So that is the best we could say about this 'Hotel'. We arrived at the hotel on monday, initially entering the hotel the environment was friendly and welcoming, the front of desk staff were helpful and happy to help.

On arriving in our room we found it to be 'as small as the airing closet' (a quote we overheard someone describing there room at the dinner hall) it harboured 3 single beds, 1 double bed, 2 bedside tables, a vanity with drawers and a wardrobe. This would be sufficient for a weeks stay for two people. A family of 5 was expected to stay in here for 5 days. With no where to put our stuff we placed our suitcases on the side of our beds and took what we needed out of there. 4 of us decided to go to the pool, leaving the driver of the car to lie down for an hour. All of us got ready in our room, as the driver went to lay down in his bed he removed the quilt back only to find a stained bed sheet. Disgusted as no one had even lay in our bed yet we placed the throw back on and left him in peace as he rested on top of the bed.

On arriving at the pool the door was coded, the code was provided at the front desk, the pool was small, this pool could just about fit in 8 people to comfortably swim in. Initial thoughts of the pool were 'it's dirty' the pool instead of being clear (or clear-ish) was cloudy. After the mother of the family said it should be fine it has chlorine in it, all four of us entered the pool. The pool felt thick with grease, it was like swimming in a bowl of warm soup. Now we understood why the outside pool was in such a bad condition because this pool was heading there two. I, myself, lasted half an hour in the human grease broth of a pool after starting to feel very sick. I left the pool room and went back to my room.
I immediately went straight for the shower - to clean up. I was filthy, I felt slimy. Upon entering the bathroom I was confronted with a set of chipped tiles, dirty corners of the bathroom and a dirty bath basin - great. After turning on the shower I left it for a while with just hot water flowing to remove some of the brown grime from the side of the bath. After I thought it was safe to get in, I washed off the grease, got dressed and went to lie down while I waited for the others to come back. They love the pool I expected them to be there a couple of hours at least - you could say it was unpleasant at least as they came out the pool ten minutes after me.

We went to the evening meal after that. Clean, showered, even the driver (the father of the family) showered to clean himself after feeling itchy off the bed. The whole room had that effect on people.
The evening meal was a nice set-up, beautifully set out, waiters at hand to help you out, we got bread rolls and the soup was hot and lovely. We were all very hungry the food on offer catered for everyone's needs, the youngest child had a pork carvery which was gone in seconds! For a ten year old he ate a lot! The 13 year old had a curry with rice which was relatively hot most was eaten, myself I had liver and onions not much was eaten as I still felt ill from the pool and had a terrible cough, as well the liver was sloppy and it was luke warm, same with mothers dish she had the same, she finished the potatoes, the father of the family had a curry and rice which was inedible, being stone cold. The deserts were cold as well, I fancied pineapple, on receiving that to my disgust was brown.

Myself, the 13 year old and mother went back to our room, ten minutes later the manager comes in 'we've had a complaint, the room is un livable'. My mother said about the bed needed changing, politely, as he took us by surprise, we explained about the lack of space for a family. Our complaint was neglected, we left the hotel to wonder around the surroundings, beautiful. We went back to the hotel at half ten.
Clean bed sheets were placed on the bed for us to change it ourselves. Upon entering the room from outside we could feel the atmosphere was dirty, Father, 10 year old and 13 year old went downstairs to get drinks. We got changed to go to bed and I lifted back my bed sheets and lay down on what I thought was a clean bed... Mother lifted back her bed sheets and gingerly sat on the edge of the bed, after 10 minutes of us talking mother said she wanted to leave, she had found a bug in the bed, she has a picture of this bug. We phoned the others to see if we could get a refund as whilst we were wondering around the town we were also looking for vacancies as the films of dust, stained carpets, dirty beds, lack of storage, etc was not the sort of holiday we wanted. The bug in the bed was the last straw, we moved to the hotel next door at 11pm. They were welcoming and shocked at our recent experience. 'Your holiday starts now she said' she was right. We are currently staying in a clean hotel called the sherwood hotel. A bit disorganised but they're new to the business. Thank Gosh they were there, we would have gone home!!

Just came back from a weekend here. And found it to be quite adequate, close to sea front and town centre, it's a very large hotel with lots of corridors so can be a bit confusing, yes it is in need of a makeover , but so is every other residence round here, but all boils down to money I suppose, didn't let this get us down though, rooms were clean and comfortable, our only qualm was we had a groundfloor room with a patio door and all the seagulls used to congregate here before dawn making such a racket. Plenty of choice for breakfast and free parking on site, overall had a good stay and would stay here again

A late booking turned out great, seeing I normally stay in higher rate hotels, it is a busy hotel,a lot of foreign students so a lot of life, the room was basic but clean and serviceable, the lifts are small but better than climbing stairs. nice view, good pool, good buffet breakfast, free car parking on site, close to the harbour and shops, do not look to closely at décor, at £75 a night B&B my Thai wife loved it so spent more on shopping and eating.
Torquay is a lovely place to visit

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the top floor

In on a one night stay , booking in etc all very good, however even though the sign by corridor door asked for it to be closed quietly , this is not happening . Until well after 4.00 a.m the door was constantly opened and closed and left to bang closed.Polite signs do not work, please find some mechanical device to do it please. Would not have been able to stay more than the one night here.

The hotel is well appointed for local attractions and a short walk to the sea. The buffet breakfast offers a wide choice of hot and cold food and the breakfast room is light and airy. The evening dining area and dance floor are furnished to a high standard. We were impressed with the swimming pool area which looked inviting. Our room furnishings were of a good standard with a bath and shower. The hotel offers a good level of service with food and beverages. All the staff were friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our brief stay but would hope to return in the future.
Thank you to the 'Rainbow Team'.
