We stayed for 4 nights over Oct/Nov half-term whilst visiting family and were disappointed. Whilst our teenage children had quite a nice spacious room (room 6), our room (room 2 ) was extremely cramped and noisy and not good value considering they cost the same amount. The arrival of the bin lorry every morning at 6.30am was a real downer (not a good view of the skip either!). Even without the bin lorry, the sound of next door's newspaper being dropped outside their room every morning would have woken me up anyway with the creaky floor and banging door - I am sure the staff member doing this could have tried to be a bit quieter at that time of the morning! The plumbing in the room above was also very noisy and the occupants visiting the bathroom in the night woke me up every time. The entertainment was really suited to the elderly crowd that seemed to predominate, but not our cup of tea at all. We could have done without the elderlies discussing their bowel habits in the lounge too. There is nothing to interest teenagers either - a games room would be a good idea. The indoor pool is no bigger than a splash pool and is definitely misadvertised. Breakfast was nice, although one of the waitresses thought it was better to chat than serve tea/coffee so we gave up asking for more in the end - incidently, she was told off by the other waitress, but replied "It's my job to chat"...no love, it's your job to serve the paying guests! The male serving staff were nice though. Dinner however, was not good value and the portions were very small although quite tasty (this put us off after only one dinner in the hotel dining room). Having said all this, the hotel is extremely clean and housekeeping seemed good overall. The location is very good, although you should be aware that it is up a steep hill (which we knew, as we know Torquay well and it is very hilly). The decor was attractive and we liked the lights on the trees outside, which made it quite festive.

Room Tip: Steer clear of the bin area (right side of the hotel).

Thank you for your recent review. We are truly disappointed that you did not enjoy some aspects of your stay at the hotel, unfortunately my guess is that we may not have been the most suitable hotel for yourselves and your teenage children. Our guests generally are 45+ and active, as we are on a hill, as you say, and are looking for a relaxed and calm ambience, 'nice entertainment' rather than a games rooms and loud music, and quality food rather than oversized portions. The rooms you were booked to are probably the two extremes, Room 6 was once a Superior room, and is in my view the best Standard room, with a sofa and much larger than Room 2, which is probably our smallest double room but located on the ground floor which is favoured by some of our guests. With a hotel of our type, every room is different, and there are inevitably the largest and smallest of each room type although every room and bathroom has been refurbished to a high standard.
The noise issues you experienced are unacceptable and we are very sorry that you were disturbed, our bins are collected three times a week and we insist that they do not collect before 9am, as with all our deliveries and I will investigate this personally to see why they have arrived earlier, and will also talk to our Night Porter to ensure he is as quiet as possible at all times.
On the other points, we advertise the indoor pool as a small pool, and it is unlikley that any hotel of our size is going to have a very large pool as it would not be commercially viable to heat it, as we do, to 30 degrees. I think it is a little unnecessary to disparage our other guests. and we do encourage our staff to be friendly, but certainly not at the expense of serving our guests. I feel our dinner service, at £15 for a three course meal with coffee, is good value as we try and ensure it is excellent quality and tasty as you say, as well as providing appropriate portion sizes. We are pleased that you found some good points and that you liked the outside lights and thank you again for taking the time to give us your feedback.

We had our wedding reception with Lincombe Hall and it was fantastic! All the staff are so friendly and helpful, especially the night porter who had to put up with us propping up the bar into the small hours! Food was good, lots of the guests complimented the menu. The hotel was just the right size to host our day, with lovely decor throughout. Would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone, lots of lovely little touches that you wouldn't get from larger chain hotels!

We stayed at this hotel for three days last week. We opted to pay extra for a Gold Standard room and were allocated the Bridal Suite (room 4) complete with a 4 poster bed! It was worth the extra money, and for us, has enabled an ‘excellent’ rating for this hotel. The bedroom was a good size and had good views over the front gardens of the property and Torquay sea front in the distance. The bathroom too was a generous size and had been recently refurbished. It had dual aspect windows and you had a good view of the ‘Torquay Eye’ big wheel which is to be dismantled and moved to Hyde Park in November. The wi-fi signal seems to be confined to the lounge area in the hotel but the signal was just strong enough to reach our room above.
It was easy enough to park the car outside the property upon arrival. First impressions of the hotel are good as the receptionist was friendly and efficient. We were on a half board basis and always opted for the early dinner sittings (1830) which guaranteed a place in the outer ‘conservatory’ part of the dining room with lovely views - and it was still light outside. Get down early for breakfast and you will get one of these tables as well. The inner dining room is well decorated for this period property and has a spectacular ‘barrel’ ceiling. It is no hardship to have a table in this section either. There was plenty of food at breakfast and dinner. It was not quite cordon bleu standard but more than adequate. The serving staff were all very competent and friendly and there was no delay between courses. Chris is the ‘Bar and Residential Manager’ and he is an excellent ambassador for the hotel. Amongst other things, he ensures the smooth running of the restaurant and nothing was too much trouble for him. There is entertainment on at the hotel most evenings although we chose to visit the Babbacombe Theatre to see ‘Stardust’ which was an excellent variety show. Also check whether there is anything on at the ‘Little Theatre’ which is only five minutes walk up the road. This is well worth a visit. We just used public transport for our stay in Torquay. It’s an easy walk downhill to the bus stops beside Debenhams and there are plenty of buses to Brixham, Teignmouth, Exeter etc. The walk back up the hill to the hotel in the evening will keep you fit and work up an appetite. A very enjoyable three days and we recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Pay the extra and get one of the 'Gold Standard' bedrooms on the first floor in the main bui...

We certainly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Pleasant staff and a pleasant room helped make it enjoyable. Would certainly come back. We stayed in a superior room which was adequate and had a nice view. Could just see the sea.The food was good in a very nice dining room. It was about 5 minutes or so, downhill, to the town. A very nice bar and lounge areas helped to create a relaxing atmosphere in well decorated surroundings. The prices for snacks and drinks, I felt, were very reasonable for a good hotel. The hotel offers free parking - some hotels charge £8 per day. We found that there was plenty of space to park. All in all good value for money.
