“Great value, friendly B&B on The English Riviera”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

I've just got back from a fantastic 2 night stay in this lovely B&B just a 5 minute stroll from the sea front. I stumbled across this place whilst trawling through TripAdvisor for a nice place that my sister and I could take our Mum away for her birthday weekend. The great TripAdvisor ratings for Cary Court caught my eye and I made my reservation. Booking a room for 3 people can normally prove to be quite a hassle, but there were no problems at all in booking a room to accomodate the three of us here.

When we arrived we were greeted by Linda and Paul, the incredibly friendly and fabulously eccentric owners. Paul immediately relieved us of all our bags and took them off to our room, and Linda took us on a tour of the house and the beautiful garden. She also explained exactly how to get to the seafront, gave us some tips on the nice places to eat in the area and made it clear that if there was anything else we might need, all we had to do was ask.

Our room was fairly small, but this is the only thing I can fault them on, and I won't gripe too much about it because unlike any other B&B the three of us have stayed in (we go away every year for my Mums birthday) they did at least cater for three people rather than two. There were 3 bottles of water, 3 sets of cups, 6 pillows, 3 sets of towels etc. This may seem like a small, insignificant detail but it seems to be something every other B&B in the country is incapable of..! So we were very pleased not to have the usual malarky of phoning down to reception to ask for a 3rd set of everything. On top of this, they have a BYO bar and sitting area downstairs, which is very spacious and far more beautiful than sitting in a bedroom! So whilst the room was small, in all honesty we probably didn't need it to be too much bigger given that we spent most of our time taking full advantage of the BYO bar and the beautiful sitting area and garden. In the summer I imagine it's even more fantastic as they have a heated pool in a sun trap in the garden - lush! Sadly, whilst the weather did manage to reach the dizzy UK heights of 9°C this weekend, we hadn't quite reached the outdoor swimming pool season.

Breakfast was delicious; a choice of a hearty Full English, smoked salmon and scrambled egg or a smoked salmon bagel, plus all you can eat cereals, fruits and yoghurts etc. A great start to the day!

Linda and Paul were full of very helpful advice on the area and surrounding restaurants. For dinner Saturday we chose The Old Vienna, which is rated very well on TripAdvisor and I can see why. It's just a 10 minute walk from Cary Court and well worth a visit! Our Friday night option, fish, chips and champagne on the beach, didn't work out quite so well when we discovered that virtually all the fish and chip shops in Torquay close well before dinner time out of season! So we found ourselves eating in Star Thai, which was unfortunately not very nice - definitely one to avoid! So if, like us, you decide to embark upon a crazy plan to eat outside on the beach in less-than-friendly temperatures, make sure you ask Linda and Paul for a back-up plan recommendation!

Cary Court offer great value for money; we paid just £190 for a 2 night stay for 3 people, although I don't know how much that increases in the busy summer season. I would definitely recommend them as a great, affordable place to stay in an excellent location. If ever I find myself back in Torquay they will be my first choice for accommodation.

A perfect few days escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. We stayed in the Caribbean Suite which was really comfortable, spotless, warm, good size, sea view and extremely quiet. The Cary Court hotel is a perfect B&B for those looking for a place to relax. The owners are a goldmine of information which really adds to your visit. The breakfast is really good, freshly cooked, wide choice and sets you up for the day. The hotel is just a short 5-10 min walk from the main streets of Torquay and harbour. Plus it is a short walk from two fantastic restaurants (The Old Vienna and The Orange Tree!!!). Unfortunately we visited in cold April so couldn't enjoy the swimming pool or gardens - we will definitely return in better weather though!

Finally got around to writing some notes on a most pleasurable stay. The first half was purely pleasure and included visiting lots of the local attractions and restaurants. The three day business side of things required a short walk from the hotel so it was very convenient. Paul and Linda were extremely helpful with advice on all aspects of our visit and were very accommodating with the extra help we needed with our business requirements. All in all a very pleasant hotel and facilities with friendly atmosphere.

Stayed two nights over the Easter bank holiday with a friend. Lovely house house with high cealings, a terrace and a sun room. There was a well equipt bar with a 'bring your own' policy and we particularly enjoyed having a gin and tonic each evening in the cozy lounge before heading out for the evening. Our hosts were amazing and made us feel at home right away, they were keen to recommend restaurants in the local area (which were excellent) as well as day time activities.

The full English was magnificent however there was a breakfast menu which catered for all tastes.

Reall enjoyed our stay in Torquay and hope to be back soon.

My girlfriend and I spent two nights at Cary Court while visiting family, and had a wonderful time. Paul and Linda were excellent hosts and the house was very comfortable. After dinner both nights we took advantage of the byo bar and verandah for a few relaxing drinks. I'm glad we found this gem of a place and we'll be back!
