“Very Dated”
Reviewed July 16, 2011

Hotel is very dated to about the 70's still.
Propably when business was very thriving then. i lived around Torquay then , and it was a brilliant vibrant time.
This hotel has not moved on since then in my opinion.
It is now Known as Rainbow INTERNATION HOTEL
As only staying on a Late booking B&B basis , i found the charge extremely high, and no international breakfast as i would have expected .
Although the staff very friendly , but very broken English.
Cannot beleive the charge for a very basic breakfast with not very much "COTINENTIONAL BREAKFAST CHOICE" very poor value for money.
No shower in bathroom. wallpaper hanging of wall. very decident surrondings and atmosphere

Stayed at this hotel for a long weekend with friends. Having stayed here before I knew what to expect and I wasn't disappointed. The food is reasonable and the staff friendly and helpful. The let down was the entertainment or lack of it. On my previous visit I was disappointed at the lack of entertainment but thought that this might have been a one off - wrong- this time there was no entertainment at all the concert room having been taken over by a private party. The hotel is classed as 'Entertainment plus' by Travelstyle which is totally off the mark. The bedrooms are in need of refurbishment but fill their function. If you get this hotel at the right price and are prepared to accept its downfalls then go for it otherwise give it a miss.

very large hotel and was surprised that the waiting staff in the dining room were only there to clear away tables at breakfast. everything was self service, even the tea, coffee and toast making. if i wanted self catering at £180 per family room for one night B&B, i would have stayed at a travelodge instead ,eaten out and saved some cash.

Just wanted to say that we had a lovely time staying at the hotel and doing the Live Salsa Band Night at the beginning of June 2011. The room was huge and more than adequate enough for our needs. We went to the Live Salsa Band Night on the Friday which was just the best ever. The 4 course meal beforehand was lovely and plenty of choice as it was a buffet.

All the staff were friendly, and we will definately be staying there again.
Many thanks.

great food excellent choice for both evening meal and breakfasts are all you could want . the staff were dressed very smart and were very poliet and service was very efficient during meals. only down side was the bathroom has it had a broken mixer tap for shower/bath and bath stained with white bleech marks emphasising this plus there seem to be a shortage of hot water during certain peak times which meant having a cold shower with very little or no water pressure. Rest of the room and facilities were clean and in good working order which made our stay comfortable and enjoyable the only down side was lots and lots of stairs to keep going up and down to our room.
the evening although limited was good and comedians were extremely funny so much so i bought a dvd.
i would def go back again

Having stayed at the Rainbow House for our honeymoon we decided to go back to the same hotel same room lovely you might think how romantic NOT SO I dont think the furniture had been changed in forty years half the shower was blocked with only cold water coming out of that and the basin taps, bed hard with springs popping up curtain hanging down at window oh I forgot back to the bathroom sink dirty towel rail rusty , we went to reception the girl seemed surprised at our compaints and said she thought it was a new matteriss on the bed, and offered us the keys to another room with instructions how to find it after going down a maze of corridoors with paper coming of the walls and very dirty with piles of dirty linen on the floors we gave up and left . Having booked we looked at reviews of the Hotel and we were worried so rang and was assured that the room we had booked was being refurbished this obviously lies.
Now the good news we drove around and booked into The Livermead House all I can say is EXCELLENT

I'm currently in room 233, I'm not very happy at all!! This is a poor show from the rainbow hotel, my kettle dosent work as it looks like someone tried using it as a lighter!! I came home last night and my bed was missing?? Looking out of my window there is scaffolding everywhere! The guy on the front desk is more camp then the breakfast waiter! I would not stay here again ever! It seems from their guests they come here to die!! And for the food I'd rather saw off my arm then eat that crap again!
