening entertainment which was average.

Arrived for a 2 night stay with some friends for the weekend on the Friday night.
The check-in was swift and pleasant.
Rooms were dated, but had all I needed in there. A bit dated, but spacious enough.
Breakfast was a buffet style for all, well layed out and not as if it had been there for all the morninig, even if we turned up with 15 mins to go. They even plated up some ready for 1 of our party who was late.
Didn't get to use the leisure facilities, so cannot comment.
Booked this at a great rate for single occupancy rooms and would definately go back, based on this, or a little bit more.
My only issue is that when the bar closed the night staff were not allowed to serve, so there were no drinks available after 11pm.
Apart from that, I would recommend the hotel.

We spent 4 days there having booked last minute with National holidays. The food was excellent, both breakfast and evening meal but when it came to the bar staff, absolute disgrace.Their attitude was totally indifferent as though it was too much trouble to serve,we were on a 3 hour free bar break 1 person 1 drink so if you went with your partner they had to fetch their own .on the last night 1 of them set off the fire alarm so they could finish early, this was at 11 20 approx ,1 of the guests needed assistance to escape:: and 1 of the bar staff said she wasnt going to risk her life to help him,if thats their attitude they dont deserve custom

I enjoyed a wonderful Turkey n Tinsel midweek break at the Rainbow Hotel, and must add my comments. After a very pleasant journey down to Torquay, I entered the hotel and was thrilled by the decorations - it's like fairy land! Very tastefully decorated, and a lovely welcome! The girl on reception (Sonia?) was very helpful, and has a lovely smile. Well our break got better and better, the food is amazing. The Christmas dinner on Tuesday (complete with crackers, turkey, SIX different vegetables, and an array of deserts), was really enjoyable, and everyone in the attractive restaurant seemed to be having fun..
The Salvation Army Band came in and handed out carol books, and we enjoyed a singalong. This was followed by cash bingo, which my sister and I enjoyed, and then a Christmas Show. There was a bit of comedy, singing (what a great voice that young lad has) and dancing girls, finishing off with a medley of costumed Christmas songs. The little girl sang "somewhere over the Rainbow, and "2 front teeth" - I assume this was the daughter? It was lovely. And there was a wonderful atmosphere, we've met lovely people - one group are on their 4th turkey n tinsel break at the hotel! Must also say how wonderful the entertainment was on Wednesday. Some people paid extra and went o the theatre, and they really missed a wonderful evening at the Rainbow with a very talented man called Chris. one of the best cabaret acts I've seen.

I will definately return next year to turkey n tinsel, if not before and enjoy a spring break on the english riviera!

I have just returned from the Rainbow International and agree with another reviewer that it is an “Ice House”. The bedrooms were cold and no extra blankets were available. In the evening the bar was freezing - people were sitting in there with coats on. They ran out of several types of beer on the Friday evening, but did not get any more on Saturday, when we were subjected to an hour and a half of bingo in the main bar. On the Sunday night, we went into another hotel for beer, warmth and entertainment.

The tables in the lounge and restaurant were sticky from previous use as they had not been cleaned properly. The food was not too bad, but not as warm as it could have been. At breakfast, the fried bread was solid and inedible and the queue for toast was unacceptable.

Be warned - the web site states that all rooms have “iron / trouser press”. Ours had neither. It did have a colour TV which provided bad reception on 3 stations.

We stayed at the Rainbow International for a weekend break in sept.
The hotel itself does need a little refurbishment BUT everything else more than makes up for it.
The rooms were comfortable, the food excellent & the staff always willing to answer our questions with a smile.
Ok this isn't a 5 star hotel, but is a great value for money hotel near to the seafront (it took us 5 mins to walk there) & a short walk into the town.
We'll definately be back..............

This Hotel is not for people who would like to be warm !!!! We went in October and the Entertainments Room was so cold, I went to reception to ask if the heating could be turned on, NOT just for me, but on behalf of MANY of the guests; only to be told "We haven't any heating in The Rainbow Suite." I just don't know what guests will do in the winter !

The Entertainment "team " consisted of a man , woman and their child. ( I think they must be trying to teach the child to run it when they are not there! ) The Bingo was a travesty very poorly organised with Bingo rules being broken, a few times Need I say more !!

The dining room had useless toasters at only one end of it, therefore when one slice of toast takes five minutes for "pale" you can imagine the queues for the toast.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone !!!!!!
