“very good stay at the Trecarn”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

Returned yesterday after staying 4 nights on a 5 day break with National Holidays, we travelled with two friends and from start to finish every thing was brilliant. Our room was really nice, re-furbished to a very good standard, and kept clean and tidy each day. Meals was very good and served by our waitress,[Katrina] always pleasant and polite, as indeed all of the staff was.
The hotel is a 5 min gentle stroll from the downs at Babbacombe a must to see and enjoy
We spent the evenings in the hotel, usual stuff, bingo and cabaret [ but this left a lot to be desired ] a little disappointing, although talking to a couple who was on their third visit they said that normally it is good
Our coach driver was Sharon who was very good indeed ,pointing out interesting things on the way down, on the excursions, and on the way back.
We would certainly recommend this hotel and visit it again in the near future,

Room Tip: Re-furbished if posible

Thank you for your lovely review and another great mention for all the staff at the hotel. I always make sure they are made aware of the many positive reviews they receive as they certainly work hard to deliver a high standard of service. Hopefully you will visit us again soon

We have just come back from a 4 night stay at the Bay Trecarn Hotel in Babbacombe. 29th June to 3rd July. We stayed here as part of an all inclusive break with National Holidays. Price was £239 pp, it consisted of Travel, two excursions, bed, breakfast, evening meal and 4 drinks per night. Really well worth it.
The room (169) was a double room at the front of the hotel, not too small and not too large. Although it was not one of the hotels newly refurbished rooms, it was very clean and tidy. This room had a bath and a shower over the bath, this suited us as my partner likes a bath but I like a shower. Towels were replaced when necessary.
The room its self had a comfy bed (double), two chairs and dressing table, also colour TV, coffee making facilities (coffee, tea, sugar and milk replaced each day) plus a phone. All in all a nice room.
Getting up to the room brought a smile to my face; it was like going back in time. The lift was like something from the ark. To get into the lift you open the outer door then the inner gate. On entering you close the outer door then the inner gate, then just press you floor number. At least they worked and it was funny, it was like I was back at the pit (coal mine)
The dinning area is massive, you get allotted a table and this is your table for your stay. It is waiter service and I thought they did a good job; the waiters do their best to please. The food was always piping hot and enjoyable.
3 course breakfasts and evening meals, although on one of the evening meals you do have a free drink of wine. You only get small portions at meal times but I thought they were adequate. I can recommend the pork sirloin it just melts in your mouth.
The bar area is not that large but its ok, entertainment every night, bingo, quiz and a turn. Carling or Worthington Smooth £3.50 a pint ouch.
This is an ideal hotel for us older people; don’t think it would suit the younger generation.
The only down side is for the smokers. There is a smoking area within 3metres of the main entrance; there is a small seating area to the right of the main entrance with a few tables and chairs. If you are lucky you will be able to grab an ash tray, you will have to be lucky because there is only ONE ash tray for the whole hotel. If its raining you will get wet because no covered area.
I will just add that I think the seagulls here are nocturnal; they were making a proper racket at 1.30 in the morning on our first night, but that’s not the hotels fault lol.

Places of interest within 20 minutes walk from the hotel.
Babbacombe downs with its stunning views over the bay, a site worth seeing.
You could even try the funicular railway that goes down the cliffs to the beach.
My best recommendation would be a visit to the model village. It is out of this world, spend time and look at each section, look very carefully and see all the gems that you would miss like the humorous touches, like the streaker on the football pitch, or the, no will not give the details I will spoil it for you.
When you show your holiday snaps to friends the will look through in quick time, but believe me if you take snaps of the model village you will have to fight hard to get your snaps back.

Bay Trecarn Hotel is about 4 mile from Torquay, there is a bus service to Torquay the number 32 and it runs about every 12 minutes, fare £1.80 one way, I don’t know the return price. Now all you older end, your bus pass does not start here till 9.30am.

Would we stay here again? Yes

Thank you for your review following your stay with us. I have had a word with the seagulls about making so much noise! The lift is old but servicable and is regularly checked. My father was a miner himself and I am sure he would appreciate what you said! Hopefully you will consider a further visit to us in the near future

We were a bit unsure before arriving as had read some bad reports, but phoned the hotel and was told we would be allocated a refurbished room. Room clean, beds comfortable, food excellent and the staff very helpful. Amy went out of her way to help us. Would stay again but would be worried what room we would be given as some of the hotel is a bit dated. I even think the ghost visited me one night!!! Hotel very central for visiting, buses just up the road.

Room Tip: Call first to request special room

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us and not being put off by negative reviews. All I can suggest is ring us again, as you did before this stay, and we will do our utmost to ensure you have a room to your liking. We are refurbishing rooms yearly so more and more are getting to the higher standard, but if you found a room number that you were happy with, we will do what we can to make sure you get to stay there again!

just returned from 3rd visit having stayed in same pleasant room twice last year this was not available this time and room this time not as good. First room offered was dreadful and staff very helpful offering another room, we were worn out by this time with our very long journey from the North East so accepted it as better than first. Shower room was dreadful, cubicle access was very high and entry so small a large person would have had great difficulty, fan did not work overall not good at all. GOOD POINTS !! Food good with choices all served by great staff who at times were streched to the limit !! special mention of Jack who served our coffee at dinner he made such an effort being polite and efficient. All staff at this hotel are a credit and were the best we have met in the many trips we have done with national holidays

Room Tip: try for a refurbished one

If you are looking for a 4 star holiday then go elsewhere but if u want a value for money holiday then consider this hotel. Some rooms are in need of refurb and a wee bit small and 1st floor front rooms are noisy until 11.30 pm as you can here the entertainment. A simple solution would be to turn the sound down a few notches. All staff are dutiful and extremely pleasant.
