We arrived after a long train journey and were welcomed by Veronica, we arrived past the check-in time but this was not a problem which we very much appreciated. We had purchased a kgb deal for a room for two nights to the value of £162, I have to say we have stayed in many hotels in the UK and further adrift and I can firmly say that I do not believe the room we stayed in was worth anywhere near £80 per night. The room was dated, the fan could be heard from the corridor and would not go off for 30mins so we ended up not using the toilet light, the wall next to the bed was a top to bottom window which let in a draft and noise from the car park which we overlooked, the room was freezing, you could hear everything next door (by everything I mean you could hear people going to the bathroom, not the most romantic of settings) and there was a strange smell that could have been due to the dampness in the room or smoke. We complained about the fan and were told that it would eventually go off and that it was an old house, the house may be old but I honestly doubt that the fan is a period feature. I fully understand that at night it may be difficult to sort out issues but we had been told that the hotel was pretty empty and I would have expected that it would not have been too much hassle to move us to a different room. The one thing I could not fault was the breakfast, it was nicely prepared, a good portion and tasted great. We chose to move to a different hotel the second night however as we wanted to make sure we could get a decent night sleep and enjoy our weekend break.
