We stayed for 4 nights over Oct/Nov half-term whilst visiting family and were disappointed. Whilst our teenage children had quite a nice spacious room (room 6), our room (room 2 ) was extremely cramped and noisy and not good value considering they cost the same amount. The arrival of the bin lorry every morning at 6.30am was a real downer (not a good view of the skip either!). Even without the bin lorry, the sound of next door's newspaper being dropped outside their room every morning would have woken me up anyway with the creaky floor and banging door - I am sure the staff member doing this could have tried to be a bit quieter at that time of the morning! The plumbing in the room above was also very noisy and the occupants visiting the bathroom in the night woke me up every time. The entertainment was really suited to the elderly crowd that seemed to predominate, but not our cup of tea at all. We could have done without the elderlies discussing their bowel habits in the lounge too. There is nothing to interest teenagers either - a games room would be a good idea. The indoor pool is no bigger than a splash pool and is definitely misadvertised. Breakfast was nice, although one of the waitresses thought it was better to chat than serve tea/coffee so we gave up asking for more in the end - incidently, she was told off by the other waitress, but replied "It's my job to chat"...no love, it's your job to serve the paying guests! The male serving staff were nice though. Dinner however, was not good value and the portions were very small although quite tasty (this put us off after only one dinner in the hotel dining room). Having said all this, the hotel is extremely clean and housekeeping seemed good overall. The location is very good, although you should be aware that it is up a steep hill (which we knew, as we know Torquay well and it is very hilly). The decor was attractive and we liked the lights on the trees outside, which made it quite festive.
