“A jewel in the Torquay crown”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2013 via mobile

We've stayed at The Imperial and The Grand. We would choose to go back to The Elmdene over the other two every time.

The room was beautifully decorated, clean and well presented. The hosts, Carol & Andy, who were both keen to meet us when we checked in, have really thought of everything from the cafetiere and teapot down to the fluffy bath robes.

But where I think The Elmdene comes in to its own is the comprehensive choice at breakfast. In addition to the full English, there was a menu of choices from smoked salmon and scrambled egg to pancakes and a fruit compote. It seems nothing was too much trouble for them.

Andy & Carol clearly work hard to run 5 star accommodation and we want to thank them for their hospitality and their effort - we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Everything about the Elmdene was excellent. We received a very warm welcome on our arrival and were shown to a lovely big bedroom. We had requested a quiet room and were surprised to see that there was a railway line visible from the room but, throughout the stay, we never noticed any noise at all. Carol and Andy were extremely helpful with recommendations of restaurants to try and places to visit.
The breakfasts were all freshly prepared and most enjoyable. From just outside the hotel it was possible to catch a bus to the centre of Torquay but the walk from the hotel was fairly short if you wanted the exercise.
When we were about to leave, having packed all our luggage in the car, we found that there was a puncture in one of the car tyres. Although they were preparing for their next lot of guests, Carol and Andy took care of my wife and supplied her with drinks whilst I sorted out a new tyre. This was typical of their kindness. We would definitely try to stay here again if we were ever on holiday in this location.

stayed for a week in July, such a wonderful hotel, run by Carol & Andy who make you feel very welcome. The hotel is very clean with lovely comfortable beds and good quality linen. The locally sourced breakfasts are delicious, there is a really good choice, should suit everyone. The hotel is well situated, a short walk from the sea front, there is also a very good bus service. The friendliness of the owners and the extra little touches ( e.g.fresh milk for your tea/coffee, small fridge in the room to keep it in) make this an excellent base . We would recommend it to anyone without hesitation, the nicest we have stayed in.

Room Tip: stayed in room one, large room ,lots of storage, good shower

Stayed over 4 nights towards the end of june! Everything was great, the room, the food and the service was possibly the best I have experienced from any hotel. The Hotel is well presented, easy to find and clean throughout, the rooms are very welcoming with a homely feel and good attention to detail. Andy and Carol were the perfect hosts and nothing was to much bother. The food they have chosen for the breakfast menu is bought from local sources and again is cooked perfectly. would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a stay in Torquay. Will definatley be back.
